The guy in the Adidas hat is Richard. He lived next door to my grandmother in Brooklyn. I thought he was the coolest brother ever when I was a little kid
The light skinned brother was my best friend in high school Brooklyn New York. Shelton was his name. I haven’t seen him since I left Brooklyn about 30 years ago. I always wondered how he’s doing or if he’s still into music like I am. I hope Shelton is doing okay.
My childhood around 1984, growing up in the Bronx. These vids would always come on TV back in the day. But listen to the message through the lyrics. Rappers always had something meaningful to say about real life through their poetry. These days, you can't say the same for these "artists".
What's an awesome fact is that the Jews ( Negroes,True Israelites) were known for their poetry w/music in the background!!+ Can't tell us we ain't God's chosen!!!!!!
THE 70'S AND 80'S WERE GREAT. THE RENT WAS CHEAP, FRIENDS WERE REAL FRIENDS!, AND THE MILK WAS GOOD! BEING FROM BROOKLYN I REMEMBER GOING TO THE BRONX A FEW TIMES. WE WENT TO A BIG MOVIE THEATRE AND I REMEMBER WHITE CASTLE RIGHT THERE. I THINK IT WAS CASTLE HILL IF IM NOT MISTAKEN?
This is when hip hop music 🎶 and culture actually meant something. Nowadays, hip hop today is a complete joke, these so called artists have no real talent whatsoever 🤷♂️🤷♀️🤦♂️🤦♀️
Thank u!!!🙂 U really said that "eloquently". That's what I meant when I said that regarding a Whodini song and I guess...well I know it didn't come across the way u did and it started a big beef. Others knew what I was trying to say and I only went back and forth like twice trying to get em to understand and just squashed it.😊 But Yes u r exactly right. Well said. Thank u😍
I know you us citizens think the world revolves around you, but everyone else in the world has the same problems in this song. Whether Harlem, Berlin, Mogadishu, Kabul..Capitalism and godlessness rule everywhere
This is a timeless banger! The beat, the mixing, the chorus, the lyrics, the flow, compliments each other perfectly. This needs to be played in modern times.
I grew up on this record here in England U.K! Never seen this video until now today! Classic! East Coast rappers had cadence and flow in records that you truly admired as a Hip Hop head new to the music in the 80's.
All We Can Do Is Move On Forward Pass The Growing Pains & Not 1 Thought Of Any Of The Hard Struggle Of The Root Of All Evil To Be Back Into Depression Again To The End.

I love old school, New York rap music, house music/garage music. Lord, Jesus please bring some STABILITY too this mumble jungle music we have today. This is REAL music!
I played this live on the air last night on KXSF 102.5! DMC of Run DMC called in a little after(not kidding). I mentioned on the air, this song is soo hard turn it up!! ;) Still goes hard in 2021.
In 1984 this was one of my favorite jams on the radio. A year later I meant them on an old tv show in Philly that we both performed on called Dancin' on Air. Wonder memories that I will never forget.
Nos anos 80, meu irmão escutava no último volume. Vizinho reclamando e ele cantando o "inglês" dele 😂 Depos ia pro baile todo perfumado 😂 Época boa! A música soa melhor a cada ano❤
I remember listening to this as a kid on KISS FM out in New York and would always get so excited when they played the whole thing instead of cutting it short because it's a long song with so many verses! They played it like every hour (I remember it being in 1983) but sometimes they'd fade the song out early.
I haven't heard this song since I was like 14. I'm 47 now and it's still relevant in 2019. 808's and synthesizers ruled 80's rap along with the break moves. $50 tennis shoes today would be considered Goodwill quality by this young generation that want $500 Jordans.
like suckers they pay the $500 for dem shoes....i can only image how it must cost to manufacture that shoe? probably damn close to cheap payless shoe...
Am 49, and remember this back in school, the days of breaking, popping and locking, I still got electro 3 on cassette tape, and PROUD of it too, cant nobody take away the early and best years of electrofunk/rap/hip-hop, better than a lot of crap you hear flying about these days......
@@wrenchaholic just love it when our old asses get on here and hand down judgement. Once paid $75 for a pair of high top converse weapons. More than my mamas rent back then. Your so dam right on that one! I couldn't agree more. This is pure originality stemming right from the beginning. No foul language just a rap song telling it as it is and still has meaning to this day!
@@deanallen2868There were some foul words in there. Listen again. Foul words are fine, a few, as long as you have a story or a moral to tell in the song, like these brothas do.
This video brought back all the memories. When women in videos were just neighborhood ladies, not bitches and hoes. All the dance moves and fashions. When New York City looked so different. It's like a moving time capsule. The song still jams too.
This was my time when I went clubing I never got of the dance floor dancing with 2 and 3 girls at the same time all night long these songs give me the greatest memories there was so many great songs it crazy compared to the garbage today not even close I'm 53 I was out. 2 to 3 days a week down the shore on the weekends hitting clubs like the chez on new york ave the mansion. Great song that I remember hearing on WKTU at the factory in Dover, NJ back in '84. I loved the soul, rap, dance, freestyle, pop and rock music back then and many times the lyrics were socially conscious. This will always be a stand out tune for that time along with Nuance "Love Ride", Debbie Deb "When I Hear Music" and Rock Master Scott "Request Line" to name a few. Its a belter ! As are loads from this year , 82 -85 was the golden age of electro hip hop
They told a story like them and Grand Master flas n furious five could tell.
Hip Hop back in the days had something that Hip Hop today doesn't " A Message ! "
50 years of hop hop❤❤
one of the tightest songs in the history of mankind

Classic hiphop. When lyrics were about society and not weed and bitches.
Idk what classic rap you were listening to, but people used to rap about weed and bitches back in the day too. 😂
@@iBryleigh true. But subjects were more about. Real problems and poverty.
Now they rap about bling bling and drinking Couvoisier.
@iBryleigh No where near how much they do now though, not even close!😄😔
This song and video says it all. I love it! It's real and true.

Has been played in a DJ Set by Intergalactic Gary in the last few years. He mixed into it from techno! That's how I found this track.

True hip hop masters, Money 💰 is the Root to all evil!
Correction: The love of $ is the root of all evil!
Nah they just put that in there so you wouldn't strive to have much of it and "they" could accumulate it all. 🤔
The message in the song is powerful and the beat is dope. This song brings respect to classic old school rap "master piece of rap cultutre".
