    Florence Welch is from Camberwell, London. She has indeed had classical training at the young age of 11. She started writing music at the age of 17 (my boy builds coffins). She writes about very heavy, personal experiences in poetic lines. Seeing her live has been life changing. Meeting her was my dream and she was so sweet and sincere. She hugged me twice and thanked me for coming to so many shows. What a blessing!

      Laura Tyler but on one of the late night shows said she could have been a soprano but walked away from her teacher when told no drugs, late nights, drinking, or speaking loudly was allowed if she wanted to be a professional singer. Teacher wanted her to do classical and she wanted to do jazz and hip hop. According to IMDB she also started smoking when she was 14 out of spite with the intent to ruin her voice.

      @iTeacupPanda Před 5 lety +5

      I can totally see that, minus the Tori. I get like, Kate's Whimsy - Annie's edge and sleekness - Stevie Nick's mystery and Grace Slick's power and Patty Smith's Earthiness.
      But you totally see and hear all her inspiration while she makes it her own and it's really SO refreshing and SO wonderful to hear because you never feel like it's heavily borrowed just complimentary and always in tribute.

    Love that you reacted to Florence + The Machine. The compilation wasn't all that though, no fault of yours. Florence is so much more than her high notes and her mainstream tracks. There's an endless paradise to be found in her voice, but this was a far cry in terms of showcasing her versatility. Might need to make my own compilation one day. But anyway, great reaction and analysis. :)

      I feel like all compilations always just focus on her belting or high notes, but there is such brilliance to her voice when she's soft and plaintive and sweet and nostalgic, so many thrilling little moments. "South London Forever" is full of them, "The End of Love", many of her more quiet songs. I wish compilations would draw attention to those parts as well!

    Amy Winehouse, Florence and Lana Del Rey definetly defined changes in pop music. Amy opened space for people like Adele, Duffy, Gin Wigmore and Paloma Faith. Florence did bring that theatrical movement that many bands added to their styles mixing pop/rock with ethnic, classic and folklore sounds, and Lana those big cinematic storytelling soundscapes and low tones, very common today.

      I can't see her reacting to a just an audio only version of BtD. Live at Hammersmith will be mastered and touched up so any flaws will be ironed out. Most of the TV lives, at least of those in Europe, will be playback since most music shows did not allow live performances, so it's probably useless to assess her vocal ability based on studio performance.

    I'm so glad you liked her and agree that she has an incredible voice and is incredibly talented. It's a nice validation to know that I'm a huge fan of a powerhouse artist, not only on the creative and style aspects, but also on the technical side.
    Florence Welch is from South London, she is categorized as an indie, baroque pop/rock, Neo soul and art rock/pop. She has been working since around 2006, but released her first album in 2009, and in her ten year career has released four albums, all highly successful; her aesthetic, as you can see, is very bohemian, and you are definitely not the first person to compare her to Kate Bush.
    I saw her live for the first time in May of this year, and I was astonished as well at how amazing she sounds live, and not only that, but she is jumping and dancing and running around the stage non-stop! Anyone else would be out of breath and their voices would be shaky and unstable, but not Florence! In spite of that she still sings incredibly!

    Seen her perform No Light, No Light a few years ago. Everyone in the arena was just amazed. She gets the notes out so effortlessly and I’m sure she could hold notes out for 5 days!

    She must run 10kms every live show and is pitch perfect throughout. This girl is otherworldly. She could launch ships wit that voice.

    She's from South London! She's definately worth listening to more often. In my opinion she's one of the few singers nowadays with such a pure voice. Especially on her latest album High As Hope her voice really comes through
