    This song is Rod's story. This happened to him when he was in his late teens, so he wrote this incredible song about it not that long after that "incident" (in the year I was born, actually: '71).
    So he was very much a young old goat before he finally grew to become the champion king of the old goats that he is now. What a legend. And what a voice.

      Imagine if a female singer did this same kind of song, but about her as a school girl being seduced by a middle aged guy. People would be wanting to know who the guy was and demanding he be put in prison.

    • @GrainneDhu
      @GrainneDhu Před rokem

      @@Mr.Ekshin listen to the lyrics or read them so you can block out the pretty, upbeat music. The lyrics are all about a heartsick, very confused 17 year old teenaged boy who is feeling terrible pain combined with terrible love. That boy knows it can't last, he knows the relationship isn't a healthy one (stealing his soul doesn't sound healthy to me, anyway) but he can't yet bring himself to leave Maggie May, either.
      People should be demanding Maggie be put into prison--like all those middle school and high school woman teachers who are caught having sex with their male students. They do go to prison and for very good reason.
      Trivia: Rod Stewart has said that the kernel idea of this song was about his first sexual experience at a jazz festival when he was 17. A woman in her 30s took him back to her tent, had sex with him and then unceremoniously threw him out afterwards. Rod Stewart took that experience and the mix of emotions he felt, wrapped it into a story in his inimitable way and the song "Maggie May" was the result. He's made it clear that the experience at the time was painful for him, that he felt very hurt and very confused afterwards.

    Love this song, it is a bit biographical. A bit of play with words - "steal my Daddy's cue and make a living out of playing pool" - "cue" as in pool cue and as a "cue" to follow in his Daddy's footsteps. And the rock and roll band that needed a helping hand was "Faces", the band he joined following Steve Marriott's departure from the original "Small Faces". when this was first recorded and performed. Ron Woods, Kenny Jones, Ronnie Lane, and Ian McLagen. So much talent of now-legendary musicians and musical history.

    Really enjoy your reactions , but as usual some of the classic versions of this song are those where it is performed live . Please watch the live version of this number when Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stones plays the guitar solos. They were both playing together when they were younger and part of a group called the Small Faces. Fast forward 20 to 30 years now both are famous and rightly admired by their peers , the combination produces the best version of this song you will ever hear.

    Thanks for a great channel! Wish you addressed what differentiates opera from other music. Have given opera singers many chances, but find them hard for ME to like. I have no problem at all with the fact that you take high notes and have very nice voices, on the contrary! But why do you sing so that it is very difficult to hear the lyrics you sing? Is there no middle ground, high pitches but that you really hear the lyrics you sing? Now don't misunderstand this as me hating opera, I just have a hard time understanding what you guys are singing about. Keep up the good work!

    My dad always told me that this song was still being played in the 80s. He was a line cook in the 80s in Chicago. Him and the boys would always go out after their shift and spend most their pay at the bars trying to pick up chicks, most of them barely even speaking English hahaha
    Dad as he tells me, always won.

    7:50 ......Shaddap!! You just showed your hand, little one. Those three notes were way too on point for a dilettante.
    Hey, how about this for a follow-up......Linda Eder......live performance of "Gold"......in a pants suit, no less.
    Yeah, I know, given your young age......who is this person??
    Well, she made her bones on Broadway. At least, it's worth a listen.
