@@shoxas I really don’t know to be honest. Been playing through the original FF7, maybe just under a third of the way into it, and Sephiroth was cool. So I figured I’d try and use him in smash and he was just really fun so I stuck with him.
I'll side b more when dropping from the ledge, those purple skittles are a game changer! I usually just fair when dropping from the ledge and back onto the stage
jesus dude this is a lifesaver. i was so skeptical on seph when he came out but now that i see he's got some sauce im gonna stick with him. major thanks brother
One that I'd like to add is b reverse and wave bounce shadow flare (any character can do this but since Sephiroth can turn his side b around its very good for him) you can jump at your opponent and fake an approach out by b reversing it, then turning it around, its very good since if they're expecting you to jump right towards you they might try using an attack or parrying and they'll just get hit by it
Would be cool to see other sephiroth guides like how to tackle different advantage states, conditioning, maybe how you deal with close quarter characters like Mario, pika, fox, etc
Close quarter characters man just don’t let them in lol as simple as that sounds there’s nothing you can do really once they’re in so you have to play it spaced and safe
@@shoxas could you explain what you mean by a fake/slightly delayed idj for sephiroths uair? I've barely practiced idj and don't even know if I do them properly. I imagine idj Nair is an option around mid percents with wing for more follow ups. I think tweek does it but I'm not entirely sure
Great info thank you. I recently had an issue with SD from a stand still with Dair still going off ledge.. realised I was ever so slightly holding the stick toward off stage, which is just enough to drift and Rip... lol
It's always awesome to see Seph love! I've learned the neutral B reverse edge guard from my previous main Joker, which works just as well. One more tech I feel should be included are the different kinds of bairs. You can down throw to attack cancel bair, which sets up a lovely tech chase. The other important bair to Seph's game I feel is IRAR bairs. Sephiroth's back air is too strong not to optimize
Some other advice, for the love of god, Dont dash attack, and Down air after the dash attack near ledge, the momentum of dash attack pushes you forward when you jump and when you try to go for stage spike with Sephiroth you end up falling to your doom.
Interesting how he shares a lot of tech with M2. Both nB cancelling and b reverse offstage are something I've carried over to Seph and it's paid off immensely
Definitely. Their up-b is somewhat similar too, to get out of a tight spot in disadvantage like mewtwo. I bet seph recovery can even avoid getting 2 framed if angled from above the stage. Not sure about that though
While i was looking for sephiroth stuff i found this video, then i saw the first one; another good way of getting a consistent ledge spike with dair is doing a dash attack cancel.
The b-reverse at the ledge for edgeguards is pretty busted I've been doing this too cause he keeps momentum and you could cancel it Mewtwo and Lucario can do this too Glad I found this out when he came out lol
Trying to find a secondary after a few months lol. I might just make Sephiroth my secondary! I feel like people will hate me even more now because I main Bayo, but idrc. Tysm!!
So I'm trying to do auto cancel with up air, and I'm not understanding how to like do it, I am seeing you like air dodge or something like that whenever you land, I am trying to do something like that (ineffectively) what's your input order? (Also I'm playing on pro controller)
Ive actually found out about the Turnaround Neutral b offstage while using byleth's bow once, and i got to say its pretty great for getting a strong back air
Do you know the specifics? I heard it’s frame perfect for winged angel seph and a 3 frame window for regular seph. If you do, I’ll leave a note about it the video
@@shoxas no unfortunately i don't have an affinity for frame counting or know the specifics of the but I was able to pull it off in training mode without one winged active
For the auto-cancel up air, when you said that you need to do a slightly delayed/fake instant double jump, are you referring to an "active hop/auto-cancel hop"?
Jump cancel neutral B isn’t working for me. I tried pressing the jump button precisely right when I’m landing as well as lightly pressing the shield button. It won’t cancel pls halp.
Try slowing down the speed in training mode to 2/3 get used to the inputs then once you get it there, work on picking up the speed back in normal time.
4:06 the term mutually exclusive refers to two or more events or qualities which cannot coexist. In this video youre referring to only one quality, so it should be "this tech is not exclusive to sephiroth"
@@shoxas first of all, i am. Second of all, youre the one making a video, you should know these things, if youre going to use pretentious terms you should know what they mean first. You could just as easily have said exclusive, but you threw in a word that made it sound superficially smarter, yet ultimately undermined the semantic meaning of the phrase. Third of all, i can understand you not knowing these things, some people learn differently to others, some people have better teachers than others, and none of those factors are in your control, however, something that you are responsible for, and that is entirely in your control is how you respond to constructive criticism, my original intention was not to demean you, it was to help, you responding negatively to that information discourages further help and will cause you to make similar mistakes in the future.

Hey man i have been seeing the hop cancel a lot, do i need to switch my controller to stick jump on or is it a way to reach the y or x button after letting go of b? Maybe my hands are just too slow but what controller set up do you recommend for sephiroth?
From what you've just said it sounds like you're mixing up the 2 buttons. Correct me there if I misinterpreted you. When any character that has a chargeable neutral b is charging while in the air, if you lightly tap the jump button right before they land, it can be cancelled into whatever you like (dash, grab, jump, etc)
@@shoxas thanks just figured it out, also ive figured out how to effectivly use his foward air (the front stab) its best used for landing when your opponent is at the front and can be used to prod opponents who go back onto the stage by ledge you have to bait them to either do an attack ledge or just go back onto ledge casually if they go for the longer ledge dodge it can ruin the blades pushback and damage as its upclose, as for jumping that one can really depend if they have a means to fight back but its also really tricky to perform because of timing
That first one answered so many questions
Glad it helped!

Yeah I’ve noticed drop down fair isn’t as safe at low percents, even if you hit it, so drop down side b is a good mix up.

Idk what I'm doing wrong but my b reverses into jump cancels just b reverse and shoot. What should I be doing?
How are you doing those constant snaps with no recovery or jump start up
A slightly delayed instant double jump is a not so instant double jump change my mind
