I usually use half a shrimp body/tail on one hook with a mini cut of shrimp fish bite on the hook as well to hold the bait in place while exposing barb. Then on other hook I use the head/body half of shrimp with same mini fish bite shrimp cut and I literally hook up non stop on whiting, jacks, etc without ever being near structure. Just my local beach access with open ocean. Half a shrimp w a shrimp fish bite piece on each hook on a double hook bottom sinker leader, is the ultimate surf fishing bait. Haven’t found anything better.
Nice video! Live fleas are my go to for pomps! I always keep some blanched frozen fleas around as a backup in case I can't find any live ones.

Never heard of anyone cutting the sand flea before. Thought the attraction was for them to move around under there
Yea usually I try to use them whole, in this case I only had smaller hooks and that was one of the biggest fleas I've ever seen. Not too far from the size of a golfball hahaha
Try using a bright color jig with a bait trailer if water clarity is bad
I've always wanted to catch one on a jig. I've got a box full of them but can never get a bite on them hahaha

Where do you cast over the surf or infront of it?
9 times out of 10 I'll put it infront of it over the backside. But if I have 2 rods and the bar isn't 2 far out I'll usually do one on the backside and one on the front and see which one gets the most bites.
do fish bites dry out while in the bag? When should the fishbites be replaced? Thanks,
Yea if you leave them out they will dry up over time, best way to avoid that is to put them in the fridge/freezer inbetween trips. I’ll use them until they color starts to fade and they begin to shrivel

What kind of hook are you using. Is that colored bit a float of sorts or a weight? I’ve never seen that setup before.
I like a 1/0 demon circle hook or khale hooks. Yea thats a small float, it helps keep the bait up out of the sand and grabs fish attention some too. They work really well in my area, Thats what most people are throwing out for set rigs here.
Where do you buy them? Getting ready to do some surf fishing in Grand Isle in a couple of weeks.
Sam's Stop N Shop and Top Gun tackle shop here in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach carry them, but if you're not in the area you can search Amazon for "Snell Floats" and it will bring up a good selection of them. I like the Pill Shaped ones

Wow no one lees on the beach ? Where are you at where no body else is around? Do you think that a m/h rod would work to surf fish just wondering I’m heading to Destin this weekend hopping to get into some pompanos
This is the Alabama gulf coast. Theres a few places here you can walk a ways and get away from everyone. Some days im walking a mile or more though.

Ive heard the sail cats are very good but the hard heads are not. I've never tried either personally though.
Did a taste test with my family last night. Had pompano, whiting and hardhead. Did not tell the family what was what. My daughter actually said the hardhead was the best. I thought it was perfectly fine as well. I’ll keep them in the future if I need to round out a meal.

I fish in Southern Alabama, mainly the Orange Beach and Gulf Shores areas. I'll definitely remember that next time I get out!

@@thespig13 they last awhile too and they're shelf stable. I've been thinking about making my own with salmon egg cure and either pork rind or stingray.

Gone Fishing. No it's a southern kingfish. also known as gulf WHITING. sand trout have a mouth tapering upwards, to attack top water pray. whiting have mouths angled down so they can feed on bottom
IPeAnUtIDimebag close, it was a gulf kingfish. Southern kingfish have a more brown tint with dark brown stripes. All Kingfish species are lumped in as a whiting.
