- Andy Griffith, in an interview with Morning Exchange in 1972, talks about his role in the film, "A Face In The Crowd." He plays a character named Lonesome Rhodes, who is eerily similar to Donald Trump.

If you haven’t seen “A Face in the Crowd” you should, it is Andy Griffiths finest work as an Actor.
so true!
Sid, I've seen this movie, and I have the DVD of this movie - it is truly a shockingly prophetic story.
@@MegaJustGeorge They could make a remake of this film and it would still be relevant, but not as good as the original.
@@rockvilleraven I wholeheartedly agree with you, my friend - any remake of "A Face in the Crowd" would never be as good as the original. and I believe that's because Andy Griffith played the character of Larry "Lonesome" Rhodes so very well.
@@MegaJustGeorge And you can see it it in Andy's facial expressions during this interview - all those aspects of Lonesome Rhode's character. He's the only guy who could ever play him. Just as Angela Lansbury was the only one who could play the mother in the original Manchurian Candidate. Meryl Streep is a hell of an actress, maybe the best ever, but she couldn't come close to Angela in the remake. But Face in the Crowd is such a great story - and, yeah, timely - so I'd be curious to see it just as I was for the Manchurian Candidate remake.
I grew up as a little kid watching Andy , im almost 60 now , I miss you Andy RIP
Was a Young Donald Trump on Andy Griffith ep.14 1st season ? The horse Trader . I watched it but they may have cut it out .

@@puretrashnotforchildren7484 Yeah. He was playing some punk that moved to Mayberry and was getting Opie and his friends in all sorts of trouble. Andy was talking about a character of a politician that he played before the Andy Griffith Show.
Right, it's in the description.

Dude, watch the movie before you comment. I've seen the movie. A few times. And it was a great movie. The character ("Lonesome Rhodes") was NOT a politician. He was a musician. Good grief.
gravy......... I have seen the movie, several times. Trump is Lonesome Rhodes' huckster personality. what do you think we're discussing here? good grief !!
gravy....... you are correct that Rhodes was not a politician but his character was an amalgam of a Pete Seeger, musician, and Will Rogers, social commentator.
One great movie and Andy should be so proud of all the quality projects he's been in and influenced many more like Ron Howard that is also as good as they get. These are the people that make this world a better place.
If I had a nickel for every time he clears his throat, I love Andy Griffith

Every comment in this thread attacking Dems or Gops (while implying support of the other party) is wrong. Both parties defraud and manipulate the people while preserving and expanding corporate ownership of government. The tiny corporate-free wing is the only exception, and the Dem and Gop leaderships BOTH are doing all they can to block and remove those principled few.
He's just the best story teller
This is the Elias Kazan movie, "A Face in the Crowd". What it trying to be stated by Griffith as well as the movie is the danger of the media being used by people. The crowd may follow anyone who promises them the world without question. We as critical thinkers should raise many qustions pertaining to what kind of individuals we admire or even elect into office. I do believe that both Hitler and Mussolini as well as other leaders used the newsreels of their time to persuade "sheeple".
A Face In The Crowd is brilliant, and Andy is really good and scary in it.
I hate deceptive click baiting liars. He's describing a movie he played in called A Face in the Crowd.
I agree with you 100 percent Gary.
I know Trump and I know that great movie. The character in no way resembles Trump; he's a phoney country music good ol' boy liar played by Griffith. Who is the pinhead who puts up titles that are pure BS. You demean Trump AND Andy Griffith.

What were you smoking while you missed at least 3/4 of the movie. No, it's not even close, much less to your idiotic mischaracterization of Trump. That you attempt to equate them says a whole lot about you, as in damn stupid. Go watch cartoons and go back to your safe space.

He was just spinning a tale of a demagogue. It had happened much more recently to the 50s than to our future. He even mentions the inspiration. There others such as radio evangelists, Mussolini, Huey Long for him to draw on in contemporary memory at that point.
Andy Griffith played a true monster in “A Murder In Coweta County” with Johnny Cash. Excellent, chilling performance.
Murder in Coweta County was a really good movie. He played another mean person in Under the Influence which dealt with alcohol and drug addiction.
A Face In The Crowd is a brilliant movie.
Andy was great in that movie. He was more than just Andy of Mayberry. If you've never seen the movie, "A Face In The Crowd" watch it as soon as you can.

A FACE IN THE CROWD told a very good story about someone who lies, who abuses people, and who manipulates others. It was never if, but WHEN, and HOW, Lonesome would get his comeuppance. His immediate and spectacular downfall after a live incident that shocked and enraged so many people was like Will Smith's downfall after his shocking behavior at the Oscars.
Yes, when Will Smith did that slap at the Oscars, oddly I felt a strange loss. I don't feel that way about celebrities. I guess I had an opinion about him that was shattered.
Being interviewed on WEWS Channel 5's Morning Exchange sometime in the 1970's in Cleveland, Ohio!
Just discovered "A Face in the Crowd" and am excited to watch it. This clip only makes me want to watch it more. He is amazing in this clip, being himself - he almost had a Will Farrell vibe there for a minute. I grew up with him, Opie and I are the same age. THANKS for posting!!!!
He didn't predict anything, he was talking about he character he played in the movie, A Face in the Crowd.
I agree, the thumbnail's misleading. It was the script, not the actor, that correctly foresaw how someone like the character Lonesome Rhodes could emerge as a demagogue with frightening power over public opinion.
@ Kevin S & Don Taylor - *Andy Griffith was a very spiritual man. I believe he did predict Donald Trump. Everything he said fits Trump from his inside and out. I also believe Andy was a Democrat. The Lord works in mysterious ways. Jesus was predicted in the old testament. Just like it's been predicted that you will reap what you sow, and that's according to the Book of Obadiah in the Bible. Focus on verse fifteen and learn of your fate. We are living our past directly from the Bible. The Lord has no respect of person. The Lord is the creator of heaven and earth, not man. He is coming back for His Church.*
Psalm 91
And in doing so, predicts Trump.
@@MG-ei7pt No, 100% correct. Oh and BTW, Griffith did a campaign ad for Barack Obama with Ron Howard. Suck on that.

So Obama told us.
I'm going to build a wall
Insurance companies have been dropping and adding doctors to their panels since insurance was invented. There is nothing the ACA did to cause this to happen more or less frequently than it had before. Are you advocating that the government should have exercised MORE control over a private industry?
I’ve seen this movie many times and it’s fantastic. Lonesome Rhodes started out that way,as a manipulator right from the start when he was in jail.
“What do I get out of this? I mean Mr. me,myself and I”. This movie is a powerful tale of how people use and manipulate the public to gain power.
“You’ve got to be a saint to stand up to the power that little box gives you”
That describes a lot of politicians.
The movie reminds me more of how the main stream media outlets and celebrities in Hollywood act towards their spaced out viewers.
A movie worth seeing (even though he gave away the ending). Amazing to see Andy Griffith play a monster so convincingly.
As for the Trump analogy, politics and entertainment began merging a long time ago.
I saw that movie. A Face in the Crowd. He did that movie before he went into television. It’s pretty good.
Funny Andy Griffith play that character is Andy Taylor in Mayberry. Keep in mind nobody in that town was smart enough to fall down a flight of stairs without Andy's pre-approval and consultation. Griffith was a hard left Winger his whole life
