  • In 2015, testing detected PFAS in some of the groundwater in the Lower Issaquah Valley. PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a family of manufactured chemicals that persist in the environment. Some of them are toxic and can accumulate in people, wildlife, and the environment.

    The solution to the problem is not removal of PFAS from the environment. It's getting control of manufacturing. Unless you have a valve to regulate the amount being manufactured, you will not solve the problem. It should be used only in the most important applications and not just scattered about. Making it expensive is how you determine which applications are most important. Evironmental taxes are what can make it expensive. They can act as a valve on production.
