  • There are a lot of rules you’ve got to follow at Disney World.But what about those “unofficial” Disney rules that the pros say you have to follow or else your trip will be a massive failure? Sometimes, rules are meant to be broken.

    Just had a Disney Day at Home yesterday. Wore my Minnie Ears, ate a Mickey ice-cream sandwich, watched Happily Ever After (crying of course) and listened to area loop music and the resort tv. Great staycation since I can't go to the US again yet. Thank you for bringing Disney to my apartment surrounded by noisy construction and constant sirens. You help keep my spirits up.

    Hey, I’m a skyliner cast member and right now there isn’t bus service to Epcot and Hollywood studios from Pop, Caribbean Beach, or Riviera. So if you can’t do heights or just don’t vibe with the skyliner stay at a different resort cause you might end up unhappy when they break the bus news to you.

    My solo WDW was amazing. I did Epcot, then After Hours for Magic Kingdom & Animal Kingdom since I was on a work trip, hung out at Disney Springs, boated over to Port Orleans, splurged on beignets. I felt so giddy. It was glorious. Best alone time EVER. And when FP is back in play, one FP is easier to get than 3, 4+.

    I went solo last February. I took my mom and daughter the previous July, and the whole trip was my daughter's first experience. It was so much fun, but I didn't get to do half of what I would have wanted to. Barely any Epcot. I really wanted to try the sorcerer card game, etc. Plus, Galaxy's Edge wasn't open yet. So, when I went back in February, I got to do all of that. I literally spent 5 hours just walking around GE, marveling at every sight line and little piece of star wars kitsch they packed into the place. My daughter would have been bored out of her mind!! But I loved it! I also spent a whole day just doing the world tour at Epcot with a college buddy of mine. It was a great birthday weekend!

    AJ, you really nailed it with these "rules" you can break! Clinging to people's advice about which rides to ride or which restaurants to eat at can really lead to unnecessary stress and FOMO when such advice is not appropriate for your situation. Enjoying Disney should be about what YOU and YOUR group want to do, not what others say you need to do. Dumbo is a great example. Just because people says it's a "classic", at the end of the day it's jut another friggin' hub and spoke ride that is only "necessary" to wait in line for if YOU want to do it! As someone who likes solo road trips, I think that there are times when traveling solo is the way to go

    Solo WDW is absolutely fun to do. I'm not under any pressure from friends or family on things to do, single rider lines, enter and leave the parks whenever I want, and made new friends at Teppan Edo restaurant in Epcot. Even when it felt lonely at a restaurant, the cast members who served my meals kept me happy, including one I met who I learned was born in the same city as me.

    The souvenirs are usually the things I use the most at home;
    My lounge fly backpack is the number one “purse” I use.
    My husband and I wear at least one of our spirit jerseys every week.
    My two year olds plays with our droid all the time.
    I wear my ears when I feel sad and they are on display at our home.
    Our pins are also on display.

    We get the Delux Dining Plan and on the last day I take any leftover credits and convert to snacks. I get snacks from our hotel shop for our flights home and put the rest in a box to ship home for friend gifts. My friends and their kiddos love it! Not super economical but we like the ease of the Dining Plans (when available) and I make sure to use each and every point 😉

I'm totally OK with skipping the fireworks, having a pool day instead of a park day and buying that really expensive coffee mug with my beloved Donald Duck on it. I need your help though on letting me know what that snack is (19.04) with the macaroon on top and what looks like butterscotch sauce on it. It looks really yummy and I might have to have it! I totally agree that you don’t have to wake up so early. One thing that’s important to my family is a full breakfast every morning because we never get that at home with work and school. Every Disney trip a big breakfast is part of what we enjoy and we don’t get up so early, usually having breakfast by 9am and out by 10-10:30 am to go to the parks. It’s what is important to us because it’s our trip. Then we may have a snack and a dinner. No lunch.

    Went with the family last month and I gotta say the short time I wasn’t with them was kind of nice. We split up because I wanted to do more rides one day and it was a blast doing it alone. Definitely gonna consider a full trip alone in the future to really do everything I want.

    I love this! I am lucky enough to have grown up in FL so I’ve been to Disney quite a few times. I totally agree that these aren’t always for you all of the time. For example, as a kid I loved the characters so my family and I did character meals and meet and greets.. but now that we are grown we focus more on riding all the exciting rides, and don’t care about characters. I love having a plan when going with a big group that might have a hard time making a decision, but I also love having a spontaneous day with just a friend or two by my side!
