This is the greatest duet of all time. Everytime Pat belted out "LET FREEDOM RING" My heart jumped and I got goosebumps. The look on Martina's face is priceless. She is like "Oh My God Pat Benetar is freaking amazing." Great song and great duet.
Pat Benatar still has that raspy voice. She’s been singing since the ‘70s with so many hits.
It is time for Pat to be recognized in The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Hell yeah it is. I have recently started listening to a lot of her stuff after passively listening to it for years. She is great. But this song is also great and Martina can belt it out like no one else. Funny thing is I was never much of a country fan but this song crosses many genres its in that sort of Johnny Cash zone.

I cannot stop watching this. This is one of the most spectacular duets it’s absolute perfection. Whoever had the idea to bring on Pat Benatar to do this with Martina is a genius.
It just doesn't get any better than this. Two of the most powerful voices in music singing a truly powerful ballad. Unbelievable.
When Martina first came on the country scene I told my (ex) wife that she reminded me of a country version of Pat benetar. To see them together years later was awesome. Plus it felt good to be right about something for once. LOL!! Two of the most classy women ever in music with two of greatest voices ever.

I have watched this countless times and I still find it incredible. I'm old enought to remember Pat from the days when MTV was in its infant stages and actually played music videos. One of the best "Crossroads" ever.

Fantastic duet. Pat just PUNCHES the refrain. I thought Martina was getting teary when Pat hit it with that throaty voice. I remember watching crossroads the day this was performed, it actually got me up off the couch, I wanted to yell "YEAHHHH". absolutely fantastic.
Holy crap!! I have never seen or heard this with Pat Benatar!! I was never a big country fan but Martina McBride was one of the singers that changed things for me. This is amazing!!

@@igormelkic9056 For sure Ann Wilson is the greatest female rock vocalist of all time but Pat Benatar was a trained vocalist that could also hit those high power notes..But Linda Ronstadt has the best range as a vocalist and could sing anything from blues, country ,rock and even opera and had that ability to cover a song and make it her own like her version of the Rolling Stones classic "Tumbling Dice".
Igor Melkic Look up Shadows of the Night live best performance. Pat Benatar was a powerhouse vocalist live. She takes a backseat to no one. Ann maybe had more range but Pat got up there as well.

Pat Benatar does a superb job, but what is most amazing is that Martina is so humble that she is genuinely impressed, but as great as Pat was NOONE holds a candle to Martina. I am not even a country music guy; i am rock n roll, but Martina is there with Linda Ronstadt and Ann Wilson way way above the top shelf.

Don't know if it was planned but they started to both sing the chorus at the end. Martina stopped part way and just sat back and listen while Pat owned it.

danny nix I saw this when it came on and Pat had a bad cold at the time and was having trouble with her voice so that being said she still blew it away!! They are two of the best.

Don't you just love the expression on Martina's face when Pat lets loose on the chorus? You get the feeling she had been expecting Pat to do well enough, but not that she would so totally kick that song's ass! Either lady by herself is a musical force to be reckoned with; together the two of them are a whole order of magnitude greater than the sum of their parts.

Even though this is Martina's song, I think she sort of realizes just how good Pat is and holds back and lets her belt it out. Classy move from an ultra classy lady.
withotu any disrespect to Martina, there's nothing she could have added to make it any better anyways. In the final chorus, she sang along in tiny bits but you coudln't hear any of it anyways...then she just stopped singing and watched. It's obvious that she also enjoyed the moment.

I remember watching this when it debuted on CMT. Why did this show Crossroads stop? This episode was my favorite, and this rendition of Independence Day is incredible...arguably the best song of the entire Crossroads series.

This was truly an awesome duet. If you listen to Martina's original version (which is excellent) and compare it to this you notice 2 things. Pat's powerful vocals bring this to a new level. Also along with Pat is Niel Giraldo's guitar tone that fits Pat's voice like a glove. The 2 of them go hand in hand.
