- Lesson on Hashimoto Thyroiditis: Risk factors, pathogenesis, signs and symptoms and treatment. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is an autoimmune condition involving the destruction of the thyroid tissue leading to hypothyroidism. There are a variety of risk factors for Hashimoto’s including being female, genetics (ex. HLA-DR3 gene), family history and stress among others. The pathogenesis of Hashimoto’s is due to the production of auto-antibodies including anti-thyroglobulin among a variety of others.

Stress is a big factor. September 2022 my TSH was perfect, 1.3. Started working at a very toxic workplace and 4 very stressful months later my TSH was 22.
I have Hashimoto’s disease. Thyroid disease is possibly one of the most confusing diseases. I have had to do the research myself as I didn’t get any direction from my doctor. I was given levothyroxine but with no direction on my diet, lifestyle etc. If anyone here is suffering from Hashimotos (I was diagnosed with slightly higher TSH and elevated antibodies) I’m learning that diet is so important in addition to levothyroxine. However I was under the impression that levothyroxine wasn’t needed if I treated it naturally but this isn’t the case. I stopped taking my levothyroxine and was insanely fatigued. So to sum up, levothyroxine + good diet (no sugary caffeinated drinks etc.) + stressing less is key to treating Hashimoto’s. Good luck!

Same girl. So vague with my diagnosis yesterday... we have to be our own advocates, unfortunately. My doc just said here- take this, recheck in 6 mos. Wtf?????
I've had Hashimoto's for 21 yrs. I'm 5 ft 2 in in height , 60 yr old female @ 125 pounds. I've been vegan for over 10 yrs. That been good for me. Also when I go gluten free I feel way better. But when I eat my own cooked breads it doesn't seem to bother me so much. I think because the flour is organic. I have stated to use oat flour that I make myself and that is yummy. I do green juices from time to time , that also helps give me high energy. Don't now about what helps with dry skin or dry -brittle hair.
Hen they said to treat natural maybe they mean with Armour thyroid it's made from pig thyroid and has all the components that our thyroid does. You need a dr. Precipitation for it and some doctors won't prescribe it. It's been around longer than synthroid and the others
After a long time of diagnosed with hyperthyroidism I got cured with the help of Dr Oyalo remedy whom I met on channel, and now I’m completely cured and free.
My sister is a nurse practitioner certified in functional medicine. She just started her own telehealth business and doesn’t mess around with insurance. She just ran all my blood work and diagnosed me with Hashimoto’s. It’s crazy that my regular doctor just put me on thyroid medication Without wanting to run any other tests or looking any further into anything. Western medicine is not completely trained on things that functional medicine doctors are trained on
You are so fortunate, so many fall through the cracks. Doctors don’t care anymore.
Does she have a website?
I’ve had an ultrasound, blood tests, ecg, meds , to be fair in the uk for me it’s been really quick and I’m under a specialist at the hospital now under NHS I’ve got to have regular blood tests every 6-8 weeks
This last week I had my first flare up and felt so insanely tired, swollen and sick. Bloodwork showed thyroid levels were conducive to hypothyroid but doctor told me there’s no way my thyroid would be making me feel ill so quickly. Looking into Hashimotos has made me realize I’m not crazy and I’m not experiencing a flu. Glad there’s clear research out there, think I need another doctor.
I have had Dr for years treating hypothyroidism for me, he never tested T4 free or T3 free or TPO test, I just asked him to and he said Insurance companies don't like to pay for the tests, , , Time for a new Dr. this time I want one that works for me and not the insurance company.

@@northwestgardener5076 Ask for a referral to see an endocrinologist. They run those tests right away. I had the same thing (I'm in Canada). My GP/Family Doctor was just treating me with Synthroid based on my TSH without ever testing for anything further or the reason why this was happening. I have other autoimmune disorders and wish I'd known earlier because the Hashimoto was a risk factor for knocking me out of remission with my ITP (which it eventually did).
In my case, the disease was trrigered by 3 factors combined the same time: high and long term stress (high cortisol) + high estrogen (leaky gut) + huge amount of shrimps consumed. So you are right.
What is the connection between leaky gut and high estrogen? I have issues with my bowels and will have a colonoscopy soon to find out what's causing it. I also suspect that my estrogen is too high. But never thought they are linked 😮
Hashimoto's is very often triggered by diet...gluten, dairy etc. Cut the gluten, stick to veggies and meat/fish, and thyroid function improves and the joint pain goes away. Have a "cheat day" and you trigger a Hashi's attack that takes 3 weeks to re-suppress.

Went to a doctor that was supposedly very knowledgeable, graduated from Harvard and did a lot of research in endocrinology. Ended up never seeing the actual doctor but NPs who were fresh out of school. He has them running the place. Although, that isn’t the problem! The problem is I am in and out of every visit in 7-10 minutes. Waiting for about 5 minutes, thrown into a room and met by the NP who is always young & inexperienced. Sat down and she literally said no more than 20 words to me. Didn’t even say hello when I was brought back by the MA. I said Hello and there was a long pause. She took a sip of coffee and sighed. She sat and ignored me the whole time staring at the computer. Then looked at me and told me she was just checking out my latest labs. She started looking at old lab results from 2 years ago, which is a lot different from my current to latest labs. Noticed this after i had left and went on the lab portal to check myself because I remembered it being a lot higher than what she was looking at. The room was so quiet! If id ask a question, she’d sit and say “ mmmmhm i dont know”. She seemed annoyed that day and was tapping her fingers hard on the desk. So i asked her if she thought it would benefit me to seek a functional medicine doctor. She looked at me and said “ do what you want but we will see you in 6 months”. I think that set her off. She wrote a script and then i asked her for Vitamin D refill, as I am deficient. She said she’d call it in and never did. I went up to the front desk and was ignored by them because they were to busy talking about how much they hated the NP, how snobby she was and how she is so picky about where they would make the group lunch order. I left wanting to cry and crumble! Its a cycle for me! I wait 6 months thinking that something will change and I’ll finally see a good NP, just to feel hopeless every time. To feel like my symptoms are being ignored because they do not even bother to ask. During my first visit, I attempted to tell them my symptoms and the NP looked me up and down and told me that HS is prevalent and common now a days and I had nothing to worry about. I plan on finding a new doctor! Please be aware of the false images that some of these practices create. Some just want patients for the revenue! I work in clinical research now and i am in school to become a PA. Make sure that the provider you are seeing is compassionate and knowledgeable. You must be advocate for yourself! Dont do what i did for the past 3 years
The wealth of medical knowledge given in these videos is so underappreciated. I really enjoy and can benefit from them. Thank you ☺️
Right? I'm taking notes over herelike I paid for a college course.
It's underappreciated bc the medical industry says they don't know the cause and have no cure when alternative treatments know the cause and have the cure.

I was misdiagnosed for years and eventually all my levels were extreme highs and lows. To the point that I ended up at UC Med Center in SF with hallucinations and voices. Now I'm just losing hair all over the place. Make sure your Dr. does ALL of the testing necessary. I was told that I was just low normal.
Thank you very much for this informative video. I've used it to explain to others what Hashimoto's disease is. There is just one thing that I miss in this video and in most video's like this one: the fact that the functioning of the thyroid, even when medicated, can still be very unstable. At the end of your video you state that the treatment of this disease is simple: just give the patient the hormones they lack. But that doesn't take away the disease, or the symptoms. I know this is different for every Hashimoto patient. Some will be stable for most of their lives and don't suffer much. But I haven't been stable for years. My TSH fluctuates between
Well said. My Dad was on levothyroxine for 25 years with no problems but the last two years have been horrendous for him. His thyroid went from underactive to apparently over-medicated and they can't seem to stabilise it. His readings are too high then too low then high etc, etc and he has just got more and more poorly. He can hardly walk now and is virtually housebound after being a strong, active, healthy person. The doctors just keep altering his dose which is making no difference to his health whatsoever, infact he is worse now than at the start. He is giving up all hope of ever getting better and we can't get anybody on the NHS to listen. We had private blood tests which show he has either Hashimotos or Graves and still nobody is interested. I am in despair.

I just got diagnosed with Hashimoto's, my TSH was 86.1 on 10/10/20. I got retested on 10/20/20 and I was on Day 5 of the protocol, my TSH was 44.0. I'm not on any medications. I'll retest again in 5 weeks. Diet matters!
Deanna Morgan. May I ask, which tests have you had done to get that diagnosis. TSH, T4, T3, RT3 ?? Thank you.
10/10/20 they tested my TSH again, this time it was 44.0 (standard range is .4 - 4.2 ulU/mL), TPO antibody tested POSITIVE, T4 was .6 (standard range is .8 - 1.7 ng/dL), T3 was 105 (standard range is 50 - 170 ng/dL). This is from my doctors email to me:
"Your recent lab tests showed no food allergy. Thyroid autoantibody positive, T4 low. You have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. TSH as indicator of final thyroid hormone balance is much better than 10 days ago. Hopefully your thyroid level normalizes without medication."
So like I said in my other 2 comments, my TSH dropped significantly only just starting Dr. Brook Goldner's protocol. I'll retest again in a few more weeks to see how much better it is.
Only 3.5 weeks on the protocol has dropped my TSH like a rock to 7.4! On 11/10/20 without any medications.

My physician took a different approach.
For diagnosis, one should take their temperature each morning upon awakening. Typically, a hypothyroid situation will present with subnormal body temperature. Furthermore, the physician should palpate the thyroid to ascertain if they feel a lump on the thyroid. If yes, get a scan of the nodule to measure it.
Regarding treatment options, it is recommended to consider liothyronine rather than synthroid. I am not a doctor so one should discuss this information with a physician who has expertise with thyroid.

Really interesting informative clear concise information 😊
Good overview but the ending ruined it for me.
No mention of diet or supplements / vitamins to help your body heal itself. The goal should be to get Hashimotos into remission and not require life long medication.
My doc just prescribed me thyroid medicine, but I did a research myself and I found out that I have almost all of the signs and symptoms.
Can low blood pressure/sugar be another symptom?
I have Hashimotos for some good years now and even had to remove half of my thyroid gland. The doctors here in Norway 🇳🇴 don’t treat it at all - they don’t even care to call me in for to check up on me and the other half of my thyroid gland that starts to swallow up for some time now!!
I have most low thyroid symptoms (high cholesterol, weight gain, some degree of hair loss, no motivation ect) I am pretty sure I have undiagnosed hashimoto's, my tsh fluctuates all over the place, last year it was 5.6 this year it was 3.1 however my t4 has always remained in the normal range (1.4ng/dl).
The issue is here in the uk doctors only check tsh and t4 not t3(unless t4 is low) or antibodies, so as long as the tsh and t4 are within normal limits that's the end of the matter! But here's the thing even when tsh exceed 4.5 they don't treat your thyroid until tsh goes above 10!, doctors here say stupid things like "we don't treat your thyroid until tsh exceeds 10 and t4 is low" or "subclinical hypothyroidism often fixes itself" "if your t4 is normal then so is your t3 so we don't check t3 in this case" meanwhile I am suffering all the negative affects from a dysfunctional thyroid which I have absolutely no idea how to fix, I am tempted to start low dose levothyroxine but am worried about increased blood sugar levels so I'm pretty much stuck.
UK doctors in my experience are completely backward thinking and useless!

Hi Maria..have you had your vitamin b12 levels checked
Pernicious anemia is severe vitamin B12 deficiency. I currently take 137mcg of levothyroxine.
Ty 😃 for sharing ❣️
I sweat like I’ve been on a sauna !!! Thx thyroids 😘
Can it be hypothyroidism if you only have about two to three symptoms?
All thanks to Dr iyaremoses on CZcams for curing me permanently from hypothyroidism with herbal medication..
could have said something about gluten
Explained with a lack of compassion, as displayed by most doctors. Way to go!
After a long time of diagnosed with hyperthyroidism I got cured with the help of Dr Oyalo remedy whom I met on channel, and now I’m completely cured and free.

Today i got diagnosed with Hashimotos disease i didn't deserve it
All thanks to Dr iyaremoses on CZcams for curing me permanently from hypothyroidism with herbal medication..
I have a weird tsh response to my diet.
Despite being GF, lactose intollerance and fructose intollerance ( celiac disease) I have noticed thst even a meal with soya, rice trigger my hypothyroidism.
I am doing some fasting because i need to go through a colonoscopy and a capsule endoscopy ( once again for my gastroparesis).
My tsh last time went from 7 to 1.
May I trigger hyperthyroidism ?
Negative antibodies, normal t3 and t4.
Thank you.
So, I have vitiligo and I'm gaining weight and losing hair, could it be hashimoto ?

No annie le i havenot tried please suggest me herbal tips i will definately follow tqs for ur suggestion
No u can have vaccine actually instead of many problems with the suggestion of ur family doctor u can get vaccination
The best way to really treat it would be to get rid of the antibodies.
Yes, immunosuppressive medications
@@denisdaly1708 you don't have to take that. I found two ways to lower the TPO antibodies. First remove the culprit that is driving up the antibodies and for me it was dairy products. I found this out through testing myself. Secondly, vitamin D3 regulates the immune system. I take 20,000 I.U.s per day for myself. I am losing an average of four TPO antibodies per week. At the end of next month, my TPO antibodies will be within lab range and autoimmune attack will be stopped.
@@MrsKunis How can I know what causes it like for you the dairy products how did you test yourself
@@MrsKunis hi bro, for my mom tsh is 13 and anti TG is 41.. could u pls wat step to take naturally or some.soultion pls.. she s suffering a lot due to more weight 140kg in age 52
@@KidsandKitchen7 hi, I would say for her to eat a natural food diet. Get rid of the man made processed foods. Drink water, eat fruits and vegetables, some meat but should be broiled. No butter, milk, cheese, yogurt. Nothing dairy. Milk has casein in it.. I think casein is the cause for my TPO antibodies rising.
Cut out flour products, oils, and sugar. Eat foods made by natural. Have her TPO (Thyroid Perioxidase) antibodies tested to know where she is at with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I averaged a loss of TPO between 5 to 13 per month. It really has to do with what food we put in our bodies. Mine was dairy. I consume almond milk now. Dairy absolutely made my TPO antibodies go up and it went down when I removed it.
Great info
Giving levothyroxine i think is not treatment but a symptomatic approach?? Why can't we give immunosuppression drug like Tacrolimus Or any other immunosuppression
I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism Hashimoto I was only 32 years old but I have heard of This disease for 65 years old and above from the previous video that I was watching I’m just wondering why me I’m not 65 years old and I have been living with this awful infection
Neither of these say why my thyroid goes hi and low fighting back and making me utterly miserable.
Medication makes it worse because it over-treats when it goes the opposite direction. It also increases the rate at which it happens. So like some very messed up pendulum where instead of help the medication kicks it into gear.
I love your videos. They're really well explained. I wish my professors explained stuff like this as thoroughly as you do.
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in 2017. Interestingly enough, my doctor at the time made that diagnosis based despite having high T3 and a TSH on the lower range. She never ordered a TPO test, so I'm wondering how she jumped to that conclusion.
After a long time of diagnosed with hyperthyroidism I got cured with the help of Dr Oyalo remedy whom I met on channel, and now I’m completely cured and free.
Compensatory mechanism … main hormone is T4
Writing from Canada I have had a lot about Dr iyaremoses on CZcams channel herbs medication that it has helped a lot of people get rid of hypothyroidism in just 21days.
I am completely lost among doctors who tries to help me :
my T3 is 98.3 ng/dl .... T4 is 6.9 ug/dl aaaand TSH is 9.8 ulu/ml
!!!!!!!
some see I must take Levothyroxine 50 and some don't .
Please help me 😔
I'm 65 years old and suffer from Heart disease.
Thank you
Nice info. Tq
I have also ..and I am just 19 years .. and also have sensoneurinal hearing loss ..😣
Thank you!!!!
I have dead normal T3,T4 and TSH. But I show 9 and 2 on the two antibodies. My thyroid has many nodules. Is this Hashimotos?
Dawn Sylvester You don’t know what you’re talking about, I’m not on meds. I take D3 because I tested deficient and with the supplement it’s normal. I have type 2 diabetes which I’m controlling thru diet alone. A1c down to 5.8 and still improving. No thyroid meds. But don’t know why I have nodules and antibodies.
@@clairestevens3194 Get your selenium (2-3 Brazil nuts per day) and iodine (24 iodine urine test) checked. Selenium is supposed to help lower antibodies. The thyroid needs both iodine and selenium.
BriAnime’s World Thanks, I’ve been doing both for several months now and probably should test soon. I didn’t even know about Brazil nuts prior to going to a nutritionist. I wish doctors were experienced in this sort of thing.
@@clairestevens3194 It would be wise to read "The Iodine Crisis" by Lynne Farrows. There is an iodine protocol at the end of the book you should follow. There are other vitamins you should take, plus salt load. Have you had vitamin D3 tested?. Mine was found to be low (21), last year. My most recent labs had my TPO lowered from 400 to 107 in 3 years. Thyroglobulin had lowered to normal ranges sometime from April 2017 to May 2019 (testing hadn't been done in that time). I've been on the iodine protocol for a year. Today, I wrote this long post on my private Facebook page regarding my lab work from last week and Lynne Farrow (author of The Iodine Crisis) commented, "low vitamin D3 will aggravate antibodies when iodine is added, but when the vitamin D normalizes, the iodine can make you thrive. The antibodies will drop and other markers normalize". I forgot she was on my friends list. I stopped taking Levothyroxine (25mcg) in Feb and my doctor is trying to get me back on it; something I don't plan on doing.
cossie Why?
Possible triggers, tick born bacteria, exposed to viruses such as mumps or vaccine as an adult which is two factors against me at mid 50s point in my life. Otherwise I’m relatively healthy. Don’t smoke, drink or drugs. Been treated for tick born borrelia type bacteria, not sure the exact name but 3 weeks after being bitten I had a feather and a rash with swelling where I got bit even those the tick was on me less then 8 hours. I was given doxycycline for 3 weeks back 2018. So now I’m dealing with low thyroid and that is the only thing I can think of other than Covid vaccination to which I have 3 mRNA Moderna.
I have Hyperthyroidism with Hashimoto's Tyroiditis
reach out to dr isibor on youtube for cure
How do you know if you have hypothyroidism or hashimoto disease?
You go to the doctor and they do lab work.
the positive TPO antibodies will diagnose the hashimoto's. Hypothyroidism has many causes, including hashimoto's, and will show on lab test low THormones. and high TSH
What effect long term does RAI treatment have on thyroid conditions. I had Graves and had RAI and now go from hypo to hyper and thyroxine does has to be changed.
After a long time of diagnosed with hyperthyroidism I got cured with the help of Dr Oyalo remedy whom I met on channel, and now I’m completely cured and free.
What if I have normal TPO and high Thyroglobulin ab?
Hey! It's of great pleasure i'm Given out this speech. While i was infected with thyroid the only thing I have to do was to go online to search for help and I get Dr alieaotor on CZcams channel he is a good doctor
the Aquacure AC50 device reverses-fixes this issue.
Really talented. You have lots of knowledge
Great video because I thought I’d need to increase iodine foods not lower them
You failed to mention two very important risks: gluten and Epstein Barr'
Right
Don't forget glyphosate (aka roundup)
EBV is very important, but becoming more prevelant is....Lyme Disease
I heard people saying that the gluten issue is not the same for everyone. There’s people that went for gluten free and still feel bad sometimes. 🤷🏻♀️
H Pylori, that’s another one he forgot to mention
Just got diagnosed with this..
I have ehlers danlos, POTS, dystautonomia , gastroproisis , malabsorption, kyphosis, seizures… ect.
Yoooooo, I have EDS, POTS and Hashimoto’s too! Wow never thought I’d see someone else like me
I think I just got diagnosed with this
I tried keeping this good news on how God used Dr alieaotor on CZcams, curing me from lupus with his herbal medicine, but my conscience won't allow me but to testify to this great doctor.
Is there any chance tramadol or the vitamin L lysine or biotin could cause a positive test for hashimoto's
No side effects Dr iyaremoses on CZcams channel herbal medicine am completely heal from hypothyroidism..
@Layla Are you a patient too??
So what percentage of patients actually feel better long term after meds for adding T4? Or do they always have to also adjust their diet?
Writing from Canada I have had a lot about Dr iyaremoses on CZcams channel herbs medication that it has helped a lot of people get rid of hypothyroidism in just 21days.

For my fellow Hashimoto patients (muh Hashi-Hos), do not take vitamins with biotin in it as this can directly effect your thyroid numbers on tests.
Switch to gluten-free whether you have been told to or not. You will feel an immediate difference in the energy department. Hashimoto's always comes with a secondary auto-immune condition and the #1 one is Celiacs. Best to just nip that in the bud. I also highly recommend cutting out sugar and processed foods as much as humanly possible. I have a sweet tooth, so I know the struggle, but it can be done.
Do not do rigorous exercise until your doctor has you at a therapeutic dose of medication. If you are not taken care of in that department, you can do heart damage. It socks because it makes us put on weight, but you've just got to be patient. General rule of thumb I use? Go until I feel tired and do things like walking or cycling. Gentle exercise you can stop if needed. Water, water, water. Cannot stress how important this is. Adding lemon to it has been shown to have several long-term healthy effects. Plain, flat water.
If there is a TCM practitioner in your area (traditional Chinese medicine), see them. TCM is being proven in study after study to be not only effective, but preventative in many cases. Obviously let your endo know. They may discourage the use of it, but I think Western medicine just needs to stop missing the plot and realize that a combination of the two would be the knock-out punch we're all looking for in many conditions.
Sound healing works. They have just discovered a set of frequencies that kill leukemia in lab mice. There's high hopes for other cancers as well. There are sound frequency healings and binaural beats all over CZcams that can specifically help with symptoms or the condition itself. Even if you don't buy it right now, what does trying it hurt? That's right- nothing. I also recommend reiki for this same reason. There's an excellent channel I use daily called Etta-Arlene. I see I difference in my quality of life whether it's placebo or not. Give it a go!
Most of all: daily affirmations, yall. We are not defined by this, our symptoms, our weight, ect. We are defined by what's on the inside and that stuff is strong. Remember you possess a little bit of the divine within you. Hold that close and never let this get you down. Fight. Fight til you can't fight any longer...and keep fighting even then :P Much love to all of you! ❤️ I'M ROOTING FOR ALL OF US!
I got diagnosed at eleven, yikes
ay me too! gang gang
Same at 12 yrs
i was diagnosed when i was 17 :(
Same
Iodine deficiency can cause issues. Not iodine excess.
it's the anterior pituitary that releases TSH, not the posterior.
Hi Jacek. Yes, the anterior pituitary releases TSH. I mention that in the 'Pathophysiology' slide :)
Never heard of this one before.
Funny considering how it was named
Did you meant immune response or autoimmune?
Writing from Canada I have had a lot about Dr iyaremoses on CZcams channel herbs medication that it has helped a lot of people get rid of hypothyroidism in just 21days.
I was diagnosed at 19
