- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is updating its longest-running crash test, the moderate overlap front evaluation, to address a growing gap in the protection provided for front and rear occupants. In the first
tests, only two out of 15 small SUVs, the Ford Escape and Volvo XC40, protect the rear occupant well enough to earn a good rating.
The Toyota RAV4 earns an acceptable rating, and the Audi Q3, Nissan Rogue and Subaru Forester are rated marginal. Another nine vehicles - the
Buick Encore, Chevrolet Equinox, Honda CR-V, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass, Jeep Renegade, Mazda CX-5 and Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross - are rated poor.
All 15 vehicles earn good ratings in the original evaluation, demonstrating robust structures and effective restraints that protect the driver’s head from contacting the hard surfaces of the interior and minimize the risk of other types of injuries. However, the additional measurements provided by the new test show that most of them don’t provide adequate protection for the rear passenger’s head and neck - the most vulnerable areas of the body.

Volvo... For life!
Wow on my 19 Forester Touring the front passengers get the IIHS Safety plus award, but the rear seats only get a Marginal.
Hopefully the redesigned 25 Forester will get a Top Safety award for ALL passengers
the best ? volvo xC40 ?
Volvo for Life. always ahead with safety. other manufacturers never do anything until it becomes a test. Volvo was ready for the marginal overlap years before they even tested and more
Humbly I think they should do the test with the engine running at the speed that would be at this speed to test for flames or not
Must improve curtain airbags
also add pretensioners to rear seatbelts like volvo
Seeing how much the rear seat back moved without any stress on it is worrying.
If someone is sat in the middle and wearing their seat belt, the strain on the rear seat mechanism would be far greater - would it hold the individual safely?
My mom has a ford escape
An observation I've had , of all the vehicles that scored poorly , None of these have rear pre tensioner seat belts .
Are you blind? They obviously do, but ik the iihs is over or underracting every time never a fair result.
@MIster.... last time I checked my eyes were fine . As I said just an observation
Distinct difference between them
@@Michael-he2pwI am sorry, I sometimes let my 13 yr old on youtube he probably wrote this.
My Mom has a 2011 Honda CR-V.
Poor is what you expect on a test NOT on an Investment to protect your Family!!
volvoxc40
The CX 5 😐
Schade, dass es keine Anzeige der Geschwindigkeit gibt, mit der die Tests durchgeführt wurden!
The Toyota RAV4 got a Marginal Rating not a Acceptable Rating
It was originally rated Acceptable, but the rating metrics changed, that’s why it got Marginal
what a load of ............. understanding the results is more important then the results and you are far from the facts
Team Audi
The Toyota RAV4 got a Marginal Rating not an Acceptable Rating
You have problem with eyes
