He was a phenomenal scientist. Once he was condemned guilty and was put to death by guillotine, he told his students to count his winks after the guillotine cuts his head to measure the time of human consciousness after death. :(
I found it hilarious when I first read it. I in fact still do. Imagine being sentenced to death and the first thing you thought is "I wonder how long I could blink after they decapitated me." I mean that's just something you can't make up
