  • Airshowvision present a very close look at a specially sectioned Eurojet EJ200 jet engine, as used by the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet, and the new Bloodhound SSC 1000mph land speed record car.
This engine produces around 20,250lbs of thrust with reheat and is fitted in a pair to power the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft.
After this brief look at the engine, the video then features quite simply the best RAF Typhoon demonstration I have ever seen (and I have seen around 100 of them). I promise you that will have never seen the jet flown as agggressively and as well as this before. The pilot at the controls is designated 2012 display pilot Scott Loughran of No.6 Squadron Royal Air Force.
The display is from the seaside resort of Cleethorpes on 24th June in stunning weather conditions (by UK standards!), and apart from the very weak opening manouver is a blistering display.
There are still some areas where I can see it could be improved whilst still retaining what is already there, but this is a very very good demo. It is just too short, 2 or 3 minutes less than an average F16 or Rafale display for example. Hopefully this will be addressed in the future? Let's hope so. The main thing is it's back after missing 2011.
A few facts and figures for the Typhoon are as follows:
    Max Speed: Around Mach 2
    Service Ceiling: 55,000ft
    G Limits: +9 or -3
    Weight (empty): 11,150kg
    Max Take-Off Weight: 23,500kg
    Max External Load: 7,500kg
    Wing Span: 10.95metres
    Length: 15.96metres
    First Flight: 27th March 1994
The Typhoon Aircraft is Currently in Service in the following Countries:
UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Saudi Arabia
    Engine Specs:
    Max Dry Thrust: 13,500lb
    Max With Reheat: 20,000lb
    Thrust to Weight Ratio: 9:1
One totally useless fact regarding this display is that it's the 21st different location I have filmed the Typhoon, ranging from La Bourget in Paris, to Farnborough, Biggin Hill and Leuchars. Hopefully Blackpool and Whitby will make up the 22nd & 23rd later this year where the Typhoon comes to display in North Yorkshire for the first time since Leeming in 2009, and the first public display since Elvington in 2005.

I agree. The way he enters and exits each of the manouvers is just miles better than in previous years. Now we can finally see why the Typhoon is so highly rated.

A good tripod is EVERYTHING in my opinion when filming airshows. Mine is quite heavily modified however for the job in hand. Hope you got some good stuff from this amazing performance anyway.

i work on this jet, i speak to Sqn Leader Scott Loughren daily and have seen what this A/C can do, i also know technical aspects of both aircraft and whilst the rafael is a good jet, it is also old. the typhoon is still in developement, they havent reached its true ceiling height yet, and these EJ200 engines are a marvel, as even in this video (which i was there in my home town too) they are still running at just 80% of full power, (Rolls Royce didnt see the need to run them any higher)

Actually your comments don't bother me. If they did I would have removed them, and I actually love watching the Rafale and am very proud that the 2 finallists in the Indian fighter competition were European. It didn't worry me which won. In the end they chose the Rafale because it was cheaper, and the Swiss rejected both because they found something even cheaper than either.

I think this is a fuel vent, and it is fuel being sucked out - the typhoon has always done it for as long as it has been displaying

You can quote figures all day long (Typhoon 55000 ft ceiling higher than Rafale for example) but if God wanted a multi-role fighter for his air force he would buy the Typhoon!!! and get Squadron Leader Scott Loughran to fly it for him!!!!
