@@Ramdileo_sys Thank you for appreciating that.
U look tired on this video. Are u ok?
@@ygorgomes5202 Thanks for asking! I wasn't aware of that but maybe I was tired ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thanks for this, loved seeing your Micro Floppy.

I watch a lot of retro tech CZcamsrs, but I believe you have given more love to the C64 mini than anyone else. I don’t even own one!
This channel just gets better and better. I look forward to your episodes every week. The amount of effort and attention to detail in these videos is insane. Time to become a Patreon I think!
Thank you so much James!!! 👍🕹
Nice! Amazing how many work arounds you have come up with to turn a USB Floppy Drive to be usable for THEC64. It's all good stuff and its nice to see the C64 is still alive and well.
Love this channel, so informative and innovative. The humour just puts a smile on my face too :)
Another amazing video Chris!!! The love you give to the c64 is superb mate!!!

I love your recipodos... oh, recipodes!
I'm loving your videos, keep up the good work.
Featuring 2 of my favourite 64 games!
I love all the background music. Nice work.
Wow never met a person or anyone else who Plays or even knows what Parallax is! I love that game and the intro song...mezmerizing.
1984? Dude that's one cool game! I would have loved it back then.
Directed by JJ Abrams XD you guys are the best.
As for the floppy i thought that end result will be much worse, its cool actually!
I can't wait to get mine!!!
Like always: Your videos are so nice, bringing back old memories and inspire to create new things in fusion/inkscape for the printers (3D + 2D). Thank you so much for all that content you make with an very high amount of love. :)
Thank you for your kind words! Means a lot 👍🕹️
Always a good day to see a new video of yours arrive. Ah yes, I remember landing in Parallax just to hear the music that plays when you're onfoot.
Perfect, this will be very handy! Thanks
fantastic project - also the parallax game music after the pilot exits the ship is really cute
Never thought I would be able to format a disk straight from Android! Gonna try it today. Thanks for another great vid. Big hello to puppifractic!
She says HAIIII
That's some of the slickest Photoshop use I've seen!
This is awesome. Thanks so much. Liked and Subscribed
I am 37, I NEVER used a commodore and I still find myself binging these videos.
That's a great compliment thank you!
I bought the exact same floppy drive last month -- the last one my computer shoppe had in stock. I may turn it into a mini Atari SF-354 since I bought it to transfer files to my Atari TT030 workstation until my SD drive arrives. Great job on the decal, puns, lens flare, and info!
I only watched2 seconds of this so far and gave it a big thumbs up... I think it is because I love Puppy Fractic!!! ;)
Yeah that must be it! ;-)
Amazing video as always!
Thank you for your kind words. Means a lot! 👍🕹 Now do you need help finding your way home Kevin?...
@@RetroRecipes lol that would be nice
Thanks for the heads up. I have 2 real c64, and a mini, I just pre-ordered my TheC64.
14:10 Even stranger when I was listening to this video in the background I was playing Driver Parallel Lines how odd must be a glitch in the Matrix. 😂
Thanks so much for this video
I love the various ways you can do this, good work! :-)
You're indeed getting better and better. This sticker might not seem much to some people but it's a very nice attention to details. Just seeing your video makes me want to buy "The C64" and a matching floppy.
Now, I can't decide if I want a Pi400 more than "The C64".... arrrgh!
Thank you!
Great video 🙂
Aww. That drive is really cute :)
I used to love playing Parallax. It was one of my favorite games, although I was never able to get past level 2 or 3 (the part where you have to get perfectly through that corridor of crushers to transition to the next level). It’s been so long since I’ve played it I can hardly remember how! Always loved the music, too. So much music packed into only a few K of code!
Your ideas are endless!! :D
That JJ lens flare 😆
Your last one was superb, but this one I think I can actually do. Maybe 😃
Top work fella. 👍🏻
Like the Spectrum mini!
Bravo ! good idea
Un video stupendo........grande !!!!!!
ok, not that I doubted you... but i bought the exact floppy drive u recommended and it works beautifully
🙌
comme on dit chez moi: " Simple et Efficace"
Good job Mister retro, take care.
great video!
You could spray-paint the drive. Then apply a sticker for the rainbow and the Commodore logo. On ebay there are some Poland-made stickers, pretty much like the originals and very cheap.
That fur trim even has a tail!
Good day. very nice idea. I like watching your channel, you have very good ideas and inspiration. I like this disk drive so much that I'll make it for myself. Thank you very much, I wish you another great ideas. Wish you good luck.
Aww, poor sleepifractic! 😂 Another fun video!
That is AWESOME!!!
very cool mod again :) awesome !
A really cool and (relative ^^) easy to make alternative to 3D printing! 😃
PCB = pets can build too! 😜
You are an inexhaustible well of good ideas!
Well... thank you!
Whoa, I never knew there was more to Parallax than just flying around and shooting things.
brilliant, thanks Peri for providing this. I bought a USB floppy on the strength of your previous video, and this is the icing on the cake :) Coincidentally, I though I was the only person that said "co inky dink" :)
Haha great minds...

Thank you! Glad you like it! 👍🕹️
I am working on a Commodore SX-64 "Micro" project out of a converted portable TV from the mid-80s. In the process, I figured out how to format the floppy disks natively in Linux.
1. Plug in the USB floppy drive (with disk inserted) and unmount it if it auto-mounts
2. Open up a terminal window and determine the device name of your floppy drive by running "lsblk"
3. Run the command "sudo mkfs.fat -F 12 -n C64 --mbr=y /dev/sdX" being sure to swap "/dev/sdX" with the name of your floppy device (i.e. /dev/sdb)
The "--mbr=y" was the missing link. It won't work without that. Have fun Linux users!
Topic suggestion: 5,25" Drive attached to the Amstrad PCW
I know that 3d printed one is really cool, but I really really like how you did this with just decal
Thank you!
@@RetroRecipes you are welcome, and your videos have really gotten me into the commodore computers. I have been lucky enough to get a vic-20 and c64 recently and i make use of a lot of your videos. Thank you sir.
@@mephustowest1876 That's great!
Fantastic
Ya know, for as often as you do this; perhaps a colorimeter (a.k.a monitor & printer calibrator) wouldn’t be a bad investment... 🤔
you have a good sound system - excellent mic pick up of your voice.
Thank you for your kind words. Means a lot! 👍🕹
omg thank u so much ✌️ 👨 👩 🐶
Woot new video
this sparked me to investigate if I could do the same with an old Iomega USB Zip Drive. I was able to find my old USB Zip Drive... it was in a box with 2 old Iomega Jazz SCSI drives and an old Parallel Zip drive!! Found a box of fifteen 100mb zip disks in a different box. Plugged it into a Win 10 machine and it recognized right of way it was a USB Zip drive. Stuck a disk into it and it spun up (forgot how loud these were). The disk was already formatted as FAT, so I formatted it again to clean the crap I had on the disk off and then copied some D64 images over to it. Turned theC64 Maxi on and then plugged the Zip drive in and waited about 10 seconds and it did show up like it was a flash drive. Loaded a couple games and they all worked. THX for the inspiration, always enjoy your videos
Awesome!
Do Home Depot still have a colour (sorry "color") matching service (a device that scans the image/object and produces a RGB value)
I believe so, they still use it for paint mixing. It's fun to be able to take some random object like a hearing aid, and copy that exact shade of beige and use it to paint your house.
Was the second 1 in 1541 always different? Never noticed before and now I can't unsee it!
I wondered that also - especially as the 3D Printed one has a normal 1 at the end!
@@plan7a I noticed the 3D printed one with the normal 1. I've just searched on Google and can only find pictures of the 1541 with the different 2nd one.
Is this going to be one of those Mandela effect things?
noice .. good for old HW_Conf.ini Floppys
If you used a USB to AUX in adapter could you replicate the Datasette?
LOL..... "Directed by JJ Abrams."
Clever, Peri. Clever.
Nice
Nice 😉👍👍
7:33 Man, I loved those clear/translucent floppies from circa '96
7:44 LOL!!!
13:25 Commodoro! It's the rare Spanish variant of the 1541 mini, manufactured in La Mancha. One warning: Don't get it near a windmill.
Nice finished product!
Haha, "directed by JJ Abrams"!
Omg nice.. You the name.
Have you try on nextstep 3.3 os fresh install.Anyway to let it detect USB... Not referring on virtual window install images.
Didn't know this wasn't sold world wide - I bought my c64 in Australia on release, and an extra joystick direct from UK.
Two of the Macs on my network are names "raincoat" and "slicker".
Worth noting the MINI is different in colours, the NA/NSTC vs. the EURO/PAL are totally different in shades. Thou i like the idea with the stickers :D
Screams Macintosh it's a coat into the ether 😂
Swinburne uni eats it! UWA rulez ;-)
I have a commodore 64 and a box of large size diskettes. I was wondering if you knew of a way that I could read the disks and transfer files on them to windows?
BTW still working on the vicii² for sx64. Just waiting for some more time to finish it
That's exciting! Thank you for your support! 👍🕹️
First awesome part of my birthday: A new Perifractic video.
Happy birthday! 🎉🎁🍰🎈🥳👍🕹️
@@RetroRecipes Thank you!
Awesome job, just wondering i have linux system that i have setup as a dedicated Commodore System, just wondering if these drives are able to read C64 disks out of the box or is there something in Linux i would have to do first?
Once formatted correctly they should work out the box. See the new method at perifractic.com/downloads discovered yesterday!
Will there be THEC128 sometime soon.
1:00 LOL 👀🎬💾 & good video
Is this available in Australia? I'd love to get some C64 stuff
I wonder if "Mini Tool Partition Wizard" can format a floppy Fat32? I'd try it if I had a floppy, it seems to be able to format everything else.
SNIP SNIP😂, i Remember one episode of the Jefferson, its casual?👋
lol speaking of windows formatted disks, someone dumped a bunch of old stuff in the break room at work. A CRAPLOAD of 14 pin round sockets and.........new old stock (in the original wrapper) 3.5" mac formatted disks. I thought it was odd that they were mac. But it's even more bizzare to see floppies at all. There isn't a computer at work that can use them and haven't been in close to 10 years.
We need a Puppyfractic supercut. Someone get on this STAT!
I agree!
This is pretty awesome, but I think I prefer the Commodoro 1541 you made before. It's much more nostalgic and more creative. :) Also...wait... 14:44? "A*S PRESENTS"? That's a bit of a rude abbreviation for a software developer to use. lol
have you tried to create the partition with windows commandlint tool diskpart?
Yes, it doesn't work
I ordered (preordered) the new C64 "Maxi" but I don't need a 3-1/2" drive. I need a drive to access my dozens of old C64 5-1/4" floppies.
Super! Thanks! Next step: run roms directly to the smartphone usin it as usb storage drive: did someone try that! The C64s recognize it? If not some firmware update/hack might be required?
What about using DOSBOX on android? That could let you format the disk
How does this handle disk swapping?
Will this work on SD cards on the C64?
I think american know mackintoshes. At least my parents had a thick raincoat thing they called a mackintosh. I haven't heard that since I was playing new c64 games though
Any chance you could make that decal available in PDS or PNG format for those of us who might want to tweak it a bit before printing?
It's already in PNG. Adding multiple formats adds some complexity and I find it best to keep it simple on the webpage rather than bombard users with options. But if you open it in PhotoShop you should be able to make any tweaks you need using some creative editing ;-)
@@RetroRecipes It downloads as a pdf file, not png. Photoshop can import it and convert it, but that doesn't help people using other editors.
@@crewsayer Oh I see what you mean. I've updated the page with a PSD version too: www.perifractic.com/takeout-shop/1541-mini/
@@RetroRecipes Thanks!
