Also, fun fact: Rachael Weiss was in awe of Hannah, a very well respected actor in England. She was kind of hesitant with him. But their meeting scene (with the sarcophagus) was filmed very late. By which time they were close friends, and that little slap wasn’t even in the script, she just casually slapped his face.

Ancient History Lesson: There actually WAS a real life Imhotep (I forget which dynasty though). He was the Leonardo Davinci of the ancient world: he was supposed to have been an architect, a very well respected medical doctor, and a vizier to the Pharaoh Djoser. He was eventually made a god, the only human to have achieved that in the ancient Egyptian pantheon. They keep finding cartouche (its a kind of name plate or badge) referencing him and it is the one tomb that archaeologists have been trying to find for DECADES. It is supposed that if and when they do, it should have a treasure that rivals if not outranks the treasure found in King Tutankhamun's tomb.

So many of his behaviors make a lot of sense for a man who fought in the trenches, and has the consequences of those psychological stresses. Random facts about this film. Brendan Fraser was actually hanged and had to be resuscitated. My favourite though, Brendan Fraser wasn’t almost never even in the film. The first choice was actually Leonardo DiCaprio who absolutely loved the script so much that he asked for production on The Beach to be halted so he could make The Mummy. His request was denied and so Brendan was cast. Hard to imagine anyone but Brendan, he was beyond iconic in this film. That charisma, sarcasm and wit was just something else and perfectly plays off of Rachel’s charisma, wit and ditzy yet smart performance.

It's almost impossible to accurately describe just how iconic this movie is. It's basically Indiana Jones for people who want to have fun, see some romance that actually feels genuine thanks to the chemistry between Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weisz, and get a little bit of a dark undertone (Jonathan at the start saying something to the effect of occasionally wanting to join the dead, Sir Winston Havelock excited to fly a mission for Rick because it means he might die) with some cheese sprinkled on top. It's also been the sexual awakening (be that bisexual, heterosexual, homosexual or any-other-sexual) for a LOT of people due to the absolute smoke shows that are Rick, Evey, Ardeth, and Imhotep.
There's a reason that "I'd Rather Be Watching The 1999 Cinematic Masterpiece 'The Mummy' Starring Brendan Fraser And Rachel Weisz" became such an iconic phrase. There's also a reason it's such a beloved movie. It truly is one of the greats.

It's really weird that an Egyptian curse would be able to perform the 10 Plagues of Egypt, which were performed by the HEBREW God, with the egyptians as their target. Though... If I remember the story correctly, the Pharaoh's sorcerers did say that they could replicate some of the plagues, I think.

Cartouche - a round ended oblong shaped line around heiroglyphic writing which denotes that it's a Royal name.
Cartouche is the French for cartridge. The word was used by Napoleon's soldiers as it resembled the shape of bullets from that period.

Brendan Frazier actually passed out in the hanging scene.
“ When the director went in for the last take, Fraser stood on his toes, and the crew member holding the rope above him pulled it a little higher.
“I was stuck on my toes - I had nowhere to go but down,” The Whale actor told the host. “And so he was pulling up, and I was going down, and the next thing I knew, my elbow was in my ear, the world was sideways, there was gravel in my teeth, and everyone was really quiet,” he recalled.
When the stunt coordinator woke him, he cheerfully told him, “Congratulations, you’re in the club - the same thing happened to Mel Gibson on Braveheart.” The actor joked that he could only respond, “Thanks, I think?! I wanna go home!”

"Don't get so close. I feel like dude's breath smells so bad."
I took a semester of acting class in college. One of the things they tell you is you can't chew gum, but always keep breath spray on you. Always.
"Why would you have hot tea... in the desert?"
I worked as a waiter for 7 years and I've never served cold tea to anyone from the UK. Even in the summer. Ironically, Americans also LOVE their tea. But they like it cold and sweet.
"Probably could have got them for free. All we had to do was give them your sister."
Technically, that's not free... arguable depending on the sister, though.
I was a VFX artist when this came out (did not work on this movie). The fx might look a bit janky now, but it was groundbreaking at the time. And the movie itself was also something very new to the viewer.
Great fun. Thanks for the video.

This movie epitomizes what movies SHOULD be. Simply, fun. It doesn’t make sense all the time, never takes itself too seriously, and is just here to give the viewers a lot of what they came to the movies for, fun.

The Mummy purposefully made fun of itself and B movies. Great cast along with a great script and a passionate director makes this a future classic. Still holds up. And is one of my "go-to" movies in my DVD collection. (Yes. DVD. So I can watch when I want for FREE- after I paid $3 at Goodwill.)
