  • Here we have Ryan Hunt of Hunt's Long Range discussing the Origin action from Bighorn Arms. Answering the question, why would a person choose a custom action over a trued Remington 700 action?
    This custom rifle action is a great choice for the budget minded hunter or competitor who still wants quality components. Please check out Hunt's Long Range!

    Just bought a Defiance Ruckus, not knocking Defiance, I love it, but I want one of these now. You can't beat that price with all those features

    There are some feature difference between the TL3 and the Origin. Notably one is SS the other is chromemoly as mentioned. The TL3 also has an integral lug not a pinned lug and can have AW cuts to run an AW mag versus being limited to AICS cuts like the Origin. Last i checked barrels are not interchangeable between the TL3 and the Origin. From TL3/SR3 to TL3/SR3 yes but i'm almost 100% positive Bighorn noted the barrels cant be swapped from the TL3 to the Origin and vice versa. It's still obviously a great switch barrel system on one platform though and maybe between Origin actions themselves? Idk the answer to that.
    We have one on the way i'm excited to see how my brother likes it.

      Good points Will. I'm fairly impressed with the function and feel of it for the price. I think a .223 trainer on this action is in the cards for me.

    • @5RWill
      @5RWill Před 6 lety +1

      The SR3 i had built for dad is DLC'd it really adds some slickness to these actions. My TL3 is still bare, i'm interested to see how my brothers Origin feels compared to it. I really want a 223 trainer but really don't shoot enough to warrant one, they're just awesome. I shot my friends at a mini-match out to 900yds and had no problem with 75gr ELD M at 3060fps. I've given thought to using cerakote elite this time around but i've DLC'd every custom i've owned and probably will stick with it.

      agree on DLC. I really have to get that done to my Defiance after this season.

      What is DLC?

    • @5RWill
      @5RWill Před 6 lety +1

      Diamond Like Coating also known as Ionbond. It's a vapor deposition coating that is 2 microns thick or so and has one of the highest lubricity coefficients of any coating out there. So, ideal for tight tolerance actions or any custom action really. Its not the best at corrosion resistance but isn't bad either. It is very smooth.

    I've heard rumors about Bighorn actions, but getting information about them is like trying to find bigfoot. I have absolutely no idea what they offer.

    • @PrecisionRifleNetwork
      @PrecisionRifleNetwork  Před 4 lety

      spraynpray changed their name to Zermatt Arms. Maybe search for that?

    • @spraynpray
      @spraynpray Před 4 lety +1

      I checked their website after posting that comment and I'm of the same opinion I was. I have no idea what their actions are. There's no pictures of their bolt or description of the action. I don't know what inlet they use. I don't know what triggers they use. I don't know much at all. I have absolutely no idea why I should be interested in one of their actions nor what they're even offering.

      @@spraynpray From Bighorn's website (Bighornarms.com) "ORIGIN features the same footprint as a Remington Model 700 action to allow for easy installation into most stocks and chassis as well as utilizing the same trigger configuration as a Remington Model 700. ORIGIN is threaded to the same spec as standard Savage small-shank threads allowing for Savage pre-fit barrels as well as the option of the classic shouldered barrel."

      You must be the only one. I’ve had no issues with locating information. Any questions about how people like them, I checked Sniper’s Hide. I don’t see the issue here.

    I’m sure it’s a great action but that thing is way to heavy for me. Defiance anti is the way to go if you care about weight.

  • @JacksonMalcolm
    @JacksonMalcolm Před 5 lety +1

    so if i wanted to do a multi barreled rifle, Im thinking 6.5 creed, .223 and 7 saum. can just use shouldered barrels w/out a barrel nut and touque them down and be good to go? just need an action vise, barrel vice and tourque rench?

    How is that a control feed action? It looks like a push feed

    • @Archfile375
      @Archfile375 Před 3 lety +1

      Agreed, there are a bunch of actions out there that have some mild captive cartridge solutions that are claiming 'controlled round feed', Sako 85s for one, this type of solution is a midway between CRF and PF -- not a bad thing, just not what its sold as in my opinion.

      ShotOver Got an answer for you. Gunsmith said it would have to be a special order, but it is doable. Something about a combo that could be used for multiple calibers. That’s all I got.

    • @shotover7719
      @shotover7719 Před 6 lety +1

      Precision Rifle Network just trying to find a quality action for my build rather than using a plain Jane Rem 700 action. My smith knows how and what to do. I'll ask him if he can modify this one or not.

      BRG, I'd say it looks like a KRG Bravo to me... about $425 retail, I think. Cheapest chassis system available.

    • @matthewgurule2482
      @matthewgurule2482 Před 6 lety +1

      Its definitely a KRG Bravo Chassis. I been looking to put 1 on my Gen2 5R 308Win, but may get it for the Orgin action I pre-ordered back when they released em at SHOT 2018.

    • @matthewgurule2482
      @matthewgurule2482 Před 6 lety

      Also the KRG Bravo comes in 2 dif options for the R700 SA footprint. The 1st is with a stock recoil lug cutout, the 2nd is for an oversized/bigger recoil lug area for guys with a trued R700 that put a larger recoil lug on with new barrel & trued action(like 0.212", .250", .300", .350", & up to .500"). Idk how big the Bravo inlet goes up to but guessing u can put up to a .350" lug in it bcuz many from PRS, Long Range Hunting, to F-Class use 0.242"-0.350" thick lugs, & a stock R700 recoil lug is only .187" thick. For the price its such a better choice than a Magpul hunter with the DBM kit u gotta buy separate lol. The guys I know with 1 like them better than some all aluminum 1s that r in the $550-$675 range!

    still a round-bottom action with no integral recoil lug...................too bad!
