Like Thompson have you have to evolve takedown defenses or else you just gonna end up on your back with zero knowledge on how to get back up, it immobilized all your technique. Wonderboy has the most effective side kick I've ever seen. He uses it to control the distance and setup other kicks with it. He's turned off so many lights that started with the side kick and then sending one high.
You have to be very Careful with those kicks in sparring. Due to the angle they can properly break knee joints and cause serious injury. Jon Jones uses them in UFC quite often.

Nah won't work together. Calf kicks are usually thrown at your lead leg from the outside, not inside. You can shin block but wont be able to oblique kick your opponents back leg at the same time becaise its on the opposite side.
Remember, always use the proper control and restraint. Slow it down if you must, to keep from potential injuries to your student. That are all too easy, when they are off balance. Safety is important. Then once they understand, you can easily speed it up to demonstrate proper application. 😉

Iron Mike has no chance against an experienced Ufc, Jiu Jitsu, Thai fighter... He can win them all by boxing rules, but he can't do anything in the Ufc like every boxer before.
It's not planned. It is practiced so that in real life it just happens. Kicking at the legs is not the only thing he has practiced to repel. I'm pretty sure he's practiced to repel punches to the face.

Honest critic: the technique is very cool however if your opponent is kicking the momentum of the kick will push your leg back.... it's a great counter to say a side kick or "teep" but in the end it requires a high mastery (in timing and technique) that it's easier if not better to use more simple counters .... very intriguing technique and would love to see it in the ring....

Jone Johns in MMA has used that side kick with amazing results. Looks like a simple kick but it can cause serious damage to opponents knees and to keep the distance to the opponent.
Lot's of theory. If you get a low kick your First off balance a little bit. Second the opponent may is focused or starts a boxing combo. And low kicks are often an end combo of a boxing attack. So your stands and ballance is not able to move like that. Also. If you do a low kick you kick through the opponent. Your block normally dont open the stance of the atacker. And on the inside lowkick this will never work. You kick either to the calve or very high on the inside of the leg. And you will perform your insides leg kick when the weight of the opponent is on the front foot. You can't stay whole time with the weight on your back foot in fight. This makes you slow. There some traditional muay Thai Stance where you have your weight on your backfoot but this is dangerous if someone csn box a little bit. Iwill see a demonstration under sparring conditions
