Are you looking for a video on how to use the Paris metro system? I have a tutorial on that too! Click here: • OLD VIDEO. PLEASE SEE ...
In this video, I share a detailed step-by-step on using the train system successfully. My goal was to break down each moment at the gare (train station), so you can confidently navigate the process and enjoy the entire experience.
    00:00 Introduction
00:18 Step 1: Enter & look for signs
00:32 How to read an electronic train ticket.
00:42 Step 2: Find the departure display.
01:07 Tip: How to travel with dogs.
01:18 Step 3: Validate any paper tickets.
01:30 Tip: Have cash or coins for the public restroom.
01:42 Tip: Purchase meals before boarding.
02:24 Step 4: Monitor display for platform assignment.
02:39 How to find your carriage and seat.
02:50 How to find where your carriage is at on the platform.
03:41 Departing the station and leaving for Paris.
    𝗦𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 :
IN PARIS - I try to arrive at the train station about 45 - 1 hour in advance to accomplish all my little preferred tasks before departing.
OUTSIDE of PARIS - If driving, I add a thirty-minute buffer for traffic, parking issues, and delays on the weekends. I add an hour or more if I try to get to a major city with rush hour and traffic issues as Rennes does.
TER/RURAL FRANCE - These stations are small and do not offer the same services as a large station. I generally arrive 20 minutes before departure.
𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲:
° RER - These trains take you out of Paris and into the capital's suburban and immediate outlying areas.
°Metro - The suburban commuter trains within the city limits.
𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲:
°SNCF - Société National des Chemins de fer Français. This is France's national train network.
    °TGV - Trains à Grande Vitesse (high-speed trains) connecting France's major cities.
There are also TER trains, which are regional, generally in rural France, and move from one small town or village to another.
For the SNCF and TGV trains, I use the app @trainline to book my tickets.

Thanks for this video. I have a train /subway/public transport phobia especially in a foreign country. I guess it's just a fear of getting lost and not understanding what to do. With Videos like yours, I am beginning to loose my phobia.

Thank you for sharing this comment with our community. I completely understand! I barely knew how to say hello and goodbye in French when I first started visiting France. But I was traveling here alone, and once I felt like I understood the Paris metro, I really wanted to start traveling outside of the city to explore this beautiful country. But I, too, was very afraid of making mistakes, getting lost, and not being able to communicate. Ultimately, the biggest lesson I’ve learned here, is that this country is full of beautiful people that are very kind and caring. They’re always willing to help. And that hand gestures go a long way. 😉😉😅

Yea, loose your phobia. I was frustrated as well, but using TrainPal makes everything on track and never had issues.

Thanks for the details. I like to know how to navigate before I get there. Any tips on how baggage is stowed? We're travelling from Paris to Tours, towards the end of a 2 week trip, so we'll have a couple larger suitcases.

    • @ThisFrenchLife
      @ThisFrenchLife  Před měsícem +1

Baggage isn’t stowed. You load and unload yourself in the car that you’re assigned. It’s why I generally choose first class and a lower carriage seating so I don’t have so many steps or stairs to deal with. Plus elevators or escalators down to the platform. It’s why I always suggest to travel light in France! It’s not easy to voyage with oversized suitcases here.

How is the platform or quai announced? Is it on the departure board, or announced over a speaker? I don't hear well, so I'm concerned about finding the right platform.

    • @ThisFrenchLife
      @ThisFrenchLife  Před 9 měsíci

Great question. You don’t have to listen for it. In my video, I share that the platform is registered on the screens. So, about 15 minutes before the departure, the platform is announced via the departure screens. Just watch the TV’s and then move to the platform you’ve been assigned to. I show that in my video.

Hello! Instead of an app like Trainline? Yes, you can visit the SCNF website for online purchases direct through their site.

I just have question if I need to validate my eticket in station, good to find the answer here. Thanks. How adorable 2 girls with you.

    • @ThisFrenchLife

If it’s an e-ticket, no. Great question, Nicole. I only validated the girl’s paper ticket because they don’t issue e-tickets for dogs.

Try TrainPal next time! No need to validate tickets but applied many coupons to get cheaper! Also recommend train card sales if you travel a lot.
