Genre: Electronic
Style: Abstract, Techno, Experimental - Hudba
I was on acid and witnessed this performed live for 5000 people at the NY Colosseum in Manhattan in 1994. He was headlining along with Aphex Twin, Moby and Orbital. It was complete pandemonium! In the history of electronic music that would be equatable to seeing Jimi Hendrix headline with Cream, the Stones and The Doors. If I am alive by the time they create the holodeck I will go back to that exact moment. 👽
nice one man.
You can't say fairer than that, what a lovely story
Wow crazy line-up
He actually wasn't headlining. Headliners are listed first and play last, which was Aphex Twin on that tour package. But it was definitely memorable.

pedant (noun)
ped·ant ˈpe-dᵊnt
a: one who is unimaginative or who unduly emphasizes minutiae in the presentation or use of knowledge
b: a person who is excessively concerned with minor details and rules or with displaying academic learning.
c: one who corrects the language of others.
d: something uncool people do.
It was , i think, 1995 or so when i searched for this record and couldn't find it.There was a record store who bought old record and sold them again. I asked if they had this record. They said, " No, but we can put you on a the list, when we get it we call you". I said ok and left.. 4 or 5 years later when i totally forgot about it, someone called me; "We have a record for you". I was like, huh, which record, i could not remember the title, but i went there to get the record. When i got home and listened to the record i realised it was this one!!. I was soooo happy! :)
Man, this song and your post just made my day ! Big smile ... haha
Enjoy
Karma never forgets you....
Great story
Quality comment. Just discovered this today!
@@shakul104 Non-existent concepts are incapable of memory. Or existence.
I count myself as one of the lucky people who got to listen to this in the OMEN Frankfurt in like '94 or sth. Darkness, smoke, sweat, everyone shirtless and high as fuck. Magical
indeed
25 years later this is still a huge record.
One of the most Epic techno track of all time
It's been emotional. When I here this, and other classic tunes from this era makes me feel like F* crying. Never got over it all :-)
True story my friend. Best era ever
My mate copied this onto a tape for me as he thought I was listening to too much 'simple' rave in 93 94? . Put this on the cassette in my old Nissan Micra driving across some misty moors on the way back from a funeral in Glasgow to Derby. Went apeshit. Had to stop the car and share the experience with the emptiness. Awe inspiring!

Noice! 😄
Who died???
almost 48 years old ... In love when i heard it for the first time .... timeless
49 now, got the original.
This track changed my life.
word
Really?
Fuck yeah...
The best 5 minutes and 9 seconds intro ... ever! Patience is truly a virtue.
Was treated to this in Space, Ibiza, in the early 90s, at about 10am, after a hard night in Ku. The whole place was pitch black - apart from the strobing roof - with this masterpiece clicking, soaring and throbbing away in the background as glowing silhouettes waved all around. Happy daze.
Space for ever
sounds like a happy place
@@toned.2940 You bet!

@@hal9thou001 Was a fantastic decade to be alive for sure.
I was lucky to be 22 in 1987 when all this started . A friend of mine, who's parents had a big ass club, asked me if I wanted to join him at the dj booth, as a Licht Jockey. I said yes, and from that moment on, my life changed. Every friday, every saturday and every sunday evening I worked there from early in the evening till 8 or 9 in the morning. We had no closing hours, as only country in the world, I think. Monday mornings, after closing our club, we went home, refreshed ourselves and went out, clubbing. I kid you not. I lived this life for over 20 years and boy, the things I experienced, I could whrite a few books about it. If there's a god, I would like to say to him; thank you Lord, for all these fine moments.
@a w Belgium it was. Club scene nowadays is dead and buried. Last year one of the best clubs in Europe, La Rocca near Antwerp, closed it doors as one of the last epic clubs. Glad I was there from the beginning. I salute you
@a w watch The Sound Of Belgium, a documentary about our scene. It's on the net. A must see. No shit

Funny story: the name was supposed to be "Gravitational arch of Io". As in "io" the innermost of the four Galilean moons of Jupiter.
Not sure what the deal with its gravitational arch is, but one thing is for sure, Richie Hawtin (boss behind Plus 8 records) read the name wrong and the rest is history. I have this stomper on vinyl, wax rules.
earth is flat and stationary there is no universe
makes cents
That's right! Please read my comment above.... Just because Richie is stupid and ignorant(put aside his musical and DJ ing skills) the whole world misspells this title.
It should have been "Gravitational Arc of Io", and Mark took the name from a line in the Carl Sagan tv series "Cosmos".
Gravitational Arc Of Io. As in the bending of a trajectory due to gravity of a large stellar object.
Back in a time where techno music in general was so much simpler and was not just about the latest plugins and the most loud compressor to use, but pure composition, vibe and atmosphere were the goal.
I saw him playing this live at The Arches in Glasgow in 1994. He was sitting on the stage with synths and drum machines on the floor around him. Fantastic night!
+Albert Jr That was the same year - you're a lucky man going to the first ever SONAR!
I saw him too on that tour here in Copenhagen in autumn 1994! I also remember him sitting on the stage with his machines around him. It was an amazing concert!
@@cph2400 The week before I saw a new up and coming act called The Dust Brothers at The Arches. This was before the lawyers (from the original Dust Brothers in New York) got involved and they changed their name to The Chemical Brothers!
@@williamking9510 nice catch!
Not sure if it was during that same trip but I saw him at Pure at Barrowlands. After his set I spoke with him for a while. Lovely guy. He told me that the day he wrote this track there was a snowstorm going on outside. Whenever I listen to it now, I close my eyes and see the swirling snow.
Always, every single time I hear this track, I get goosebumps. It’s legendary!
Me to
same shit
Huge banger during first months of Fuse Brussels, legendary place!
Man, this takes me back! Lost, looking for love, looking for redemption, looking for meaning, wandering the mad nights, and then bang. This tune hits. Glorious.
Always special when it was dropped at the Orbit Morley! Still gives me goosebumps! Great days and even greater music.
I miss that place so much. The first time I went in 1991 Joey Beltram was at the controls and it immediately became my favourite club 👌🏻
Orbit was the Omen of England. Best years of my life. Sven, AFX, the birthday party was epic. Just pure tunes. 😊😊😊
Trekked over to Orbit, Morley in the early 1990s to experience Sven Vath, in an overloaded Ford Fiesta.
Wandered in, and in between the blurred eyes and smoke, we were slightly surprised to see something banging drums in cages and several MC's chanting, then this masterpiece began, and rolled around the deck at 200dB for 10 minutes.
Such moments are forever gravitated into your brain.
I've had a built-in love of electronic music that was first triggered by Tubeway Army's "Are Friends Electric" when I was 5 years old. This is my favourite piece of music, full-stop
I second that!
I love electronic music as well but do not feel it is as accomplished as instrumental music nor do I feel it is as deep.
But I still love electronic music.
First experienced love parade 1996. Sven Väth ripped it off the wagon near Tresor. Sunny morning days..
I was there ✌️😎
This really is an exceptional piece of music. The production is incredible if compared to many other tracks of that time. Rich, wide and heavy. Beautiful.
back in '93: Me and my friend took some Acid 1 hour ago... standing on the Dancefloor.... listened to this special stuff.... blowing mind.... big eyes.... big ears.... biggest smile.... fantastic sound!!! Thanx for uploading, thanx for remember a very special moment in my life! :-)
hell yeah...awesome memory...incredible piece of techno

Will wie ever... A cosmogen...
Oh how I miss the 90's!
Agree. 👌
Danced to this in the hacienda in Manchester on Friday night “shine” in 1993, (i think!) it was mind blowing!
Modern producers can learn from this tune, especially the dynamic range of the track. there is a beautiful mix of quiet here. meanwhile all new music is competing to be the loudest tune in the club. the quite is what really draws me into this track. when finally it open up I'm lit.
The orbit, morley, leeds nuff said.
nuff said indeed
Enough said
innit. saw CJ Bolland there in 93.
100%
Original and best version ever. This is what electronic music is all about.
Whaou !!! La claque
Absolutely
Yes, definitely. I listened to all the remixes and none were as good as this. I remember hearing it on John Peel and was at my record store the next day preordering it on import. Cost a fortune but I didn't care. I just had to have it. Still one of my favourite 12 inches to this day.
agree
The live swiss remix has something very special about it (it's not worth ranking them imo)
Back when trance was just the hippie age of love close relative from techno, food for the body and soul!!!!!
I love this definition... the ONLY trance.
OMEN Frankfurt. The master himself on the decks. Crowded floor. Nothing but sweat and pure xtc in the air. Best times ever had ♥️
best vinyl ever
masterpiece
When i was researching records playing backwards, (what a joke btw) i discovered the first two minutes of this awesome track sounds exacly the same as forwards..... awesome production...
Geile Zeit damals - unzerstörbar - ewig in Erinnerung! Rave on!
Saw MArk play this live in Club UK in 1994. The intro left a room of a very lost ravers, looking for some measure of a beat and when the sirens started climbing, smiles started appearing. by the time that first kick drum 'kicked in' the place synchronised. It was, and is, magic!!
Saw vapourspace live in 1995 or 95 at PURE in glasgow at the barrowlands still gets the goosebumps going that siren with a decent Ecstasy grest memories 😎👌⚪💚
Just a note: It's actually "Gravitational Arch of Io", as in the moon of Jupiter.
It was supposed to be, but whoever pressed it read it as "10" rather than "Io" and thus it has been "10" since, albeit accidentally!
I'm 31 now and I only got into electronic music when I was 24. I was clueless, until my first rave and what comes with it I could not imagine what people would find appealing in this kind of music. Now, when I listen to classics like this, I tend to think that if there was one experience I could share with all the people I know that just don't get it, it would be tripping balls on ecstasy raving to this track. There's so much elegance, intelligence, layered abstraction in the sound and title and yet it's so primal and tribal; it's simply an all-encompassing masterpiece that makes you reflect on the themes and schemes of the universe.
Otherwise I so wish I had been a young adult in the early nineties.
I was born in 1970 and wouldn't swap having my 20s in 90s for any other period that's for sure!
im 19 and im sad for all ppl that will never understand this
I will be honest with you, in the uk music & football was mostly all we had really growing up, fashions & fads came and went. So working all week at a piss poor job for piss poor money made us appreciate our Saturday nights out with friends all together because it's all we had to look forward to. And being at a rave with like minded people who you didn't know but were your best mate that night and all there for the same thing was magical truly magical looking back now im older. Great days to have lived through the 80s & 90s I had the time of my life. And this track sums it all up for me.
31 here as well. I discovered MTV's AMP back when it was on and i fell in love with this type of music ever since. But same feels over wishing to be growing up a bit older in the 90's to enjoy proper raves.
tonajki hate to rub it in bro but I was in my very early 20's when this happened! Fucking amazing times, wouldn't swap it for the world.
Aus einer Zeit als Tracks noch kleine Geschichten erzählten.
Had this track on tape, for long, but first time it hit me, was in Borealis 97/98, in Montpellier, France, played by the master, Laurent Garnier, himself, and then, the dancefloor went absolutely mad😎😎😎!
IM JUST TURNED 64 AN THIS CHOON IS BANGIN GOD THE GOOD OLD DAYS BRING THEM BACK NOT THIS NEW AGE C---P PEACE 2 U ALL
68 now how's the raving going
Hahaha 61 here, this lady likes too rave ;-)
When I get old and I'm losing my hair, any day from now, will I still be raving to these awesome tunes, popping pills and downing some shrooms
My favorite techno track of ALL TIME - gives me goosebumps every time 👏

Saw him do this live at Landing, LA, 1994. Miss those days.
The big Masterpiece for electronics concept for 1993
Für alle Liebhaber elektronischer Musik....sucht nicht weiter.....das ist euer Zuhause ❤
simply a killer tune
I remember hearing this for the first time about 7 years ago, just started listening to electronic music. Me and my friend sitting in my apartment high as fuck and just scrolling through youtube and listening to this unbeliavable music. At one point this starts, and we just went completely silent, total relax and chill of the intro, an absolute mindblowing sensation and journey through your innerself...
Nice! Good intro. 😊
This was a video on AMP if I'm not mistaken.. incredible.
94/95 ish, Vapourspace live in Belfast...Richie Hawtin/Plastikman too, and of course David Holmes....That was some night.......I think?!
Jealous..😊
Homer used to play Dublin a lot in the very early 90's. Heard him about 20 times in Sides DC. Absolutely loved when him, Stevie McKenna and Ian Mccreedy from the North used to come down to Dublin
