1 Man Moves Shed with Car. Basic Tools.

- I bought nothing for this job. All were scraps. If you don't have many basic tools and materials, you might consider getting a flatbed towtruck to operate on a per-hour basis for you and have them do the job. If it's over 8.5' wide, you'll have to either get a permit, or wing it like a man at night.
Tools suggested: lowboy floor jack, 4x 4" pvc pipes (schedule 40 or thicker), some blocks which are thicker than the floor jack, LOTS of extra wood or other objects with which to raise the shed into the air, some wedge shaped objects to stop the pipes from moving, and a big ass pry bar. You can often substitute a nice 2x8 for the prybar. If your shed is on dirt, you can dig a hole and put the floor jack in it to get the thing off the ground.
Good luck folks!
some less typical tools:
Marshalltown giant pry bar, only 30 bucks right now! insane!: amzn.to/2KpN5WE
decent quality come-along, 12' rope, 2 ton, $40: amzn.to/2GYmvlg
Holy shit. Now that's seriously impressive. Amazing what one man can do with the right ingenuity. Well done dude!
+Robert R. “YellowJKT” Woolridge :)
I'm moving my shed 20 feet and I'm
All stressed about it.
All I can say after I watched the video was , WOW!.
The determination displayed in your video was truly inspiring .
Great job bro.
Tony Marks me too ,I also wants to move my shed back a few Inches in my yard,I,m so not complete w/ it sitting in the spot it is.but seeing this guy w/so much determination,&will power &material use what it takes .wow!! motivates me too know I can do it,way too go dude,I admire u.for putting out this video.&moving your shed.
Same here! LMFAO! How we over think things, eh?
A man's gotta move his shed. a man gets it done.
Pivoting shed was a great part. And good use of jack supports to stabilize trailer. As for the door. I usually do that sort of thing when I am getting tired. Great video!
Very impressive sir. My dad always said "If I had a stick long enough i could move the world." Nice job backing up the trailer also. No help. You gotta have one friend you could've called. Just trying to make us look bad. 😉
hehe.
regarding the backing up of the trailer, that Honda CRX is the BEST towing vehicle EVER for small areas. with the glass panel at the rear you can see EXACTLY where that trailer is going, and you can see stuff that's very low to the ground.
Due to california smog regulations making the vehicle very expensive, I'm no longer driving that CRX. Lemme tell ya that double wishbone suspension is AWESOME for both normal driving AND towing. the truck has a rear differential and it feels like it's not meant to tow. it has about half the power, to boot.
I'm not sure what the previous four owners did to that CRX, but it was fast as HELL. That thing could haul like nobody's business if you ignore the braking and maximum tongue weight problems.
When the tesla pickup is produced and has the motor in the rear, truck drivers are gonna shit at how well it feels planted in off road situations.
Wow! I'm impressed at the work and you filmed it yourself too! Bravo!
I was about to buy a shed from an auction this week and have to figure out some crazy way to move it much like you.. but then I said "nah" and took a nap.. Thanks for confirming I made the sane choice !! Lol Awesome vid felt like a montage from an eighties B movie !! You rock !
hehehe yeah. transporting sheds with basic tools is a major PITA.
I recently got a free hand forklift off of craigslist that's rated for 650 lbs. It worked for a lighter weight (but actually larger) shed, but might not have worked for this one. With the hand forklift and a pallet jack, the process is much easier. Final positioning of the other shed was done with a sledge and this prybar.
crx with a cracked windshield, ancient double axle trailer with original wheels from the 1960's, one man and a pile of junk; moves shed with no injuries or accidents. anything is possible if you put your mind to it. awesome video
almost forgot to highlight the part where you back the trailer between the fence with inches to spare
al machado awe thank you so much!
+al machado No longer can you say "original wheels". I just scored a set of alloys [with tires] off of the craigslist Free section! gonna install them right now.
I am in awe, that's all I can say. I had searched many times for seeing how to use PVC pipe to roll. Maybe you could add to your tags, I am so happy I found this! Great job, you are incredible.
+Skid Loader Beginner with JCB 260W SSL awe shucks thanks for the compliment! I can't handle it when people are that nice to me. I run away.
I'm happy it helped!
and thank you for the suggestion. I'll take are of that right now
8-) We ended up putting metal pipes under the playhouse (6 x 16' I think), with a few ropes/chains around it, I crunched it a few places with my skiddy but it's closer to its destination. 8-)
Awesome, I was wondering how you were going to get it up the ramp. Thanks for uploading this video.
Nice work! You probably moved it faster by yourself than with three friends trying to help. You can make faster better decisions alone. I'm getting ready to move one over a soft dirt area in a tight space. thanks
That is determination! Good job
Holy $hit! Props for towing 3-4X what that CRX is rated for & NOT dying or killing anyone else.
over 20K towing miles with that CRX :)
no accidents, but a few close calls before getting trailer brakes.
1st of all you rock! 2nd your music choice is off the hook! 3rd the captions are hilarious 😂 you earned yourself a nice cold one 🍻
That's one sweet wheel barrow.
Lance Sheppard {Little River Lawn Care} , lmfao.... I seen that and was like holy $h!t at the tires on that damn wheel barrow....
yeah but it's not very useful. lol. for sale for 50 bucks on craigslist. no hits :)
Clever. Thanks for the video. You rock.
Great job man 👍
It was a lot of work by yourself but you did it man 👌
Sporting that VTECH motor I presume? Perhaps a B20? 😁
Amazing ingenuity. Lol! But really gotta know what you're doing.
+1 for towing with a Honda CRX
This has been really helpful,. My concern with doing something like this with a 2x2 framed shed, is that it wouldn't be sturdy enough, but it looks like your shed is 2x2.
2x4 with studs on 16" or less, and 3/4" plywood exterior
2x2 would also be fine, but it largely depends on whether the bottom plate is sturdy enough to take the loads. This assumes that there is adequate fastening of the exterior sheathing to the studs.
Of course, if you have a gun safe mounted on top of the 2x2 shed, you'll probably run into problems
wonderful! Genius.
awhaw shucks thanks :)
This guy built the pyramids in a former life
wheel barrow is cool
that poor CRX :S
What's really impressive is that you pulled all that load with a Honda Civic. Have any transmission problems after that?
nah. it had an aftermarket clutch and a manual transmission. IF someone isn't a tarrd, they can avoid damaging the transmission.
Eventually (lots of towing miles on this thing), there became an oil leak at the cylinder head gasket. That made it unable to pass california smog. 330K miles on that thing until smog failure. I'd towed around 20K miles with it. had the car for 11 years. I was owner #5.
Then I got a truck. ...Trucks are really convenient :)
hey he ran one stop sign😁😄😄
it's california!
We have to save gas and the environment, so stopping fully is discouraged ;)
I actually ran one of the stop signs in the video pretty quickly another time. I checked to make sure that the oncoming traffic wouldn't be too alarmed. What I didn't check for was whether one of the vehicles was the Sheriff. Woops! 'got pulled over about a mile later.
I told the Sheriff (truthfully, and making fun of his driving) "the way you were driving back there (after he saw me and started hauling ass), I thought you were a tweaker!". He said, not in a good mood, "reEEAlly?". Then it occurred to me. That was a bad decision...
cool
hi,,,,,,i have a 6x10 cargo trail gvwr 2990. not sure of actual trailer weight. the trailer stands aprox.86 " high. my garage door opening is only 84" . due to hoa rules where i live i have to keep it in my garage. i was able to get it in just barely by flattening the wheels. but this s not to practical to use the trailer often.i have decided to leave it on just bare rims to solve my clearance problem to pul it in and out of the garage. and install the rimed tires once in the driveway.what i would like to know is can i raise the trailer safely leaving the hitch connected to my truck and jacking the trailer up from the center of the rear with a 3 ton floor jack to install both tires with out having to jack it up twice once from either side? will the floor jack lift the weight enough to get the tires on ? will this procedure be safe to do? keep in mind i will chock the truck tires and use jack stands under the rear when enough height is reached to take off the bare rims and install the tires.
+bob woerner the trailer will want to tip to one side as it's lifted in the air.
If you put blocks or jack stands in front of the trailer under each of the two side rails, then I think you could probably jack from the center rear if the trailer was built strong enough.
that's my 2 cents anyway
funny you should suggest that,,,,,was just thinking the same thing as i'm watching these videos ....thanks for the reply.
DUDE! Where did you get that wheelbarrow?
Cameron Smith =D Got tired of flats. didn't want to spend 40 bucks on a flimsy no-flat tire. found the axle in the backyard. I think it came from a riding lawnmower.
...I really should just remove the transmission and brakes... makes it so heavy!
+Justin Crediblename What! So you built the wheel barrow yourself!?!?! Wait! but why am I surprised after watch this whole vid. lol, you can do anything!😅
SuperMomWife 51
well I pieced it together, yeah :)
shucks you make me bashful
Looks great.
I need to move my barn. Can you please come over?
hehe :)
I mean, you could do a video and everything! I loved this video and shared it with my friends! You are incredible!
You should be Justin Incrediblename
aw shucks I'm flattered that you'd be so enthusiastic about the effort
:)
unfortunately I'm pretty busy with other projects right now. tomorrow
I'll install a 12' long single swing steel and aluminum gate that I
welded together, and not too long after that I should be folding flat
stainless into standing seam roofing so that I'll no longer live in a
house with a moldy leaky roof that I'll have to be concerned about.
What part of the world are you located in?
I have moved two sections of a manufactured home with hand tools and bolted it together. I purchased three 10+ ton movers for the process which could be of use in moving your barn if you're gonna take on the project and located near sacramento. 35+ ton capacity between them.
I was just looking at those wheeled movers after watching this video! I had the barn built to be moved, and had it moved before--from one pasture to another (it was 12x24' then). My guy pals used two humongous forklifts (one driving forward and one backward). But now the barn is 36x36, built to be taken apart and moved, but this time it has to go farther, and I don't think the forklifts are gonna work, and I don't have the $$$$ to hire it done "right." I'm a gal who likes a bit of ingenuity anyway! Thanks for showing us how you did this. Looking forward to more videos! Oh, and I'm in Utah!!
Shoot I wish my husband would move my garage
i move mine with rope and a 4x4 truck.
Nice job .... but your back not appreciate all that effort in 20 years
you're absolutely right
guile theme?
Carrigan Berard it goes with everything
Should have just sonic kicked the shed into place, then Guile-lock it down (for original SFII, not CE).
were those pvc pipes you were rolling the shed on? What size were they?
schedule 40, 4".
Its previous service life was outdoors, and even after disassembling, it remained outdoors. It was used to move a shed more than twice as heavy as this; it's very capable stuff.
Now I feel useless. Triple
hehehe
