  • This is a step by step walkthrough for installing the short runner intake manifold on the VW 07k engine from Integrated Engineering. This is the first step in taking the 2.5 to stage 2. The next step is to flash the stage 2 tune onto the ECU. Installing the intake manifold might seem like a lot of work, but it is really not that bad when you get into it. The biggest pain is the bolt under runner 3. Patience is key! Stage 2 is so much fun on this 2010 Volkswagen Jetta SE!

after doing this for years, the best approach i've found for the 3rd runner bolt is to position yourself over the passenger fender, standing perpendicular to the motor. drop you right arm under the intake manifold and with your left hand, hand off the bolt to your right hand. seat the bolt, then with a small allen key, take your time and tighten to spec.
After a good heat cycle, go back and tighten all the mounting bolts, as they have a tendency to walk themselves out from time to time.

with regards to the breather hose for the brake booster, you can run an NPT fitting to off of one of the intake bungs and create a new line to the brake booster. i bought a second brake booster hose purely for the booster tip, and fashioned my own OEM looking hose from black braided hose.

I am planning on removing my factory power steering pump and replacing it with a volvo electric power steering pump (600 new, ≈150 used). It uses 80 amps so you can use a stock alternator on it (I’m planning on upgrading later however). You can then use the golfs accessory belt, and put the pump in a remote location (I plan on putting it where the cold air intake would go in the fender since I have a SRI). This would allow you to keep the hydro-power steering but free up the space for the manifold.
