  • MBCI Choctaw language interview featuring Dorothy Lewis from the Bogue Homma community in Jones county, MS. The interviewer is Priscilla Williams from MBCI Choctaw Tribal Language Program; it was recorded March 3, 2021.
We ask MISSISSIPPI CHOCTAW SPEAKERS to listen to the interviews that feature people from other communities, and to PLEASE leave comments about ‘dialect differences’ that you hear or words and phrases that you don’t recognize from your own community.
The collection of these interviews was funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH); transcription and translation were funded by MBCI, NEH and the Administration for Native Americans (ANA); as well as by support from our partners.

Yakoke. As a learner, it’s so good to be able to listen to conversations.

Facts! I'm only in the first few minutes and I recognize some words. It's so different compared to the lessons and much more natural.
