  • In 2003, Yes embarked on a tour featuring a lineup of Jon Anderson on vocals, Steve Howe on guitar, Chris Squire on bass, Rick Wakeman on keyboards, and Alan White on drums.
"Siberian Khatru" is a progressive rock song by the English band Yes, appearing on their 1972 album "Close to the Edge." The song was written by Yes members Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, and Rick Wakeman.
The title "Siberian Khatru" doesn't have a clear meaning and is thought to be a combination of words that evoke imagery rather than having a specific definition. Jon Anderson, the band's vocalist and lyricist, often used abstract and mystical language in his lyrics, and this song is no exception.
Musically, "Siberian Khatru" is characterized by its complex structure, intricate guitar work by Steve Howe, dynamic shifts, and virtuosic keyboard playing by Rick Wakeman. The song features multiple sections with different tempos and moods, showcasing the band's technical prowess and progressive rock sensibilities.

I’ve not miss Yes in concert in Dallas since ‘75. For many years, many…they opened with this song. It followed Firebird Suite. Yes fans got massive goosebumps when Firebird came on, and it was a dream for the next two plus hours. PLAY GATES OF DELIRIUM LIVE FROM 74(?) I’ve seen many reactors do it without blocking problems. TY for doing this. ☮️❤️

I was at this gig and it was awesome. The band played for nearly three hours, including a 20 minute acoustic set. No sign of them slowing down. It felt like there were ten musicians on stage. Rick always said that this line up was greater than the sum of its parts.

This is the first song they played at my very first concert (Tormado). Had been listening to Yes since 1973, but mom wouldn't let me go to concerts when I was in high school. Yes in the Round in Philadelphia.

the yessongs version from 73 is of course far more up tempo and fantastic. They were in their 20's then and no pro tools or gimmicks existed. just pure talent. No other band could touch YES for musicianship at that point. Not even King Crimson

Lethargic performance, but given their age, it's not surprising.
I love Yes for their energy as much as their compositions and playing, and this doesn't cut the mustard.
The San Luis Obispo concert in 1996 was the last time I ever heard them play live at the right tempo.

My favorite too, Top favorite of all time. Saw them live about that time in Brussels and it blew me away. Especially Siberian Khatru. I mean, this line-up!!! That concert hall in Brussels is literally ball shaped and the acoustics were amazing.

I saw them perform this a number of times the last being in 2002 and yes most of the early enthusiasm in the groups presentation has waned, thats what at that time was 32 years will sure wear on you, Yes toured continually 😊 thanks now do yourselves a favor watch YeSSongs😊😊

Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth 🙏🎶
Siberian Khatru opened the majority of their shows. Yours Is No Disgrace is a song dedicated to the war vets. Its always best imho to listen to the album versions first with YES to get their initial idea. Having seen YES 36 times they are far better live, trust me its spiritual.

I was wondering how you guys came to this reaction. YES came along with Jethro Tull, ELP, Rush and so many other PROG Rock bands in 70's & 80's! But choosing this as a first reaction, as opposed to Close To The Edge, or You And I, or any of the other earlier albums! Hmmm...!

It was really a matter of trying to find a track from their classic period that had been video'd in a reasonable quality for today's audiences :) We're always trying to find video to go with the performances. Unfortunately there's not much from their heyday - and a lot of that gets blocked. We tried to do a track off the Yes album and it was instantly blocked.

It's always wonderful to see a live version but this particular one is not the best. If you want to see what this song sounds like today, look to Jon Anderson soloing with a group called The Band Geeks. He has been touring with them since last year (2023) and my oh my, the fresh energy they bring along with Jon's older but still incredible vocals is very reminiscent of YES from back in the day. I know some audience videos have been uploaded. I'm not sure if any "official" videos are forthcoming. 💚

This is good, but this version is a bit slow and lacking energy. Purists may not like them but live performances from the Union tour are quite exhilarating. Try Heart of the Sunrise and Yours is no Disgrace.
