    There is no doubt that Nate is the "best" dog trainer on CZcams. Perhaps the technical content exceeds what the majority of pet dog owners might need or want, but it's there if they want it. If I were you Nate, just keep doing what you are doing on CZcams..hardly anyone else SHOWS TRAINING COMPLETELY. It is so commendable that you do this. Good job. I hope that many other supporters recognize your abilities as a dog trainer, and equally importantly your ability to instruct/teach.

      Nate Schoemer : credit where it’s due Nate. I am waiting patiently for your protection series. For us pet dog trainers (I’m a “hobbyist”: Professor of Psych at a University), that is a world we know little about, but there is crossover that can be beneficial to Pet dog training for sure!

      @@zahedsubhan7676 Totally according w You about Nate. I think that dog psych training works on humans too (not only positive reinforcement but fun), I'm a teacher and me too, hobbist w dogs. Of course it is more complex with human but in macro we can find a lot of affinities, same ways to act.

      So agree! Except I find the technical invaluable. I ran into issues with some training and Nate really breaks down the mechanics for us. Simple things like turn my hand the other way on treat delivery gets more accurate performance from my dog. Quite amazing, really.

    my puppy is 4 months old and she loves learning tricks! she knows: sit, down, touch, paw, high five, wave, stay, and to lie down and get on her side. sometimes when I see she has a lot of energy or wants to move, I'll throw some kibble and call her back. so she gets to run and we can work on recall! I also use this to break up training if she's struggling to pick something up and may want a mental break. otherwise, if she's already physically tired, we can just work on variations of paw, touch, wave, high five, sit, and down :)

    Hi, I have a couple of quick questions. First, for the touch game/command do you have to ever worry about the dog biting your hand? Are there any tips to make sure your dog is just touching your hand and not trying to grab it? My second question is about the marker while training these three tricks. In the examples you use the continuation marker "yes" is there a reason why you would use this instead of the terminal one "free"? It isn't as intuitive to me because the dog isn't holding the spin, touch, through like they would a sit or down. Then again, maybe I am over thinking it.

    • @kayleenelsen1280
      @kayleenelsen1280 Před 4 lety +1

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  Před 4 lety +2

      Great questions Kaylee! For the hand touch, I never had a dog bite my hand instead of touching it. If they mouth at my hand, the I would withhold the reward until they did it correctly. If I'm still shaping a behavior and I'm not using the verbal command yet, then the stay isn't being practiced. I only require the dog to stay when I say the verbal command. Also, If the command can't be a stay, like the spin or through, then you can use the yes or the free. Hope this helps and thanks again! :)

She has never bit me even when I was luring with the treat in my hand. I will say that she gets a little clumsy when she gets amped up. She has missed my lips and "kissed" my eye once - ouch. I would suggest watching my basic obedience series. The basic obedience series is designed to be watched in order. If you want to have a clear understanding of dog training and develop the essential skills needed to train your dog and fix the majority of issues that dog owners face, start with episode one and work your way through. In addition, you’ll discover a greater relationship with your dog, as you now have the tools to better communicate with your furry friend. I believe that improving the lives of dogs, along with their owners, is the most important thing.

    Trying to teach my dog some of these tricks and he seems completely unmotivated. At the dog park he just wants to RUN and play, but any other time or place, he just wants to lay down and sleep. He just wants to sit and rotate on his butt for spin, even if I try to treat him part way through the spin. Any tips on getting him more motivated and / or excited during training? Also - could you make a video on building a higher toy drive in the dogs?

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  Před 3 lety +2

      Every dog is going to have different levels of motivation. You can increase the food drive by making him work for every bite of food. As far as toy drive goes, you can do an exercise called drive building. You can see an example of that in my "teach your dog to bark" episode. I'll be making a video in the next few weeks on drive building. Hope that helps! :)

    Is it better to only work on one thing at a time with the dog, until they get good at it?
    Or can I try to train multiple different commands?

    • @NateSchoemer
      @NateSchoemer  Před 2 lety

      Yes, one at a time is best. Once both are trained, then train them together so they know the rules still apply when they are both out. Cheers!

    Does it matter if the focused heel is on your left side or right side?

    • @NateSchoemer

      Only if you're doing a sport that requires the dog to be on one side or the other.

    Hello Nate,
    it is extraordinary to watch your videos, most what I like and I think is the best for teaching us how to teach our dogs is:
    1. your amazing positive energy
    2. you give me a smile, the patient and the wish to go on and do not give up when the dog is not doing 100% the exercise because of my mistakes. I call it with my paintings, when something goes wrong: Happy Accident! from it you can obtain one of your best Art :-)
    I have 4 adults from welfare and now 2 puppies, 5 and 4 months old, it is quite difficult to train the puppies because all the dogs are following me, I have the possibility to put inside the other dogs but I would like to ask you if it would help also to create an area with a fence and go inside with the dog which I need to train, or it is better to change place sometimes for the training?
    sorry, another question: why are you using the Elevated Dog Bed? Is it better for the dog to have a reference point?
    Thank you so much!

      Thanks, I appreciate that! Check out this video and jump to 5:19 to see how I work with multiple dogs: czcams.com/video/3lBJFcWiAzk/video.html I like to use the elevated bed as a climb command. I use it for so many different things. For example; I have them climb into my truck, climb on their beds when people come over, or climb on their beds when I'm cooking in the kitchen. It's also a super easy tool to help teach the stay command. czcams.com/video/-mbA_Lwpz_0/video.html czcams.com/video/s5iD8eN89bo/video.html

    What treats are you using that is so desirable to get this drive and focus? I have a 9 week old blue heeler that is too smart for his own good and I'm using canned chicken bits because the treats I bought just dont seem desirable. I also see from your videos that I need to make training much more fun for him and maybe that will help him appreciate the rewards more. But I want a treat that I can keep in my pocket for spontaneous rewards throughout the day, and obviously canned chicken won't work lol.

      I would suggest going through my basic obedience series starting with episode 2. The series is designed to be watched in order. I would also suggest getting the boxer trained on leash pressure. Here are the links: czcams.com/video/cc8hX4lCGiY/video.html
