      @@qdaveq6597 If you that works for you , great. I know quite well how hard it is to make a living in music. Some people try to come up with a clever device for a niche market, I can relate I'd like to do that too- if I can't have a hit ( not that I'm even involved in the pop market). I understand wanting to capitalize on an idea. But I don't like price gouging. And I can make something as good in less time than it takes to make 40 bucks- these days that could be a whole gig, including schlepping. If it has legs ,someone will sell one for less.

    I've had the Jamerson set of LaBellas on my '65 P since the day I bought it back in 1998. Okay, so it tweaks the neck a bit - who needs anything past the 14th fret anyway, right? 😂

  • @kongandbasses8732
    @kongandbasses8732 Před 5 lety +1

    My orig. 1964 Precision was able to handle the tension of the Jamerson LaBellas without a problem. But I switched to Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats later because they are much nicer to play.
    The mute is a nice idea. But I had an idea by myself, mixing up the Jamerson and the Carol Kaye methods. I lay the (standard) sponge on top of the strings and secure it with a bit painters tape.
    So I mixed up the taping of the strings of Carol Kaye and the foam mute of James Jamerson - and made sure of a undisturbed intonation.
    Thank you for the new videos, l allways enjoy watching. Keep on what you're doing.

    • @BassWhispererTV
      @BassWhispererTV  Před 5 lety +1

      Well, the nice thing about this, perhaps the best thing... is how quick and easy it is to remove. I won't necessarily use that kind of muting for every song.

    • @kongandbasses8732
      @kongandbasses8732 Před 5 lety

      @@BassWhispererTV I don't use the same muted sound for every song, too. I found a stunning Fender MiM 50's Classic Precision with maple fingerboard, built in 2016. With a Lindy Fralin Classic 50's (60's? Not quite sure...) pickup it became my to go axe for unmuted tone.
      If you just want to carry one bass, the Nordymute is great, handy, easy to use, a good idea.
      I just brought up my method to show another way to avoid intonation problems that occure when you squash foam under your strings.

    • @Snibborwocky
      @Snibborwocky Před 5 lety +1

      @@mildmanneredjanitor0 The problem with the fump is that it if your strings are slightly different heights, the muting is inconsistent from string to string due to the fump sliding in sideways across all the strings. In my case, the E string is way too muted (almost unplayable) and the G string has no muting at all. This Nordymute eliminates all that fuss by sliding down from the top on all strings which just seems more practical to me.
