    All of y’all’s videos are so awesome. I really enjoy the hunting and fishing videos but the ghost town videos, the old water park video the old mining town videos and now the Schmidt tunnel video is so cool. Thank you for bringing all of this to the American public. Actually, to the world again, God bless you Senior, for raising your family right in the outdoors, and thank you for influencing the next generation to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

    Mining Engineer here -- So those veins you stumbled into at 12:00 are *EXACTLY* what you want to see when prospecting for precious metals. Not sure if there was gold in those specific veins you found, but it definitely looked like there were some green copper minerals there for sure - and copper frequently occurs alongside silver and gold in mineral veins.

      My dad needed to get gas near red rock canyon and he saw the poster about the human mole, asked the gas station clerk about it and he gave him directions to get there. He would take all us kids up there, his wife was still alive she would give a tour for a donation. Good times. No one really knew about the place so it was very exclusive. • @Kozycz
      @Kozycz Před 11 měsíci +2

      That’s kinda what I was thinking. He likely was somewhat motivated to get through the mountain, but he was definitely getting enough ore from that tunnel/mine to support himself and continue to do it. The last hundred yards or so was shear fucking will to make it to the other side though.

      the Woman who lived there was "Burro's" grand Niece. Her name was Toni Seegar.
      She lived in the house She built out there, and Schmidt lived in the auxillary building next to it. The equipment sheds were torn apart by the vandals from the Motorcycles, after Toni passed away. I first went out there when my Dad was an officer at the then new China Lake called NOTS then. My Dad would take his three sons out Chuckar hunting, and exploring in 1953-1956 while we were stationed out there. Schmidt found several gold strikes and that was how he made his living along with working on the railroad in Saltdale, and cowboying in Red Mountain at Blacks Ranch. The tunnel has collapsed several times. And the entrance used to be down by the buildings. I have been going out to the ElPaso Mtns for almost 70 years, and know of MANY ore mines, adits, and settlements like Goler Gulch, and Holland Camp, Colorado Camp, and Ricardo, which is now the state park campground.

    Thank you for the history lesson. Have never been there but apparently this man thought it was important that the tunnel goes through for whatever reason. Kind of wonder if he started out digging for gold then just kept going though. You all have a great day and safe travels.

    He was probably hoping he'd hit a gold / silver reef also along the way. Cool tour! Thanks!

    The side room was probably his powder room where he kept his explosives. Brent Underwood (the Cerro Gordo guy) did a video on the tunnel a while back.

    We used to camp every year in Last Chance Canyon in the El Paso Mts. We'd go by the Schmidt tunnel as we expored the canyon. Back in the 70's and 80' camping in the canyon was still allowed. Thanks for the nostalgic reminder.

    This is a great story guys, it’s also a great metaphor for life. We all start out in a dark tunnel in life.
    So keep digging until you find the light. God Bless
