I love these old Vics to death. I bet they'll easily outlast some of the newer Taurus and Explorer interceptors too considering the fact that the Vics are built better. As for taking them offroad, not recommended. You might as well just replace the wheels with ice skates when it comes to mud, ice and snow.
The crown vic is well balanced (good 50/50 front to rear weight ratio) and handles like butter. Don't recommend taking it off road since it's low and long, but with good tires these things will handle just about any road conditions.
