@@keithsutherland5198 The DUP occupy someone else's country? Interesting thought pattern considering the party was only formed in 1971. Hardly generations, even if you accept 'occupying' line. Taking it a step further while going back even further, they certainly were not around in 1541 when England fully conquered Ireland. There were also a further 8 times Ireland was invaded and conquered - the Vikings, the Normans (twice), Scotland, the Tudors, Oliver Cromwell, Spain and the Dutch. The DUP, as much as I don't like them, never invaded or occupied. And, if you're interested in human rights, please outline which ones and how they were denied? Were the previous (and subsequent) terrorists interested in human rights? Was the joint Irish-American army that attempted to invade Canada in 1866 interested in human rights? Was an army or state that attempted to, or succeeded in, invading another country interested in human rights? Do your principles involved human rights across the board, or just human rights for 'your' side? Are human rights all encompassing, or partisan?

I am not a DUP voter, and I certainly have no time for this completely corrupt politician, but the protocol certainly threatens the Union and must be scrapped at all costs. Having threatened the Union it blows apart the GFA, which stated that there could be no change to the constitutional status of Northern Ireland without the express consent of the majority of the people of Northern Ireland. The DUP are therefore right to collapse the institutions if needbe, and Sinn Féin have no right to complain having threatened to collapse them over the minor issue of the Irish Language Act.

You try to paint a picture of british being the bad guys and Ireland as being saintly, which is borderline delusional. @@raymondhaskin9449 Ulster people voted for Home Rule in 1918 so the government divided Ulster to carve out a six county entity that had a Unionist majority .. there were many unionists elsewhere in Ireland but not enough to retain the union.
Putin is behaving today just as Lloyd George and Churchill did in Ireland in the 1920s. Churchill created a militia called the black and tans who were sent in to murder, burn and rape the nationalist people. The figures are stacking against the unionist cause these days but hopefully horrible history won't be repeated as Ireland begins a slow reunification .. which I think is what is emerging
