  • Join me for a walk around the stunning seaside village of Robin Hood's Bay, a historic hive of smuggling perched on the cliffs of the spectacular Yorkshire coast. Today a popular holiday destination, this historic fishing village is made up of an impenetrable maze of centuries-old lanes and alleyways, but hides riveting history at every corner!
On our walk around Robin Hood's Bay, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including Coble Head, The Bay Hotel, the Old Coastguard Station, Robin Hood's Bay Dock, Robin Hood's Bay beach, the old lifeboat station, The Smugglers' Bar, Robin Hood's Bay Congregational Church, The Bay Museum (former Coroner's Room), the Old Police Station (Beckfield), King's Beck, The Laurel Inn, Chapel Street, King Street, Robin Hood's Bay sea walls, Ye Dolphin pub, Robin Hood's Bay Men's Institute, the Old Post Office, Coble Head and the beach once again.
Thank you so much to the following sites for their help in my research of Robin Hood's Bay:

Good evening! This Wednesday - in place of our normal captioned walk - I'm trying something a bit different, a narrated 'redux' of one of my favourite walks on the channel, around the heart of wonderful Robin Hood's Bay! If you'd like to see more narrated reduxes of old walks, do let me know in the comments - and I'll look to add them to our weekly roster of videos :)
There's a heap of history to Robin Hood's Bay, and there were a few things we didn't quite touch on in this walk! For instance, on Coble Head just outside the Old Coastguard Station is the RNLI Fish, a small iron fish statue from 1886 which is both the smallest listed building in the UK, and the world's oldest lifeboat collection box!
Also, a word on the pronunciation of 'coble', which - as someone from inland and down south - has given me a bit of a headache. In this video, I've said the word as rhymes with 'cobble', which according to my research is the common way to say the word along this part of the Yorkshire coast. Up towards Northumberland, however, 'coble' rhymes with 'noble', which is where the words differ. Do let me know if that's right if you know the case, I'd love to make 100% sure :)

The narrow passages are so unique and inviting, I wonder how many times you got lost? Even google couldn't navigate out of those. :)
Thank you and I look forward to the next video.

Michael Portillo's Great Coastal Railways Journey (broadcast on the 10th of February) mentioned cobles, he pronounced it as in noble. I started watching the Robin Hood narrated walk and thought it was familiar. I searched for it and I hadn't gone mad, I had seen it before. Then I saw your comments saying you had added the narration.

What a lovely, morning stroll around a beautiful village. This is my second CZcams visit. Ant, of Trekking and Towpaths fame, took us through the smugglers' tunnel a few months ago but we never saw much of the village above ground. It would confuse me for sure; it looked like you were wandering through folks' gardens. No wonder the tourists get lost.😂
It says a lot for your narrating voice and your clear pronunciation; the CZcams subtitles were perfect. Usually, they are quite comical to follow, struggling to reproduce even the simplest of sentences but they had no trouble with your narrative.👍😁
From what I'm reading in the comments, it appears that this walk is a "re-mastered" version of a previous, subtitled wander. If you plan to convert all of your past videos, that's going to be a big job. Is it a fairly straightforward process? I hope so, cos you've got quite a few to do.😲

Absolutely stunning video, the weather helped but on a UHD television it was like actually being there, it was so natural.
The commentary was as usual brilliant and so well researched.
I’ve only ever got to the car park at the top of the village before chickening out of struggling down to the harbour and back, my tin leg makes steep walks difficult.
Well done, again, looking forward to more videos with commentaries.
