- This time on Rock Rods we are taking you to the most legendary hill climb in the sport of rock bouncing. That's right the infamous Cable Hill. It hasn't been raced in 5 years and hasn't been climbed in 2 years. Gray Rock ORV Park in Mt. Olive has been closed for years as this monster of a hill just sat there but for my Birthday we got special permission to bring a handful of rock bouncers to see if this beast of a rock bouncing hill climb is still climbable. I will even be hitting it in my Busted Knuckle Films Rock Bouncer that I call knucklehead. Jake Burkey is here in his Busted Knuckle Off Road Rock Bouncer to try and conquer this hill as well as a dozen other well built rock buggies. Man this hill has always been the gold standard for beat down videos… when it’s wet the commitment needed to carry crazy speed and skip across the ledges takes serous balls.
It is wild wet for sure, I think I need more motor! Maybe a Turbski or blower is in my future.

This might sound like a stupid comment. We are big fans. My husband and I watch your videos every evening. It's our bedtime routine! The dog even knows we are on the last TV show of the day. We might have watched all your videos from when they began by this time. We are just an old couple in the UK who get such pleasure from watching the endurance and determination of the drivers. And the SKILL. But here is my stupid (or not stupid) question, how many drivers end up with physical injuries in this sport? Happy birthday, and thanks for a really special video.
Very rarely will you see an injury. Hitting a hill this hard and racing will leave you sore but with all the safety gear and such that is about it.

Great video!, thanks for filming this from NZ. I noticed the tyre pressures all looked high, we used to lower the pressure for 4x4 in rallys to spread the tyre tread. Is that still possible with modem 4x4 tyres?
We are all running 8-12psi, There is no crawling this obstacle so we have to walk a fine line of the pressure being low enough for grip and high enough that we don't bend or break wheels
Way better then the way they race now. And gawd damn that taz buggy is nasty
too bad they can't race this one again.
The guy in the Cherokee made me think of an old advertisement where they would show an egg in a frying pan and say this is your brain on drugs. This guy would be more of this is your brain on rollbars without a helmet. overall good video with lots of fun and the only injuries were egos.

It is epic for sure. Owner closed it because of neighbors/insurance/crappy people etc. he doesn’t need the money.

This is cool stuff. Has any one ever tried micro sipping their tires? See a Bandag retreader. It used to be a thing back in the day. More, smaller biting edges. Maybe regular A/T tires? Keep um coming 😎

We used to hot lap gut buster, they recently leveled it out with a dozer. Now the show would be who’s your daddy. But the rut at the bottom is too much.

Glad to see your wearing a Hans device. They work great on saving you from a basicular skull fracture from front to back. Unfortunately you need a full containment seat to stop a basicular skull fracture from side to side. You should rethink your seat options. Hope this helps

Mostly we just flop over no big rolls
Only time I've been on cable hill was like 2007ish on a CAOS ride in the middle of summer. Drought level dry, crazy dust. Climbed/crawled it in a v8 swapped yota on 39 irocks. The steepness of the ledges is easy to underestimate. Plus when you're down at the bottom, it's a LONG ways to the top...
It got better towards the end of the day, but still was the slickest I have ever seen it. Maybe we can hit it again this summer.

Crazy slick. We had to sling all of the junk off of the rocks to even get close to making it. Going first was a bad idea on my part...
