    I am so glad everything came together and I was able to bring the CBF1000 to Wales. What about you? Would you tackle this job yourself after seeing it done? Would you get a Healtech Thunderbox?
    Let me know! If you have any questions please leave them below, preferably as a separate comment as they're easier to find later :)

    Hi and thanks for sharing your expérience. I’ve also experienced a stator failure two times in 65.000km with my cbf Mk1(2006).
    First time at 42.000km, I got it rewound by a professional and it worked fine for 23.000km. Recently It burned up again (65.000km) so I fitted an electrosport stator. But I’m not really satisfied with it ! Voltage at low rpm is really bad (11.5V) measured at the the three phases of the coil coming from the stator. Honda original used to deliver 19V at each phase at idle. I’ve also fitted a Chinese one which was more performant with 14.5V on the three phases. I wrote electrosport for that issue and they explained me that “ A stator which is wound to be powerful at idle will not be as efficient at cruising speed. Our stator is wound to be most efficient at a higher RPM, so while it lacks at lower RPM once you raise RPM it will exceed OEM.” the diameter of their stator is a little bit smaller (112 vs 115). It is supposed to prevent alternator from over heating as I’m not very convinced by that and believe that 11.5V will jot charge the battery when stuck in city traffic. I don’t know if I have to trust this brand or to go looking for an original stator

      @TheGorillaBiker  Před 2 lety +1

      42000km is almost exactly where my first one has failed too! I looked in to rewinding, but time and cost in Ireland meant that just buying the easiest available new one was easiest!
      To be honest I took the first available stator which happened to be the electrosport stator, that explanation also makes sense to me to be honest, I'd actually be happier with it producing less heat at idle as I don't spend much time in traffic, and filter through it when I can. I suppose it makes sense to pick a stator for your needs.
      But I'd also be concerned with will it keep the battery charged.

    Little tip for the battery connections. A little piece of doubled over cable tie tucked in under the nut makes it so much easier. It lifts the nut enough to get a catch on it 👍

    Pain in the hoop when this happens to try figure out why it actually failed, I think it’s actually a Honda common fault across the board. Not sure on the broken fingers but it’ll give you a good nip on the finger tips for sure 😂😂😂

    I had the same thing happening to me 2 nights ago.

    Hi GB, thanks for part 2. I have a couple of questions. Did you need to drain the engine oil to do this job? Also would you be able to give a costing for the replacement stator? Useful video as ever. Cheers :)

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  Před 2 lety +1

      No problemo :) Technically I should have to make sure it's clean, but my stator wasn't too burnt so I said I'd let me filter do its job.
      But as a rule no you don't have to, you'll spill a tiny amount opening the cover but just top up afterwards and you'll be grand.
      Yes, this one was 230 euro + the battery was about 300 or so. I could have ordered a cheaper one but I just took the first available.

I would have totally knocked off the plastic container of bits sitting on the CBF which would have been promptly followed by hours lost looking for shit that rolled under some other motorbike in the garage. That is just how I roll....😂 You did it wrong, just in case you were wondering....LOL...great job looking forward to vids of Whales. I love my USB chargers when I'm on the road a must now days. Clips look awesome, my fav was that skinny road in the forest. That looked awesome! 14.5 is just fine a volt meter on the bike is cool but yeah, so you know your fucked great, your still fucked. It might never even need to be done on the XJR you'd never know :) It's a grand job to do to be fair :) There's honestly nothing more in depth to look at, it connects direct to the battery and you plug stuff in to it, it handles the rest! Thanks!

      It depends, mileage seems to be a factor but also heat is what kills them, so city riding will probably kill them a lot faster than open road riding.
