There are over 30 potential candidates for the 001 spot and some even think that all of the proposals have a valid claim to the SCP 001 designation. In order to prevent knowledge of SCP-001 from being leaked, several/no false SCP-001 files have been created alongside the true file/files.

SCP-001 is this reality, where anomaly’s were some how removed from existence. The Foundation managed to be successful to an extent that it created a new reality, free of most anomaly’s, but kept most files on SCPs.

I honestly like the idea of them all being just SCPs that were discovered before the current system was created. At the end of the day, the SCP foundation was created by humans, and it's really unrealistic to think they got everything right and organized since the beginning.

I used to think it was the Energy Angel one, since I thought the “God” scp made it (made sense for me cause Angel, god, you know) but the scarlet king does have its connections which makes it seem more realistic.
'When Day Breaks' is the most horrifying one. Not only because it "killed" billions in seconds, but most of them have some kind of motivation for doing their horrible deeds or are some kind of location or item that can be avoided. When day breaks is just a senseless, cruel, unexplainable event that just happens for no apparent reason
The gate guardian is a cool suggestion. It's probably the second most supported one.
As far as the fictional canon goes, I think the Scarlet King makes the most sense and even enters into the canon of other scps eg. Scp 2317. As far as anything that breaks the 4th wall goes, that ream of paper sounds most logical.
Realistically speaking, they could all be a part of one greater whole, and I'm certain some ambitious authors out there have gone through the arduous process of merging them.

Maybe the real scp: 001, was the two balances, the black moon and the counter balance. From what I know, the counter balance ended up destroying the black moon, but then with a push of a button, he restarted the universe, technically being THE god (bc he said the quote of “let there be light”), also being the first anomaly ever created!
I love how they try and make a logical excuse for self-important SCP fanwriters wanting their special idea to be #1 and ending up with a bunch of them.

SCP-001, also known as Awaiting De-classification and Top Secret, is a mysterious name given to an SCP in the SCP Foundation. There isn't an official SCP classified as SCP-001, except SCPs which have been proposed to have the title SCP-001, all of which have been listed on the foundation.

I have a theory, that SCP-001 is reserved for SCP's that ended either reality, or civilization, in some form... and the foundation was able to restart it with its countless different contingiencies.
Some SCP-001's though are a bit different they are how the foundation managed to restart itself in those cycles.

The real-life reason why there are so many SCP-001 files is because since the SCP Wiki is made by multiple different writers, they needed SCP-001 to be the best article in the whole Wiki, but couldn't decide who was going to write it, so they allowed multiple versions of it, it still needs to be very good to be eligible for it.
And now because it's so complicated pretty much no new users even read it...

I think The Bunch of Papers are most likely SCP-001, because it makes the most sense. I mean, this is the first "SCP" that existed, and it (kind of) introduces the following SCPs into our reality. It's like the beginnig of all the SCPs. It's like the Table of Contents for the SCPs. Like in a book, when the first thing you see is the Table of Contents

The real SCP-001: Alternate Universes.
The SCP Foundation has been characterized differently from story to story. Multiple universes are also something that is canon in many of these interpretations. It seems likely each SCP-001 exists and doesn't exist at the same time, depending on the universe.

In terms of plot line and show production value: SCP 001 should be the basic information- the founding story of the SCP, and the rule which they live by
Then sheaf of papers would be the perfect scp-001. It gave the foundation awareness of the existence of other scps and the basic rule of “Don’t read the papers” for the sheaf translated into the simple rules for other SCPs, like how you have to not look at some and keep others entertained in order for them to not breach containment
The ones most fit for the title imo is “when day breaks” and “the guardian” (btw daybreak is really simplified it’s actually so much more terrifying)

like maybe the gate guardians "prepare" started the foundation and then when dr keter was killed, 001 keter duty was created and when in the early earlier days after the scp foundation was made they learnt about the spiral path

I like to think that SCP-001 is the moniker of SCP-001 itself, a single story that is ever changing. A story that is different per reader. SCP-001 is not a single, but rather every story. Every original iteration of ideas. Every rough draft. I am actually working on an SCP-001 story of my own based off this idea, its simply titled 'SCP-001: The Ever-Changing Story', its pretty fun.
It’s possible that SCP-001 is the concept of an XK class end of the world scenario, considering a lot of things on this list.

I’m surprised that they didn’t write a solution to this problem. A simple one is that designation SCP-001 is given to new SCPs that have immense destructive capabilities and/or are of extreme importance to research in the organization. So many will have been designated 001 at one point until a permanent designation is properly assigned
in order to avoid a retcon and delegitimizing of 30 SCP-001 candidates, there should be a story about the chain of events that lead them to be unsure of which SCP to designate as THE '001', including a timeline of the order in which each of the 31 candidates was discovered, and a rational explanation of Why there is an apparently unresolvable naming convention conflict, in which all existing proposals _deserve_ the '001' designation.
I would opt for the numbering convention to simply be the order in which they were discovered, instead of a sort of power ranking or lineage. Perhaps there should be 3 different lists: 1. chronology of discovery; 2. threat rank; 3. lineage.
I've been casually aware of SCP for Many Years now... probably close to the beginning... but i admit i never really kept up with it. I love what it has become. I love that so many talented authors have contributed. I love the astonishing potential of this theme and collection of content. I'm honestly surprised it hasn't exploded into a dominant global mainstream sensation yet... but it kinda seems like we're headed for just that now.
I've found the true 001, we've been looking at it in a different slot all this time
It's SCP-"184".
Think about it, it expands any room it's in for longer than 1 hour without affecting the exterior, and then it clones the room.
Shit hits the fan after it duplicates the room 3 times. Glass books, lightbulbs with no electricity source, wooden microwave oven, you name it.
To figure out why "184" is 001, we have to look at its containment procedures.
It's just kept outside and disguised as a statue at a park. They didn't account one thing, *the universe is one big room for "184" to expand and clone.*
The multiverse and the expansion of the universe was caused by "184", and so are the anomalies, they're the flaws this icosahedron inevitably makes after it copies a room (the universe, in this case) too many times.
001 was given a disguise all along.
The anomalies in the 001 spot are actually there, but they're all decoys. The one anomaly worthy of the 001 spot was denied said spot just to keep it hidden.

I feel like it may just be two forces screwing around the whole time, in the scarlet king entry they said there was a counterforce to him and since the SK is seemingly extra extra crazy I wouldn't be surprised if the other scps were made by these two to fight or mess around with the fabrics of the multiverse or multi reality dimensions or something like that.

I personally think that the SCP-001 should be a case report on the foundation trying to figure out how a bunch of civilians are leaking top secret info. It would just be a nice, meta, nod to the creators of the different scps because they created the foundation in the first place.

A. In a termination attempt scp 682 laughs at the angel for being the fake after she failed to kill him.
B. The scarlet king and mekhane are almost guaranteed to be cannon in any headcannon cause of 999 and 682, however almost everyone knows they aren't the real 001 and are just cosmic entities with discriptions to fool people.
C. We know that most other scp 001s are impossible and someone systematically figured out almost all of them aren't possible to be 001.
D. The scarlet king and mekhane are both massively more powerful then the gate guardian. The gate guardian as we know him is nothing compared to 682 and 682 is the weakest of the seven sons, and the seven sons of the scarlet king are infinitely weaker then him. Mekhane and yaldaboath are at roughly the same power to the scarlet king while being restrained by each other. Yeah gate guardian is very weak.
E. We know the real gate guardian exists and is infinitely more powerful then 682 we don't know where or when but we know she is much more powerful then the 001 proposal. It's also said that 682 was laughing at a fragment of 001 or the real one and isn't real cause it's just a 3d fragment of practically no power.
F. We know the great old gods worship another god but we don't know who.
G. It's possible that 001 is oroborus, a weird entity that death, and a writer (two infinitely powerful entities) tried to fight and kill, however they failed. It's also a cognitohazard which explains why it's not available.
