@GarrettCrespo I have a 2008 macbook pro dual core that still going. Several white macbooks and a 2011 macbook pro with 500gb sd and 16gb of ram. I use the dual core for making mp3s and the 2011 runs an old copy of photoshop I use. I certainly think my M1 far superior in performance and use this to sift through my photo archives on thunderbolt nvme drives.
I would recommend downloading MacOS Big Sur on older Macs from 2009 and below as it's more stable. Using patchers and downloading it, it may course some problems on you're machine with any newer software
I have a few of them they still run snow leopard including a silver 2011 macbook pro. I now use an M1 macbook pro but still use the 2011 macbook from time to time.
mine is the early 2009 with 4gb of ram. Yours went to 8gb. I used OCLP to run Mojave. And it runs Apple News +, IG, YT at 480p, Apple TV + and Apple Music just fine. For something I got for free....
I just did this with my wife's abandoned MacBook Pro from 2010. Open Core stated that Monterey was stable for it so that's what I ran it up to. Seems fine but all I use it for is Garage Band.
I couldn't get Sonoma to run on mine because the keyboard and mouse were not being detected in the mac os installer. However I did get mac os big sur to run relatively well on mine. Either way I'm no longer stuck on mac os Catalina.
You need to use a USB 2 spec keyboard and mouse to complete the setup of Sonoma on these older Mac’s. Once that’s done, the installer patches in the drivers for the built in peripherals.
you didnt use Open Core Patcher you usedf Open Core Legacy Patcher OCLP and at this point OCLP is old news and is very well known already by fans of Classic Apple computers
@@GarrettCrespo I'm thinking about use my same plastic 2010 with Yosemite with essential apps + Parallels Windows 10/Light weight LinuxVM as compatibility for modern use. An attempt to get back the efficiency and also make the apps more compatible than HS.
How did you get the integrated keyboard and track pad to work with that white unibody macbook runing sonoma. Because when i was installing it. There was a mouse and keyboard icon flashing and my trackpad and integrated keyboard would not work.
You need to connect a mouse and keyboard via a USB 2.0 hub. That lets you run the configuration tool or re-add the drivers for the integrated keyboard and trackpad.
I just downgraded my 2015 iMac to Catalina because it was struggling with Monterey. I need a new Mac badly. I’m waiting for either the m3 max Mac Studio or an iMac Pro if they make one.
That’s pretty cool! Would be interesting to see a geek bench or something showing if it got faster or is slower. How much ram does it have?
I’m gonna guess slower, but Im probably gonna make a full video about this thing. Also, it has 8gb of 1066mhz DDR3.
It has 16gb of ram more than today's offerings lol
@@frazerweb It has 8GB, but I upgraded it myself from the original 4GB. Imagine that! lol

I have that exact MacBook running mac os Catalina right now. Sonoma on it would be so cool though. I'm going to look into doing this maybe.
I’ll warm you, this was an experiment. It runs, but it is pretty slow despite having an SSD in it

Thanks for the correction. It’s still fun though. I’m working on a video about it
Can we get a review for everyday usage?
Possibly! 🤔

How do I get passed this? I have a usb hub everything is connected but I still see the error
@@GarrettCrespodo I have to download something for the hub to work?
Apple - Planned obsolesce
I mean, the MacBook in that video got 11 years of official support. That’s pretty great by any computer standard. lol
HOW THE HELL IS IT NOT RUNNING AT 1 fps?????!!?!!
It’s surprisingly usable! Not for certain heavier tasks, but it performs about as well as a base model/bargain price Chromebook

Hi
I wonder if that 2009 macbook got a gpu that supported metal would it be faster?
