Here is what I think; if cundy is right then the rest of the league is garbage, because an average team is sitting in 2nd place. If he is wrong then one can point at players like pogba, marcus, shaw, spider as examples of excellent players who are holding the team down with their form (overall) this season.
Cundy is right, the league table can lie, look at when Man United came 2nd with Mourinho and Jose said it was his greatest ever achievement as a manager, why did he say that? Because the team wasn’t good enough to come 2nd and everyone knew it, hence why he got sacked not long after. If you’re the kind of person who just says “they’re the 2nd best team because they’re 2nd” then you’re clearly extremely close minded, that’s not how football or even sport in general works. Look at Goran Ivanisevic won Wimbledon despite not being ranked in the top 100 players, look at Liverpool winning the CL in 2005, look Buster Douglas KOing Mike Tyson, sport is not laid out perfectly, upsets happen, teams who deserve to win can lose, teams who deserve to lose can win, and thinking that everything is all linear and simple is incredibly dumbfounded.
In a one off game anything can happen. Even in a 2 legged tie. But over 27 games the league table doesn’t lie. That’s why no one can say a team fluked winning the league

Ole has been in three semi- finals in just two seasons. It us a building process. His first full season they ended third and thus season they will get second place. It took Sir Alex 6 years before he won the first of 13 titles. It took Klopp five years before he won the league. Ole will be successful at United.

I'm a united fan, Andy is terrible papering over gaping holes with our league position. We have only played 3/4 good games this season. Our centre back partnership is relegation fodder, our midfielders barring pogba and Donny wouldn't get in the Newcastle team matic is finished and Fred and mctominey can't move the ball quick enough. Our wingers are strikers playing on the wings they hardly ever put a ball in the box, our strikers only get 1 chance a game, if they miss it that's it for the game. And tactically it's been shocking sitting deep with 2 CDMS sat right in front full backs tucking in massive gap from defence to Bruno and people wonder why Bruno has bad games there's no service to him, he was going to get the ball of the keeper last night because he was sick of waiting for Harry, matic and Fred to take 5 mins to get it to the half way line.

Goldstein’s argument is flawed. Saying that league table is a factual way of measuring how good a squad is is nonsense. By that logic you’re saying Leicester were had the best squad in the EPL in 15/16. Teams can over perform and teams can underperform. Spurs had a much better side than Leicester that season they just bottled the league.
Bit messy, but for clarification Cundy is trying to say that United can’t be the second best team in England if they’re so reliant on one player, whereas Liverpool have their front three, City have Aguero Sterling Mahrez Foden etc. Leicester have Vardy Maddison Barnes etc. Basically saying how can you be the second best team in England if you’re only reliant on one player? As a Liverpool fan I can draw comparisons to 13/14. We weren’t the best team or second best team. People tipped Chelsea to win the league because at the time they were behind us and City were 3rd. It ended up finishing City Liverpool Chelsea. We were heavily reliant on Suarez. I think Cundy was spot on here

I’m a United fan, but I agree with Cundy for once. In January United were too of the league. People were saying “they’ve won six in a row, can they challenge for the title”. My thoughts were that they are so inconsistent, they could lose 5 in a row. Didn’t quite go like that, but they only won something like 3 in 9.
You can’t make the analogy with Messi. When he was at his peak you’d say “without Messi, Barcelona might not win the Champions League”. You’d never say “if Messi doesn’t play at his best, they won’t beat Sheffield United”.

I get his point, not many teams can afford many world class players like city. Bruno is as import as Salah, vardy, Kane, grealish, ronaldo, Messi, lewa...etc are to their teams, one can argue that if u remove their numbers, those teams will be lower in their league table.
As a united fan, I blame all Ole-inners for dropping out of the title race. Ole-inners kept the clueless Ole in the job for longer, and we missed on Poch, Tuchel and we will miss out on others if we keep him.
