Hey @luke G , my shiftknob keeps jumping off the shifter (it started falling apart). i’ve replaced it with a new one and this one also keeps jumping off. Am i doing something wrong? Did i fuck up the plastic holding it down or sth? Thanks!
I wish my Clio gear knob came off like this. I had to remove the gear lever turn it upside down put a spanner on the bottom and hit it several times with a hammer to get it off. Then the new one was a nightmare to get on, even after drilling out the hole a little it wouldn’t go on, eventually l resorted to bashing it on with a large hard backed book. And it took about five minutes of hitting with the book to drive it fully home on the lever.
Hi, when you remove the gear knob there was nothing there, but in the video when you go to replace the spring there is a piece of plastic sticking out, can you tell me where this came from as I don’t want to remove and replace if something is going to break or is missing. DonnaRoyce I’m guessing you already found out, but when he pulls it of the gearlever bag (is that a word?) is higher. Push the bag down and you will see the stick come out.
@@Luke_G is there any way to get that white plastic off? i want to switch up the shifter on my smart forfour which has the same system but i probably wont be able to get a non threaded adapter on with that plastic there and i dont want to risk snapping it off
@@ynzevandijk4912 i spoke to my mechanic about it. he said this one is molded onto the shifter itself so you CAN get it off but the only way is to snap it off. unfortunately im trying to keep all of my mods as revertable as possible for now so im probably going to leave it stock. i found a non threaded shifter adapter which clamps onto the shift stick but it requires some modification to the adapter as the inner diameter is too small to fit around the white plastic
Can it f#ck be pulled off!!! . Ive tried for about a hour now. Clearly your clips holding your old one were broken no way you could pull it off that easy
Keep at it, they come off eventually. I’ve done this on five or six cars now and only had one of them put up a fight. Must just be luck of the draw 🤷🏻♂️
Found this really helpful. It takes a lot of force to remove and I doubt I would have tried without seeing this video.

That gear knob doesn't just come off as shown,you'd probably have had a double hernia before it saw the light of day.

DonnaRoyce Yes that’s the case, it’s part of the gear lever, but the leather surround was concealing it in the first shot! ☺️
