Yes diantha wanted to see ash and his greninja's true powers but when saw it she became serious about winning the battle. After seeing greninja new form , diantha started battling seriously you can see her expressions dude. If ash knew how to control it properly and wouldn't have exhausted then definitely they would have won the match. After greninja's water shuriken attack gardevoir wasnt even able to stand properly as she received double damage , 1 from that giant water shuriken and other after getting hit by a tree.
Greninja's cut could have finished gardevoir there itself but only if ash didnt exhaust.

Alain's charizard had Blast Burn,Flamethrower, Dragon Claw and Thunder punch while Greninja was mostly using moves like Cut, Pound and Double team. His upper hand was water shuriken but that was his only water type attack after water pulse . Talk about better moveset and mega evolutionary battle experience, alain's charizard was way ahead than ash's Greninja . Alain had mega charizard when ash didnt even had froakie and you can know this mega evolution act 1 episode when mairin met alain for the first time and talked about ash saving lumious city by calming raged Garchomp and saving pikachu. So the power levels of charizard, his moveset and experience were quite high compared to greninja though. It's still a shame for him, I get it .
