Few weeks ago I buyed an AF 829 MK2 in a very good working condition, some minor scratches. I have polished the dust cover, added some lube for the sub platter, cleaned the whole thing, added aluminum feet. Right now I am waiting for my package to arrive (RCA plugs, grounding terminal) to replace that interconnect cable 🙂 but I love the look of this turntable :)
That 850 is a dang sweet receiver. Get your speaker situation handled and enjoy your vinyl. I have a very nice mid 70s Pioneer PLA45D turntable, I would love to find a 850 or 950 receiver. Thanks for your comment....BB23
Very low price you payed! In Holland they want these, because it's almost a high end masterpiece! I have also an 877 with the gold 412 cartridge, and since yesterday a Jico 412 mkII Stylus, it's a amazing sound! The Philips AF 877 is from late 70's,till '81.... After '81 they stopped with the high quality turn tables... Because Philips invented the CD... Please put a Philips cartridge on it, and keep the turntable. Sorry for my bad englisch, akd greetings from Holland!
I found á 877 a few weeks ago while cleaning out my parents shed, my dad must have bought it years ago, never said anything about it so I was surprised, he past away 8 years a go, so nice memory, only a replacement heatshell for more modern elements are almost impossible to find, i''am Dutch also 😁
Phonobox s2....)
I saw your first unedited comment. The reason I posted a few of these videos was to show that if you keep an eye for this stuff, it can be had. At times its just pure luck. Happy hunting....BB23
Just watched your video. I have one of these as the original owner. Still love it but have one problem. Hoping you know how to fix. The tonearm dampening feature doesn't work and I've been afraid to fool with trying to fix without knowing what I'm doing. Do you or anyone else out there have any knowledge on this? Thanks!
Did you ever replace the cartridge with the AT 95 E? If yes, how did it sound? I inherited an 877 from a friend several weeks ago.It has the original OEM cartridge and stylus. Everything works except for stylus force gauge on the unit. Any ideas how I might fix short of taking it apart? I have no idea where it is set. The round anti skating dial is set at 1.5. Maybe I will need to but an inexpensive styles force gauge to dial it in. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. Ron Foss
I did not put a new cart on the 877, I sold it this last July. yea I would just set up the tone arm old school style, Level out the arm, set the weight to zero, then rotate the weight to 1 1/2 G, set the anti skate dial to 1.5 ... this should get you there.
@@breakerbroke23 Thanks for the response. The 877 went completely dead several days ago. Can't see spending any additional money on this guy.Leaning towards purchasing a Fluance table in a few weeks. Ron
BB23 ... I'll give you double what you paid for! (^_^) Sure do like it. Thank you sir. EDIT: BTW, do you know why some (777 & 877) have a kind of sensor (transparent short tube [plastic]) on the 'SW' corner of the top of the table? That is, up and over where the PHILIPS white logo is. I've seen some with this and some without, like yours; I prefer this type because it seems less gimmicky or complicated. Again, much obliged. I appreciate your time. God bless.
@@breakerbroke23 I still have this pick up and still use it.Only once or two times a new needle.Than was the average price around €200,-. The quality is good. Not the basic head 400 (for the standard, cheapest Philips Hifi pick-ups) but 401. The most pick-ups now showed in the media shops have a lower quality than this Phililps 877 one.Think on the nowadays first series of Lenco,Akai or Sony. Especially is the speed of the 877 correct!
I wonder if you help me with my Philips "677" Direct Control turntable. It was my brothers and after 40 years I brought down from the attic and cleaned it up. After plugging in I realized there is no "On/Off" switch! I can't turn it on. Any idea where or how it turns on?
First you need a Stereo receiver or pre amplifier that has a phono input. You will hook your speakers up to the receivers speaker output jacks. If your receiver (stereo) does not have a phono input you will need a phono pre-amp, you hook the TT to that then the phono pre-amp into an AUX or CD input to the receiver. hope this helps
Nice find, very unusual $10 bucks a steal

It turns on when you move the Tone Arm towards the record
Did anyone notice the spider at 3:30 in the down left corner underneath the turntable :)
You have a very good eye
where can you buy that belt?
Look on eBay
