I’m not sure if this is because of covid and everything we’ve had to deal with or what, but I scared going into such a major major and not ending up being prepared for cracking down on myself, how do I manage time? • @thejuliacarter
      @thejuliacarter  Před 3 lety

      MY advice: general Biology is the "easier" route that is more broad, not as intensive as biochemistry, and will prepare you for the MCAT.
      Biochemistry is more difficult, however, I think students who majored in it had an easier time with the MCAT because they had a much more thorough understanding of the fundamentals.
      Either option will get you there, it just depends how much coursework that you think you can handle and whether you want to put the work in NOW (biochem) vs LATER (MCAT studying) for solidifying those MCAT concepts.

    I want to attend Southern University a&m College in Louisiana. I know it’s not big on medicine but I would really like to go there. Do you think I’ll have a chance of getting into medical school if I go to Southern and study pre-med? I plan on getting my masters right after my 4 years at a university in Texas maybe Texas a&m, Baylor, rice, UT, etc. Thank you for the video as well❤️Very informative. I hope you answer😩

    My career path has kind of been all over the place. I have an Associates Degree in Theatre Performance. For the past few years, I've wanted to join the police. Recently though, I got out of an abusive relationship. He was a police officer and a USMC vet. He suffered from severe PTSD from war and eventually snapped and pointed his gun at me and later held me hostage in our home. This probably would have been prevented if he had taken care of himself and gotten the help he desperately needed. He's a felon now and the courts are forcing him to get treatment because he wouldn't do it on his own. Because of this, I'm thinking of becoming a psychiatrist who specializes in PTSD working with combat veterans and first responders. I thought about just being a therapist before but sometimes talking isn't enough and people need medicine, like my ex did.

    It ain’t cheap to be going to medical school. Besides the tuition, how do you fare paying the rent each month, especially if it’s in NYC or LAX? They’re like around $2,500+ each month. I feel like med students contributes the most to our US economy, borrowing and lending $250,000 and that’s just from one person. Who pays for YOUR rent and boarding and food and car payments?

    • @thejuliacarter
      @thejuliacarter  Před 3 lety +4

      Hi Jen! I pay for all of my expenses. I have another video where I talk about getting a full-tuition scholarship to medical school - so that helps significantly with paying for the expensive cost of my education. I use my stipend, my work-study income, and loans to pay for my cost of living and other expenses. My rent is not that high because I live in NJ, and I have roommates. So it's all about budgeting and trying to not take on any ADDITIONAL debt.

    • @elfullin
      @elfullin Před 2 lety

      I believe you can. Pre-Med is not a major, there’s just requirements in order to apply for Medical School along with volunteering, internships, and MCAT scores, letters of recommendations, etc.
      You have to complete a B.A majoring in whatever.
      Keep in mind that there are medical schools that like certain B.A majors than others.

      Hi Emetis! Which high school you go to doesn’t matter AS MUCH as your SAT score. Of course, there are prestigious high schools that have a well-known reputation and are highly favored, however, as long as your grades and scores are good, you will be able to get into a good college!
