That Rapture place is the main financial district, the City of London aka The Square Mile and actually one of the most crowded spots on Earth - just no one lives there as it's designed as a lean, mean money making machine for the world. Something like 560,000 work there by day, and only 3,000 gilded people get to live there. Simultaneously the oldest and newest part of the city, riddled with ancient alleyways (inc parts of the 2,000 year old Roman wall and ruins), pubs and 120 churches, 90 of them over 350 years old in between the skyscrapers -the only churches in the world that only open on weekdays and close on weekends. The place is a ghost town outside work hours.
Yea any weekday evening you’ll have bankers and insurance brokers stress-testing their expense accounts in the innumerable bars restaurants and nightclubs . Could be worth checking out Leadenhall Market, as featured in the Harry Potter films. It is at the back of Lloyd’s of London, so an epicentre of underwriters.
London is a magical city but hearing the sound of all the people in the background reminds why I left London for somewhere more relaxed. Still a fantastic place to visit and even live especially for younger folk but as I got older I wanted space and peace.
I know someone who grew up in The Tower, it was her childhood home! Her father was a serving Yoeman Warder ( don't call them beefeaters). When she had friends round after school, they had to be checked out by the military before they could visit! (Imagine that!. She also had to be in before The Ceremony of the Keys at 10pm, or give fair warning beforehand. One day she forgot and got challenged and had to wait for her dad to come and sort it out, He was furious! 😂 The bit that was empty was The City...nobody lives there, its just all banks and finance. London Bridge of old, was sold in 1960's to a guy in Arizona, I think. But the reason that the old bridge wasn't rebuilt, was because it was difficult for boats to go under it, and that caused massive problems at the time. Plus the fact that the old bridge was the only bridge that was over the Thames in that area. It was incredibly busy and had houses and shops all along it. It took ages to actually get over the bridge and it was dangerous, full of pickpockets and theives.
There's something very laid back about you two that is relaxing to watch! I hope you enjoyed your visit and pay us another visit sometime in the future.
Great vlog and a good reminder for me to appreciate London more. My walk to work takes me past Buckingham Palace, through Trafalgar Square and past the National Gallery, then up to Covent Garden as that is where my office is. It is a great location to work and your vlog made me appreciate how lucky I am, thanks!
My walk to work used to take me past St Pauls, down Ludgate Hill and along Fleet Street, to my office next to Dr Johnson's house in Gough Sq. I used to get heart palpitations doing it. I miss London so much.
when i was ten we used to go on our bikes to buck palace and climb into the fountains outside there was always a bit of change enough to buy some sweets 1955.
My apologies in advance if I sound like a condescending old English snob/xenophobe but it was so refreshing to hear an American visitor referring to TraFALgar Square instead of the occasional TraffleGAH which we hear! A delightful impression of first visit to London.

When you were pointing out London Bridge (while walking over Southwark Bridge) - 'fraid that wasn't London Bridge - it was just the rail bridge that runs into Cannon Street Station. London Bridge is the other side of that rail bridge. You didn't miss much though - the actual London Bridge is quite a boring 1970s road bridge and the previous one we sold to Lake Havasu is prettier. BTW - that wasn't the Imperial War Museum you pointed out in the last video. That museum is a mile or so away from Parliament Square, in Lambeth, south of the river, but DEFINITELY worth a visit.
Cannon Street station was so quiet because it's in London's central business district? The place is basically empty on the weekends. Most of the sandwich shops, dry cleaners etc. don't bother to open? The whole place is solely about makin' money, Monday to Friday 😁
Guy Fawkes was imprisoned in the Tower of London after his attempt to blow up the houses of parliament. He was tourtured In the Tower before being dragged to the old palace at Westminster to be hung drawn and quartered. Guy Fawkes was caught red handed on November 5th about to blow up the houses of parliament with Barrels of gunpowder stored under Parliament ( The Gunpowder Plot ) This is where Bonfire Night in England originates from. And after that bit of gruesome and useless information LOL, that you probably already knew about ... I'm very surprised you were asked not to film the Beefeater tour, there're dozens of them on CZcams, the most popular are by a Beefeater called Bill Callaghan, his tours are educational and hilarious. Most of them have views in the hundreds of thousands, the highest has over 2 million.
Anne Boleyn was beheaded by a french swordsman especialy brought in she was the only one of Henrys wives who did not face the Axe.Her Tudor style house was built solely for her but the only time she used it was whilst waiting to meet her Fate!! It is now the home of the Constable of the Tower, The Tower is a Village in its own right all that work there live there, It has its own Church, Doctor, & Pub !!
There is a nicer London Bridge in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. It was originally built in the 1830s and spanned the River Thames in London. But in 1968, the bridge was purchased from the City of London by Robert P. McCulloch and moved to Arizona.

The Stuarts also used new Palace at Greenwich then after that they all moved West to Kew and Buckingham Palace etc. Think Royal Residence at the Tower must have been before then? am interested now.

BUT the last Monarch to actually LIVE there was HenryVII ( cheated via Google !). pre 1500AD. next time come Greenwich way. am biased but it’s beautful. perfect place to stay to visit London. getting the river taxi each morning beats the train or tube 😎

Apologies if my question hinted at any negativity! You saw the Tower of London, the changing of the guard, Buckingham Palace which you deffo don't have in Portland! I don't think there is anywhere like London, but Paris is close in history and architecture.

City of London is also a separate entity,own police own laws. You need to look into the city of London as its a mad Banking mini country.

London really is a week long visit if you want to take in the historical sites, probably 2 weeks if you include cultural.
Look at historic drawings of the old London Bridge. It was packed full of shops and houses, like any street in London at the time.
Big Ben is the bell the tower is The Elizabeth Tower

The round building across the Thames from Tower of London is City Hall. It’s on the south side of the river.
Yes, it's still City Hall even if it's no longer City Hall. Maybe one day it will get new tenants who'll change its name to their company name.

The Governor of The Tower of London lives in The Queen’s House, during WW2 Rudolf Hess was held here after his capture in Scotland.

Not quite the original, the original collapsed into the Thames eventually and was demolished , so they built a new one but without buildings on it...
