    Thank you, Emily, for yet another highly informative video. Your approach to De La Sonorite is inspiring and makes this retired raw beginner want to spend some time with Moyse. I find your style of presentation calming and confidence-building. I hope when I start lessons at the end of June (when my faithful old Yamaha 211S has been serviced) that my teacher suggests at least some of the exercises from this book and his 24 Little Melodic Studies. I look forward eagerly to your next video. Regards, Tim

    Thanks, Emily, for another good job. It's easy to forget that there's much more to De la Sonorite than just the long tone exercise. Galway and Paul Edmund-Davies have been critical of the mind wandering effect these exercises have, and they've devised their own. When you add all the scale, interval, etude, solo, and orchestral excerpt practice that's also needed - not to mention preparing works for a concert - time management can be a serious problem!

      Ha! Ha! Yes indeed - time management!! 😩 What helps me is to remind myself that these exercises - De La Sonorité - are long-term work (keeping a practice diary can help reinforce this) Working in small chunks of 15/20 minutes too can sometimes achieve surprisingly effective results quite fast because the focus is easier to maintain. Let me know how you get on. Have fun!

    The second part of this book is really good for increasing the awareness of pitch! I found the answer! Thank you, Emily!

      Still 3 books to go in this series... but maybe 2 Moyse books is enough? What do you think? 🤷‍♀️

      @@EmilyBeynonflute those two books are difficult enough...... but I just cannot wait for the other 3 books.😊

    Thank you, madam. Your video is valuable even for a beginner. I am just a beginner. I have never had any music lessons in India. Besides, I started taking flute lessons when I was an adult. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to practise for the last 12 years. I started practising last week with Trevor Wye's A beginners book for the flute. I am just practising tone and some technique exercises.

    What level would this be good for?

    • @EmilyBeynonflute
      @EmilyBeynonflute  Před 4 měsíci

      Usually intermediate to advanced but actually I think that a simple version of some of the exercises could be done with beginners!
