@@7ony2 what should u watch after the film?
"Over 270 episodes"
Me: "laughs in one piece"
Sure, Lupin is not the longest running show ever, but not everyone is keen on starting something that has so many episodes out already
@@AnimeTopScholar I wouldn't say not the longest running show, it's a pretty old franchise dating back to the late 60's early 70's
@@Coolguy64 Well yes, but I'm talking about total episodes. It's been around for a while, but it's not as long as something that airs weekly
Chuckes (and then screams) in Dragon Ball.
Lupin series
Part I : 23
Part II: 155
Part III: 50
Part IV: 26
Part 5: 24
Total: 278
What?
No love for Part 2? It’s hilarious!
I’ve also enjoyed Part 4, Cagliostro and Mamo.
No I do love me some Part 2 as well. It just didn't make sense for me to include it considering the point of the video, so I instead opted to put Part 1 (the first), Castle of Cagliostro (the most popular), The Woman Called Fujiko Mine (my favorite), and Part 5 (the most recent). That way I felt like I got to mention a lot of different types of Lupin
There's The Mystery of Mamo and then there's the rest of the series.
@@ricardocantoral7672 Mamo was so weird, and yet I still enjoyed it
@@AnimeTopScholar Glad to hear it ! On the surface, Mamo is just a weird Bondian escapade but there is a great deal of substance below. The film is a cold war satire that rivals, in my opinion, the genius of Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove.
@@ricardocantoral7672 Interesting. I can't say I got quite as much out of it, but I do see your point
I started with part 2 when it used to play on Adult Swim at like 4am
Damn
I got into it from Adult Swim's block, first seeing a teaser of Lupin The III : Red Jacket Series; back in the early 2000s. One of the funniest English dubs in the Anime Industry .
If you're willing to start with Part V, I would recommend starting with Part IV since it takes place in the modern world with modern technology as well and has similar art style and animation, with similar tone and pacing with the story. Although, Part V is still a much, much darker story where the gang has hit hard times in a world that is rapidly changing due to technology and the internet. There's a lot going on in Part V, so I feel that Part IV serves as a good precursor to provide context to the dynamic of the gang before they seemed so broken up in V. (IV - blue jacket with red tie, V - blue jacket with pink tie).
Part 1 is so good. I think it really sets the stage well. I highly recommend it.
It really is
This was actually pretty informative! I kinda fell down a short rabbit hole related to Lupin III stuff while researching something vaguely related, and I wasn't aware there were so many different adaptations. I might actually give Lupin III a watch now!
There's a lot of Lupin. Many different interpretations of the characters and just a lot to get sucked into. Before I started watching it I never thought I would watch everything Lupin, but now here we are. I have watched almost everything and what I haven't watched I plan to watch in the near future
I'm a Big fan of Lupin the Third...My favourite is Goemon Ishikawa ^^
Nice. Goemon is a nice character. For me it's between Fujiko and Jigen
That's nice I like jigen too
My dad, brother, and I, watched the whole Dragon Ball series. Like all of the episodes. I hope we can all watch this together. If not, I'll watch it by myself.
Im just working on all five parts at once on crunchyroll
Wait do they have all five parts on crunchyroll? I was only ever able to find part three
@@dr.jotarorobotnick813 they did last time i checked (that was a while ago, i havent any anime in a hot minute)
I'm really shocked that you didn't refer to Lupin the 3rd Episode 0 (First Contact). Since it is TECHNICALLY, an origin story of how they all met and it contributed it the 30th anniversary of Lupin the Third. Regardless of the ending, I thought First Contact is also a good intro to the series as well as an incredibly good movie for both non-Lupin the Third fans and devoted fans at best.
I haven't made my way through all of Lupin yet, and I haven't seen First Contact yet.
Anime Top Scholar Go watch it. It’s pretty good.
@@bartvanoosterhout1641 I'm getting there. Currently working my way through all of the specials and what not.
Among the specials, I would avoid Lupin Red vs Green unless you really like the Lupin Franchise as it does MULTIPLE references to previous movies, specials, and even the actors. But the plot is absolutely nuts.
@@russtezew.7824 I'm planning on watching it all. Good or bad, it will be watched.
"Yes yes guess who's on third, Lupe steal like Lupin the 3rd" lol that's how I found out about this series from an artist named "Lupe Fiasco"
lol. Nice
I couldn't get into it bc I only saw one ep when I was a kid, but it was on my watchlist. Now that new movie is coming out I need to watch this
My favorite special was Angel Tactics. As for the series, I loved the older 70's versions just as much as the newer ones. I would say that A Woman Called Fujiko Mine didn't hold my attention as well as they main series but it was still good.
That's fair. The Woman Called Fujiko Mine is a little different from the rest of Lupin. I like that grittier take on the series.
Angel Tactics? How come? That's one of the weaker specials, even if some fights scenes were good and that one plot twist probably the most unexpected one in the series.
Watched Castle of Cagliostro on Netflix a while back and wanted to get into this series... then i googled in and decided i would get back to it in a few months so thanks for the help
Lmao just look at the trailer for the new CGI movie
I did and I'm kinda looking forward to watching it
@@AnimeTopScholar same, I don't even know what the show is, but the trailer came up in my recommendations so now I'm addicted.
TuckeredOut 28 yeah I saw it in my recommended. I don’t even really watch anime though. The only anime I’ve seen is MHA and the ghibli movies “are those even anime?”
Great movie. Blu ray is coming out soon of you haven't seen it.
I got into it from part 2 because it used to air on Adult Swim way back in the day. I hadn’t watched much since, but I got back into recently after watching the newest movie Lupin the 3rd The First. While the movie had some 3rd act problems it reminded me how fun the series could be.
dude when they refrenced cagliostro in part 5 i flipped my shit
ikr
I know. So cool.
I started with the part 2 episodes that are here on CZcams and laughed my ass off at them. I then watched the Nostradamus movie before starting an endless binge of the specials, movies and shows.
Cool. I started with Part 1 in a watch along with some friends and went from there
Part 5 is the one of the few that I would isn't a good entry point, the way it contrasts with other Lupin stuff is very much it's core appeal. For people who need something modern yet typical I would say start with Part IV, that should lead into Part V pretty well.
Woman Called Fujiko Mine is the best entry point if your into Lupin because it's connection to classic French Pulp fiction, or because the show Femme Fatale is the main row for you personally.
But for people who don't mind starting with something old I'd say the Michelle Ruff Dub of Mystery of Mamo or either for Castle of Cagliostro are equally good, but almost any of the TV Specials or Adult Swim dubbed episodes of Red Jacket are pretty good too. It's a franchise where continuity really doesn't matter.
Yeah that's basically the point. I disagree that Part 5 is not a good entry point, but I see your points. There are a lot of callbacks to the older Lupin and is very much made for people who are already fans of Lupin, but I also think there's enough in it by itself that it doesn't matter too much that you don't know all the callbacks
@@AnimeTopScholar My main point is, at least direct people to part IV, it's only 26 episodes and it seems some of it will play into Part V going forward. It was designer to be this decades Standard Lupin show specifically to lead into the more experimental part V.
@@Kuudere-Kun I get you. I said in the video that you really can start where you feel like. The versions showed in this video are just a few examples cause I wasn't going to go through every version of Lupin, so I went with what makes sense. I picked Part 5 over Part 4 simply because it was the most recent version of Lupin at the time and I think it's really good, even without having watched Part 4 or earlier versions of Lupin
"Michelle Ruff" dub of Mamo ? Do you mean the Pioneer dub from 2003 ? I would not recommend it if that's what you're referring to. Way too much cursing and unnecessary additional dialogue. The best english dub of Mamo is the Streamline dub from 1994 but I am not saying it's perfect; the names are mispronounced and Mamo's voice actor was miscast. Still, the script is excellent because of it's loyalty to the original script and the genuinely hilarious one liners.
@@ricardocantoral7672 It's mainly the actor playing Lupin himself I feel is only really good in the 2003 version. I don't mind liberties, that approach to Dubbing Red Jacket helped get Lupin popular in the west in the first place.
My first encounter with Lupin was 'Castle of Cagliostro', when I was in my mid-teens. My second came a few years later, when I watched reruns on Adult Swim - I don't know what series that was; I know it was old, but it wasn't the original. Maybe the second? Anyway, I watched pretty much all of that, so I may just go ahead and start with the first at some point - after all, I've already gotten a fair chunk in the middle out of the way, and those will be a pleasure to rewatch.
Learned about Lupin the Third from the collaboration movie with Detective Conan. Also only 200+ episodes? Child’s play.
Honestly DC is much easier to watch than Lupin III.... Also Lupin III Part 1-3 is too old for me to watch
Just watch Part 4 then 5
then watch Woman Called Fujiko Mine series including the 3 Spinoff Movies and then watch whatever you want.
this version and that pixar graphic movie looks great
Cagliostro was my gateway but I eventually watched some of part 2 and today I saw The First in a theater.. I think I'm a fan now
Lupin the third the woman called: Fujiko mine is and was the very first lupin-related anime series that I got into and made me fall in love with Fujiko character and also the rest of the crew. Mainly due to Sayo Yamamoto and Takeshi Koike art direction of it as well as I really loved the mature and sensual nature of it, which it too is also one of my top favorite anime series as well and my favorite lupin anime series. Though I have yet to check out the other past series just yet but will sometime soon eventually; Either way Great video on this sometimes overlooked classic.
Thank you
@@AnimeTopScholar OH sweet you reply back wasn't really excepting that honestly XD, but this was a good video on the timeless gentleman thief who can sometimes be underrated within the anime community or amongst some fans due to its age and long history. I loved and enjoyed the recent part 4 & 5 series as of now am getting more into Lupin as a whole as I've recently seen the Castle of Cagleostro not too long ago, and the secret of mamo, bye bye lady liberty & such, I've been seen the Koike movies/OVA's (which I love the most really) can't wait to see the new Fujiko mine lie movie.

The best to start off with is part 2 its the best one and its just more raw than the others
I was looking up classic anime’s. Older the better i started from S1 and fell in love.
Loved the fujiko mine series my fave way to get into the series
I feel this would be the most chronologically logical way to approach the franchise, but because of its dark tone I would say it almost misleads you to think that’s how most of the shows are. Yes, it is beautifully animated and the writing is fantastic, but Lupin is almost always portrayed as a light-hearted and fun show.
The castle of cagliostro really interested me, maybe I'll watch ;3
It's a fun movie. Like I said in the video, it's not my favorite, but it is the most popular version of Lupin
Funny story I started getting into Lupin the 3rd series by watching the Castle of Cagliostro movie but I don't think I got that much into it cause at the moment since at the time I was watching it I was like 9 and I think I didn't really understand what was going on plot-wise (also I played the movie while I was going to bed) and forgot about the movie until six years later I started watching Lupin the 3rd part 2 and I fell in love with the series, a couple months ago I rewatched the Castle of Cagliostro again because I wanted to give it another try and I absolutely love the movie. :>
Editors note: Really liked the video looking forward to more content.

@@Hamza-mu2qg Depends on what you want. If you like Miyazaki's take on Lupin, then Part 2 might be worth a go. Or if you want to watch more of the movies they made for Lupin, then I recommend First Contact
Dad and I are huge anime enthusiasts, and he showed me castle of cagleostro, and now I am a big lupin iii nerd, I have seen every single part excluding part 5
jigen deserves more screen time, dude. jigen's gravestone was an excellent take on his character but it was only 50 minutes and i need more!
I agree they could do more with him. I really dig his cool side, but I'd like to see them explore him even more
I was intrigued when I watched the trailer for Lupin III The First, so I did a little research and find out that Lupin III was 50 years old, so then I watched The Castle of Cagliostro and I really loved the characters, so I venture myself and watched A Woman Called Mine Fujiko, Part 4, Jigen's Gravestone, Goemon's Bloodspray, Mine Fujiko's Lie, Part 5 and The First in that order. Pretty exited for the recently announced Part 6 and still want to watch the past movies, specials and series.
I got myself into this series thanks to part 2 airing on Adult Swim.
okay so time to tell a story of how lupin got me into anime I was maybe 7 or 8 and got a bad stomache and started throwing up at like 11 or 12 midnight. Being a kid I got my parents, usually my father stayed up with me and fed me a healthy dose of james bond movies this time it was my mother she put on cartoon network right before adult swim came on. She quickly switched it to nickelodeon and told me not to watch that and went to bed. being the kid I was I switched it back and caught LUPIN: missed by a dollar and that was the first time I had ever seen anime. I was hooked from then on out
TL;DR Lupin is a great series
I just watched Lupin III The First and I loved it, not the movie but the characters style and music so I’m eager to go down a bit into this rabbit hole
I started part 1 of Lupin but I was curious of your suggestions. The serie about Fujiko is totally a Must Watch.
I'm not sure about all those movies. Since One Piece Red, I'm a bit scare. But I will the old one since I love so much part 1.

Red Jacket for life.
The series lupin the 3rd 12 minutes every series was the best . I want to watch again but I don’tknow which site does have copy of full series hehe.
In my opinion, Lupin and Ryo Saeba are two of the most charming male protagonists in Japanese animation. Lupin never got out of fashion in Italy and probably in the rest of Europe as well.
Very nice video. I watched castle of cagliostro on Netflix with my friend and I really liked it. Watching season one is easy because it’s on the most streaming services, but watching season 2 is hard since I want to watch the dub and I do not have any services with the dub on it.
Thanks I appreciate this video It helped a lot I have to say I liked what little I saw of the woman called fujikamini but if I had to pick my favorite series I'm not sure what part this was but the one he where he was in Italy is my current favorite. The Part 2 dub is out on CZcams, so I've just been watching them when they get recommended as I've learned their episodical
Really love the women called funiko mine
Same
Since I am a fan of classic anime, and I am a fan of Miyazaki, I'll start with Castle of Cagliostro. But I still want to watch Part 1.
There’s a problem, at least for me. The Woman Called Fujiko Mine is no longer available for streaming (legally) and no longer available through home video (Blu-Ray & DVD) by Funimation because the license has expired. The rights currently belong to TMS Entertainment, IIRC.
I have seen The Castle of Cagliostro and Legend of the Gold of Babylon and I enjoyed watching both of them. I’m so interested in retro anime for some reason. I also heard that there will be a CGI Lupin movie called, “Lupin the Third the First” and GKids will get the licensing rights for the western release.
I’m beating myself over the head for not watching the Woman Called Fujiko Mine. I’m missing out.:(
I love your video, good sir. You have earned a subscriber. Retro anime FTW! 😎
Thank you. Yeah licenses expiring is really annoying. Sadly not much you can do about it except hoping that they'll renew it or someone else will pick it up.
As for Lupin the III: The First, yeah that came out at teh end of last year in Japan. I'm definitely gonna be checking that out as soon as I get the opportunity to do so. For now though, I have some more Lupin related videos I plan on making in hopefully the not too distant future.
don't let the intellectual property regime hold you down - fujiko mine is worth watching - there are ways to find it, two very prominent options off the top of my head re: the tech to do so. just my thought....and Fujiko would be proud of your piracy. ;)
I have no idea how to watch this series. Everywhere i looked it seems to have no dub or even missing some parts of the anime
Very helpful video, thx!

Part 4 from 2015 is also excellent
I haven't seen it yet, but I will soon
I am in Italy when Lupin III Is very famous im see the part 1 and 2 In Canal 66 Mediaset Italia 2
I would not call Part 1 low quality. I think dated is a better term (Though I am used to it thanks to being a Speed Racer fan). The writing is still fantastic.
anyone else kinda prefer the older series' ? im new to lupin and as far as the tv shows go i think the most recent part 5 is kinda tame despite its beautiful graphics. for example, jigen had a potty mouth in the older shows. in the vampire episode he had some hilarious lines like " that coochie is a blood suckin bitch" , or "eat some garlic bitch!"
Lupin today vs Lupin back then is a lot more toned down. There's always been a bit of a debate whether Lupin should be more family friendly or not. Plus as time has gone on, some of the typical Lupin jokes have been considered more and more innapropriate. Old Lupin used to be quite rapey for example. The anime version of Lupin has also always been a bit more toned down compared to the manga version of Lupin. I don't really care either way. I think both the edgier and the safer Lupin have their own merits
I know a year passed since you made this but a good video idea is to probably list all the lupin parts and say which one you should watch and which you could skip. Maybe also giving a short review without spoilers for each part. I want to get into Lupin but by just watching this video I don't really understand which parts are essential to the plot. An example, why is part 2 150 episodes? Is it one of those seasons made for TV watchers?
Good idea, though I still have to watch part 3 and 4 before I could do that properly. I definitely have more Lupin videos planned, I have just been slow at getting to them.
Now, the thing with Lupin is that outside of the season or spin-off that you're watching, there isn't really much of an overarching story. The show for the most part is entirely episodic. This means that you could easily start with Part 5 with little issue. The only things you'd miss out on are the throwbacks and references put in there for fans who have watched all of it. So basically, nothing is essential. I wouldn't go in with the plan that you're gonna watch all of it right away. Hell, I only watched Part 1 as a group watch and didn't really have any intention of continuing the series, but because I enjoyed it so much I decided to keep going, and after a few years I had watched pretty much everything apart from Part 3 (due to a lack of accessibility) and 4.
@@AnimeTopScholar I think that I'm going to watch part 1 for knowledge, then a few films and part 4 and 5. It's my first time skipping episodes but I just can't bare through 200 episodes of short stories and old animation..

@@Babyman2004 Yeah there isn't too much violence in the Lupin main series. I would still stick with the recommendations I gave before. You can also check out the Lupin movie Walther P38, which has also got a lot of violence
would u say its ok if i only stuck to the movies?
edit: and maybe the newer series?
I would say that you should look into the main series, but yeah there isn't anything wrong with watching Part 4 and 5 and the movies
