  • It's been a while since last update on the Sundowner. This does not show much progress since last video, but rater some bumps in the road, just like real life.

How is the sundowner? I have a 1987 four winns Freedom 160 I bought from a co-worker for $500. Did about $500 worth of repairs and I love it. A little jealous that you have power steering though. I have an open bow on mine. As far as the skips, maybe the water spraying up is getting something wet. Check the obvious things first....Spark plugs, wires, distributor cap if you have one. A little seafoam in the fuel doesn't hurt to clean out the carb, the seafoam did an awesome job cleaning out my system. Check all your hoses for dry rot or cracks. If you see any then replace. If you don't see any, try flexing the hose if possible just a little bit to see if there are micro cracks that are forming from aging. Skipping can be caused by dirty fuel injectors (if you have them) or dirty carb jets. But like I said, check the obvious first. Replacing spark plugs is cheaper than other things. I would start there. Check the plug gaps. I would recommend throwing a little dot of copper anti-sieze on your plugs as well since the copper anti-sieze I found was conductive and allows the plug to ground to the engine, the aluminum stuff in the grey bottle does not work well on spark plugs because it is not conductive so your plug will not have spark when screwed in. I learned that the hard way on a small engine I serviced. Just a small dot goes a long way! If it's not the plugs causing the skipping, just ensure your carb or fuel injectors are clean. Then move onto the coil and plug wires, etc.

I replaced the coil, and now it works!

If I got on the throttle at all with a leak like that it would be in one direction, back to the dock as fast as possible. Your bilge pump looks either worn out or the tube is plugged up.

Bilge pump worked fine considering how much water it was taking in. That's why I stayed close to the slip. It only took in water when the engine was running.

that hole leaking looks serious. if there isn't a similar hole with a connection on the other side, it may just be a missing freeze plug. I would look around for a hose or tube with an open end that could have gone to a missing fitting

Unlike my previous project (Bayliner), the transom appear strong, so I'm thinking it is one of the three through transom hoses that is being a bit*h. It is not terrible, so my automatic bilge pump is handling the job very well.

Hey Chefgeir , replace all your hoses #1 , If that leak is coming from the boot going from the riser to your " Y " tube , take it loose and inspect it for damage. I had a similar problem when I put mine back together but found that there was corrosion on the riser and the boot that prevented it from sealing correctly and it was so far gone I had to replace the rubber boot to get it to seal up. Just make sure everything is clean upon assembly. The miss in your engine could be cause by the water leak getting into the distributor so fix the leak first and then re test. If you did not replace your plugs, rotor and cap , and plug wires do it , you want a dependable boat , right ? Let us know how it turns out------------- good luck in your ventures--------
