  • My friends--- I can finally say it: The Juno-X is HERE.
    What an honour to be a part of the launch campaign with my friends at Roland. I am a huge advocate for the original Jupiter-X and all of its amazing capabilities, and the new Juno-X does EVERYTHING the Jupiter does in a more accessible and more inexpensive package--- it even has stereo speakers under the hood!
    Here is my day 1 review of this awesome synthesizer.
    Chapters:
    0:00 - The NEW Juno-X
    1:17 - Creating sounds from scratch with the Juno-X model
    6:26 - Detuning oscillators
    7:32 - Juno Chorus I, II, & III
    10:29 - Filter modes: Roland, Moog, Sequential
    12:12 - Changing parts, adding in part 2: Juno-106 model
    16:10 - Stacking sounds
    16:53 - Adding in part 3: RD Piano model
    17:49 - 3 layer super stack!!!
    19:30 - Adding in a rhythm/arpeggio
    21:11 - Exploring some scenes
    27:07 - Feature rundown
    29:09 - Comparison with Jupiter-X

      I have grown to *love* my Jupiter-X over the last two years........ almost always when im in the studio just absent mindedly enjoying synths its the Jupiter-X for its great keyboard and features (honestly its actually the speakers that make it so so easy to enjoy without setting up the whole studio) so when I got the JunoX and it was basically a Jupiter-X in Juno clothing with different stock models I was really excited.

    I really enjoyed this video.
    I always laugh when people are hard on this keyboard because it’s not analogue (with something along the lines of big fat low end) and then those same people will choke the song with compression and reverb and delays layer upon layer and then kill the low end on the eq to fit it into their song - so the analogue greatness goes out the window.
    You stacked four sounds and it sounded absolutely huge! If making a true analogue poly was the be all and end all the korg prologue would be the best selling keyboard year upon year

    Hi, I have a question:
    When choosing a Model/ Engine, besides Juno-x, Juno-106, XV5080, etc. you can choose PR-A/ PR-B ... PR-X, and Common. What are those and what is the difference? Also, the waveforms are divided into ID-A, ID-B, etc. Is there any particular reason for that? I can not see any logic behind those groups and that gives me sleepless nights...😝

    ALSO, HOW CAN I ADD A REVERB OR DELAY TO ONLY ONE PART/INSTRUMENT ? IT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE - CAN I CHANGE THE TONE WITH A TREMOLLO, OR OTHER EFFECTS ? I AM TRYING TO MAKE A LO FI PIANO IN JUNO X - IT COULD BE A GOOD VIDEO IDEA IF YOU COULD DO IT :) THE DRUMS ALSO - SNARE COULD USE SOME REVERB...MAYBE IN THE NEXT UPDATE ROLAND WILL DO SOMETHING USEFUL

    Hi, could you make a video about Vocoder of Juno X ? Any difference with jupiter x’s vocoder? Because in Juno-X they announce vocoder like a model expansion. So my expactation is increased. Last question jupiter x/xm doesnt support condenser mic if remember correctly. You told in this video , juno-x gives Phantom power, can i use Shure sm-35 xlr condenser headset mic with Juno-X ??? Thank you great video as well.

    HI @mr tuna music. Thanks for this demo. It really helps solidify my pre-order. 😀
    I'm still just getting my ducks in a. row. I'm a performing (and original) musician, and this will be replacing my Nord Stage 3. So what I'm curious to better understand are a few things (if you want my questions your upcoming demos, as you mentioned.)
    I haven't owned a Roland Synth since my ORIGINAL Juno 106...bought summer of '84, was stolen out of my car. I still hurt to this day ha.
    My question (or questions):
    Does the Roland cloud, or the zencore library allow me to source very traditional sounds and load them into the Juno X? The reason is some of my songs contain say an old Vox organ sound or an old wurli, , a glockenspiel, brass section, sounds that I developed on my current (and quite possibly soon to be sold) Nord. The initial and pressing issue for me will be re-imagining/translating/converting my current sounds onto the new synth, and hopefully getting as close to many of them as possible.
    Given that I don't know much about this environment (zencore/roland cloud)...do you foresee me struggling to translate my current sounds within the Juno? Or will it be pretty (optimistically) seamless? I don't mind taking the time to work and design the sound. Just wanting to know if there are base tones that I can start with that help me get there. I did a quick review of the Juno X's sound list, and well, it's just words at this point but I feel like I have a good shot. just wondering how it's done (for example, someone below mentioned importing Jupiter sounds into the Juno). So that sort of thing; do libraries exist that might have more classic tones?
    I look at this as an evolution, so I understand this thing will be undoubtedly different than the Nord. I just hope I don't lose entirely the sounds I have and can emulate and get at least most of the way there sonically. Thanks for your help!

    • @MRTUNA
      @MRTUNA  Před 2 lety +1

      The roland cloud has all the original factory presets from the original synths in their legendary series, so you should have lots to choose from there!
      the juno has a very very straightforward interface so any sounds you have to tweak or recreate on your own should be very easy too

    • @MRTUNA
      @MRTUNA  Před 2 lety +7

      what it offers beyond the system-8 is capability--- the system-8 is a nuanced accurate reproduction of the juno-106 to a circuit-level.... the Juno-X doesnt take it to such an extreme but has a POWERFUL sound with 4 different layers and considerably more polyphony... you can stack and layer and add drums... it's got bluetooth for midi and audio.... its got a MUCH better vocoder than the system-8. The system-8 has some really cool synth features like FM and sideband filters and such
      I'm still a big fan of the system-8 and have no plans to sell mine, but the Juno-X is a lot more 'playable' with its 61 keys, aftertouch and quality build

One thing I think of is that it is probably easier to handle wirh fewer faders and knobs than the Jupiter X? I’m curious how it compares with the system 8 sound wise and whether the Apregiator is useful or if the I arpeggiator detracts. I was really turned off by the Jupiter X personally. It seems like they’ve learned some lessons there interface wise, but fundamentally it’s another zen core machine. It sure looks beautiful though and I hope you enjoy it.

      so far so good--- the iArp is definitely a novel features, but they have some classic arpeggiator options in there that sound really good. The only thing I havent figured out yet is how to disable it on certain parts like I can on the JPX.
      System-8 might sound more "true" to the originals (even then I did a comparison that ill share in a day or so and I was blown away by how close the JunoX was to my original 106) but honestly this synth just sounds GOOD. I dont really care if it sounds exactly like a Jupiter or a Juno.... I just want to enjoy the sound and the experience and this nails it.

    Hi Mr Tuna and thanks so much for this brilliant demo !

    Should I consider selling my vintage and trusty Supersaw JP-8080, my Korg Krome (great master KB/workstation), my Mininova (so cute in analog emulation) to make some money and afford the buying of this beast ? Thanks for you your reply in advance

    • @MRTUNA
      @MRTUNA  Před 2 lety +2

      The Juno-X covers those sound bases for sure---- but what it doesnt do fantastically is act as a master controller for other keyboards. In that sense it can really only control 4 and a half synths via midi at any given point, where my Jupiter-80 is an *awesome* awesome master controller and spilts and layers and keeps all 16 channels at my fingers. If you can keep a great master controller around for your other gear that might be best!

    • @Jason75913
      @Jason75913 Před 2 lety

      If you want to upgrade from the Mininova, maybe a Virus. Upgrade from the JP8080? Again, Virus, lol. Some EDM producers would tell you to _never ever_ sell the JP8080.
      Upgrade from the Krome as a master keyboard? Maybe the Kronos 2 V3, but I would recommend keeping the Krome instead, it is lighter weight and a little simpler to use, plus its sound engine is plenty good.
      If you are super tempted by the Juno-X, get the Fantom-0 instead, much more capable Zen-Core keyboard than the Juno-X and it is cheaper. But if you just want Zen-Core sounds, consider the Zenology plugin instead or MC-707.

The Juno-X has the 4 'parts' that can each be a different tone / model, etc. and many of the factory scenes have 2 or more of these layered. Makes for a bigger, more interesting sound, but goes through polyphony fast also."
      He also noted that most don't complain about cribbed voices unless they have a piano sound that is layered and using the sustain pedal a lot.

      System-8 is a sound designer's dream. its 1/1 controls all the way around with 0 menu diving. its nuanced and detailed in a way that the Juno-X is not........ i loooooove my system-8, but the Juno-X is a very different beast.... it sounds GREAT. it might not sound as dead-close-to-the-originals as the System-8 does (although my upcoming comparison with the real Juno-106 will prove that pretty moot), but it has a really *big* sound with much more polyphony and huge 4 synth stacks.
      To my ears, it sounds just as 'good' as the System-8, but its got a much more playable keyboard with 61 keys and aftertouch, and a much better build quality.
