    Didache
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Didache (pron.: /ˈdɪdəkiː/; Koine Greek: Διδαχή) or The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles (Didachē means "Teaching") is a brief early Christian treatise, dated by most scholars to the late first or early 2nd century. But J.A.T. Robinson argues that it is first generation, dating it c. A.D.40-60. The first line of this treatise is "Teaching of the Lord to the Gentiles (or Nations) by the Twelve Apostles"
The text, parts of which constitute the oldest surviving written catechism, has three main sections dealing with Christian ethics, rituals such as baptism and Eucharist, and Church organization. It is considered the first example of the genre of the Church Orders.
The work was considered by some of the Church Fathers as part of the New Testament but rejected as spurious or non-canonical by others, eventually not accepted into the New Testament canon. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church "broader canon" includes the Didascalia, a work which draws on the Didache.
Most scholars place the Didache at some point during the mid to late first century. It is an anonymous work, a pastoral manual "that reveals more about how Jewish-Christians saw themselves and how they adapted their Judaism for gentiles than any other book in the Christian Scriptures."
Hitchcock and Brown produced the first English translation in March 1884. Harnack produced the first German translation in 1884, and Sabatier the first translation and commentary in 1885. Lost for centuries, a Greek manuscript of the Didache was rediscovered in 1873 by Philotheos Bryennios, Metropolitan of Nicomedia in the Codex Hierosolymitanus. A Latin version of the first five chapters was discovered in 1900 by J. Schlecht. The Didache is considered part of the category of second-generation Christian writings known as the Apostolic Fathers.
he Didache is mentioned by Eusebius (c. 324) as the Teachings of the Apostles following the books recognized as canonical: "Let there be placed among the spurious works the Acts of Paul, the so-called Shepherd and the Apocalypse of Peter, and besides these the Epistle of Barnabas, and what are called the Teachings of the Apostles, and also the Apocalypse of John, if this be thought proper; for as I wrote before, some reject it, and others place it in the canon."
    Contents
The contents may be divided into four parts, which most scholars agree were combined from separate sources by a later redactor: the first is the Two Ways, the Way of Life and the Way of Death (chapters 1-6); the second part is a ritual dealing with baptism, fasting, and Communion (chapters 7-10); the third speaks of the ministry and how to deal with traveling prophets (chapters 11-15); and the final section (chapter 16) is a brief apocalypse.

@denari z In Chapter 14 it states "Assemble on the Lord's Day". It does not mention Sunday, which would be the "First day of the week". So, readings of Didache, put Of Sunday Worship there is no reason to put that there.
If you put the word's literally, then it woud read: 'on the Lord's [day] of the Lord'.
There is no noun here, Kyriake is an adjective derived from Kyrios, which means Lord.
You may have noticed: that the thanksgiving prayers are very closely related to the Jewish forms of grace being given at the table. Also, there is NO mention in, the Didache, of the 'Last Supper' or the 'Cross of Christ'. So, the 'breaking of bread' here is a fellowship meal in anticipation of Jesus' quick return to earth. Later the 'breaking of bread' became the eucharistic in anticipation of Jesus eventually returning - as in the services today.
As to the date of the Didache, some say 50AD to 150AD. That is to wide ranging!
The continued existence of travelling apostles and prophets alongside a resident ministry reflect a time closer to Paul, Peter and James (who all died in the 60s) than lets say Ignatius (who died about 110AD). I was allways told it was written in 85AD, but it could be earlier than that date.
      I hope this helps.

"For as many as are of God and of Jesus Christ are also with the bishop. And as many as shall, in the exercise of penance, return into the unity of the Church, these, too, shall belong to God, that they may live according to Jesus Christ" (Letter to the Philadelphians 3 [A.D. 110]).

Whenever reading these apocrypha texts, knowing they are typically disregarded outside of some orthodox churches, I always think of two scriptures with respect to how to treat them; Galatians 1:7 and 1 Corinthians 9:18. This particular one especially supports the gospel, as oppose to "perverting" it, down to the detailed instructions on self baptisms. Some of these apocrypha texts would probably be better served as sermons.

I think about the way in which it condemns abortions, and even though in parables he is speaking of the early elect of God's church, how many children have been murdered because greedy people hated this teaching. Indeed, the Church has traveled headlong down the Way of Darkness as this book witnesses. God bless you for your pure heart & knowledge.

I first heard of this work some 12 yrs ago. I don't see anything wrong with it. For the most part, it restates what is already in the NT, it elaborates on certain things and it adds how to treat traveling prophets. I can understand where that became necessary especially if 1 came, didn't leave, didn't work and he wanted the people to support him. I think that had started early which is why Paul said if a man won't work neither shall he eat.
I think we have this problem again only today these false prophets want glory as much as money. And today they take the form of traveling ministers who collect gifts in the churches they visit only to then leave. I never saw most of them again.
I don't think this is an inspired work so it shouldn't be part of the Bible but neither is it against the Bible.

CH 10 translators chose to translate *παίς* as servant, which some writings it is that, but the root means child, descendent... and in some writings, it means someone's child. So just as the LXX in Isaiah 52:12 has this word, it should be thought as both servant and child, just like here where the prayer is thanking the Father for his child and servant to have saved us.

This was obviously written *before* the day of "PENTECOST" in the Upper Room by a Sadducee or Pharisee.

How would that have been possible? Pentecost happened so soon after the cross (on the 50th day after, to be exact).

Pharisee's and Sadducee's were beholden to money. That was their God, according to the words and testimony of Yeshua/Jesus Christ, which is why they could not judge righteously, as the 'log' in their eye was an idol, which is what Idol's were made from. Their log/idol was money and it kept them from ruling with mercy and justice, and caused them to be 'hypocrites' which has a severe penalty in death because they had the Way of God and left it for material/beastly desires. They did not teach to not accept money, as they sought out ways to 'receive' more money, which this scriptures firmly speaks to, and is one of the reasons Jesus tells us about the 'marketplace' set up in the Temple of God. Peace.

So jesus (peace be upon him) is referred to as servant of god? Basically what we all are to our creator.. Interesting. So no trinity doctrine supported here. As it should be our creator is alone with no partners. Islam is the truth.

Kadhim1. lost books of the old testament proofs that islam is false about JESUS.

4)testament of simeon2:13 there simeon said he read the book of enoch. And in 3:5-11 there also on his death bed, simeon prophesied to his children that the GOD of israel will appear upon the earth as a human being and that he will save adam and that he will eat with human beings and save human beings . read them for free on google.

Yes, it is true Jesus is called "Jesus, your servant" three times in the Didache.
However, it also says, ""baptize in the name of the Father and if the Son and of the Holy Spirit" twice when talking about Baptism.

Peter Farquharson .. explain this why Jesus (peace be upon him) said don't call me good.. no one is good, but God alone.. in the mark bible. he didn't accept the praise. refer to Psalms old testmeant. because all praise is to the Almighty alone.. clear cut. hope you all let it sink in properly the importance of first commandments their is none besides him..

+kadhim1 = Good question. That is from Mark 10:17-31 It is the story of the rich young man - who sadly was trying to buy his way into heaven. He was trying to flatter Jesus with these words and Jesus saw that, that is why he said these words to him. Jesus spoke of the 10 commandments and told the young man what he lacked and what to do about it. After that the young man left. Jesus then explained to the disciples that you cannot with riches buy your way into heaven. As we can see Jesus was being good by telling him the correct way to heaven.

Wrong. Didache lays out baptism for believers in name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.===> According to Islam your idol demon Allah isn't a Father but a puny and weak leg and has no sons or partners; except his female version crossdressing days as Allat the black stone that looks like a giant female private part Muslims kiss during pagan Hajj. No sir, Islam is very far from the truth.

That's not actually the intent or the meaning, you need to read with discernment and act with discernment, as you have said, who would give all their money to just anyone because they ask? As you have said, and rightly, no one, therefore there is discernment involved, isn't there?

This is some leaven writing right here, truth mixed well with legalistic uninspired opinions of men. We will be held to answer for a gift recieved if we have not need of it? Who believes that is from the holy spirit? Is baptism not immersion? There were so many like this it was like the scribe never heard of proof reading, holes all over the place. Nice upload though for edification purposes.

this goes against nt teaching of drink and meat offerings nailed to his cross . so it's a fraud as Paul said those who crept in and told ppl they had to be circumsized and other issues

So Paul says one thing and the Didache says another. How did you determine which is correct?

    • @SunnycoastKlips

Paul circumcised Timothy himself. The deciding factor is whether or not they were Jewish. Genesis 17, Acts 21 (context: Numbers 6).
