As a professional meeting facilitator myself, I'm always excited to hear how others have arrived at becoming a facilitator. I myself came from a background of communications, comedy improv and entrepreneurialism. During a professional development day while working for a board of educations I attended a workshop on group facilitation and while there realized that this was my calling. What a great profession to be in. Thanks for explaining is so well and sharing your story!

Thank you Jay, the idea of studying three subjects is a smart thing. You are right working with people is not easy.
He mentioned that he has studied psychology trying to understand the individual, anthropology trying to understand society and culture, and he studied architecture, which is trying understanding people and space. That is really a smart way to enhance the work of facilitation.

Wow Jay! I can't believe I didn't see this wonderful talk sooner. How beautifully you shared about your heart work and how inspiring to all who hear you! With folks like you leading the change- meetings will be utterly transformed. I know I was just by listening to your Tedx Talk at Hampshire College.

Best meetings I went into... Boss had PPT slides with status. We went through, 20%, 40%.. 100%? done?
    Brief summary and expectations.
I could leave when they got into stuff that did not pertain to me.
    Love it!
    Greatest bosses.... Herro and Johnson

I found his metaphors very useful and inspiring. OD practitioner style, not for tips on facilitating. Just to mention a few. But pls watch it yourself to discover more. After 10:00 "We design buildings, then buildings shape us. We design meetings, then meetings shape us." I am designing a temp environment, the way work gets done. Like an architect. "Don't apologise saying that we are repeating the points of the former group, this is the sound of common ground". The way we design common ground. Affinity Diagram.

Did I miss something? There only seemed to be a couple of sentences of actual content there. I mean it's my fault .. I came here looking for nuts and bolts 'What to do' ... this is not it.
