- This week we get to test the 2024 Subaru WRX with the 6 speed manual transmission.
The manual version of the WRX is the only way to go the CVT would just be too boring. We got to take a look at it in the Iconic subaru blue colour.
This week we also include my wifes thoughts on this car as she is not a big car person it might be interesting to hear things from an outsiders prospective. I really like the WRX it has just enough power to have fun but at the same time not enough to get in that much trouble

This is a 2023. The 2024 is not out yet. Expected to get here in Canada first quarter of 2024.
"the all wheel drive trim"
OK I'm leaving.....
This is a 2023...
I just bought the exact same car, I'm up to about 2000Km now.
First impressions:
great visibility and driving position
Very smooth damped clutch engagement. Very easy to drive smooth. Easy to match revs. Great commuter
Shifter is a bit notchy, can be stubborn going into first
Fast but not edgy, not super exciting. Actually a nice balance for a daily driver.
Brakes not great. Strong enough but squishy. Would prefer sportier brakes. Wish I had the Brembos
Ride is perfect. Firm and corners level but not rough
Handling is kinda weird. Feels like it "pivots" rather than turning in. Maybe that's a Subaru thing
Steering is overboosted and super numb. Accurate but no feel
6th gear is too short. Would have liked a taller overdrive for the highway.
Harmon Kardon stereo is just "ok" Not bad but not great
Heated seats get hot enough to burn your ass. Awesome
Big center screen becomes invisible in sunlight
Controls and switches have a quality feel
A bit noisy, part of the character I guess
Could use another 50hp and another 500rpm of over-rev. Smacks the rev limiter too soon at 6kRPM
To my delight, it's highly tuneable. Immense potential for not a lot of dough.
Hated the cladding at first but it has grown on me. It's more suited to bad roads and I'm not sweating about chipping it up
My first "mod" was the F1 style lower brake light. Really improves the look for like 60 bucks. Breaks up that big black diaper on the back. Easy installation.
small nuisance: Not enough room in that cubby ahead of the shifter for a larger smartphone. Needs to be like 3cm deeper.
Tune it!
You're review is 100% spot on.
To fix the steering/handling try getting a cusco front strut tower bar. It's the lowest price on the market and it improves the stiffness and balance of the car. The STI transmission mount or the N1 for 100$ plus a shift stop mount should help as well. The next mods I'll get are front and rear sway bars to stiffen the handling even more.
To help brakes, I would suggest EBC front brake pad change. Although the Red stuff squeals a lot, they really improve the brake pedal feel and stopping power is increased. I'll be getting new rotors soon when they become available.
My biggest complaint of the car is the infotainment system because its impracticable. Subaru needs to find a better balance between buttons/switches vs everything being a menu on the infotainment screen. For example, the heated seat is a menu on the infotainment screen and not a physical button. But the biggest pain is the windshield defroster.
Anyways, this complaint is a small one, when compared to how much I love driving this car. This car is super practical, fun, tuneable, AWD, 4 door, and sporty daily driver. There's no other car on the market that fits this segment at a low to mid 30k price point.
If you want a sporty, fun manual with all wheel drive for low to mid 30k's, this is really the only option. Living in New England, I've had four of them, staring with the original 2002 bug eye--all, brand new. If you put a set of winter tires on it, it will smooth out the ride a little. I find the suspension totally fine for daily driving, but if I had your bumpy roads, I might look for something else.
If this was available as a WAGON I would buy one in a heartbeat.
They are in New Zealand lol
@@nashking817can you not import them?
They just need a manual in the outback wilderness
Mexico is getting the wagon but not USA 😢
Excellent review. Appreciate the Canadian perspective. Your wife adds another dimension, really appreciate it! More needed. Btw, isn’t the “Z” a rear wheel drive car? As for manual, with the exception of the truck I’m currently driving, it’s all I’ve ever driven. All the comments about traffic problems etc. with a manual are lame. Driving a manual in traffic is benign: you just do it without thought. Driver engagement: (DCT has its merits) but nothing beats the connection of driving with a manual - miss it so much.
Thanks for checking it out! I have not driven a manual car in a while I have another one coming up in 2 weeks and I can't wait to get back to it!
Having a '23 Sport and knowing what the '22 looks like, is there any major difference for the new '24 model ? I know this is the same generation with the VB, but I feel like I'm looking at the same model
BTW, love the shirt 🏎
The only thing they really added for 24 is they put the Eyesight tech in manual Sport-Tech now and they will eventually add a TR trim that will have some performance upgrades. Thanks I love F1!
My dream car to buy 🙏
is this the same trim level as tr? Or is this tr but the sporttech trim for 2024?
Hey man just wanted to send positive energy to you! A lot of unnecessary negative comments from people who act like they’ve never made a mistake. Ignore them, you’re doing a lot of us a favor by taking time from your life to give us a look into what it’s like owning the car. Thanks man! Quick question tho, is that “knocking” sound on a cold start normal? I really thought it was engine knock but seems like to be a regular thing
Thanks!! I noticed it as well but it seems louder on the video to me it seems like it might be coming from the exhaust it seemed like a normal sound in person.
How wide is it from outer ends of mirrors
the screen console thing hurts the soul
Are you able to change the brightness on the media system or like anything? It looks bright at night
There is a brightness wheel down by the trunk button. It looks like he has it full brightness.
You can lower it but I like to be blinded by it!
That's not a 2024 because they aren't even close to coming to North America yet. 2024s will get here in late winter/early spring 2024.
Best Subaru vehicle to date and the only Subaru worth buying.......
Only driven one other Subaru this year so far the WRX is number 1!
It serves its purpose for the category it was intended for. I have 3 Subies; 1 is a Forester. Your argument makes 0 sense and I have 2 wrx as well!
@@Vecc-tq3fb Subaru isn't even a top 3 carmarker in Japan. Toyota and Honda even Nissan and Mazda are better vehicles.......
@@crow_2k11beatsbydre8 yet.... you're on a Subaru review here commenting for what reason? Why are you even watching the video if they suck? Go buy the 4 you mentioned; and have a good life!
Why doesn't this have eyesight? The 2024 models are equipped with eyesight on the 6mt
You might have titled the video incorrectly
This is a 2023, and there is built in navigation. Very top left icon, says maps...
Edit: the newer software update will fix your wifes complaint about the heated seat, more proof this is a 2023 (and an early 2023 model)
AWD trim??????? all subarus except for the BRZ have been AWD forever
Yes, to more wife material
Thanks for letting me know! She will be happy to hear!
@@technicallycars it’s a great perspective
I always ask my friends who are either car people or not, their opinions on my cars! Always nice to know their viewpoints!
That is NOT loud 😂
No kidding!!!! How soft is this kid?? That's max 70db cops would be like was that a bee 🐝
His daily driver must be an EV! If he thinks the WRX stock is loud it’s literally quiet ! lol
How can you say thats loud or sounds good in any way!?! Uuuugghhh When subaru decided to go equal length they lost 70% of their fanbase. The plastic fender.. YUK. the only nice things are the colour and hood scoop. The motor is no longer a hype because the sound ruined it. Yes you can go unequal length but you young kids just don't understand the Subaru rumble is heritage. I would swap for an oldie Subaru ANY day. Even half the price suby.. this offends me
They forgot to paint half of your car
LOL; no kidding?? If you do the fender kits and the bumper by JDM; car actually looks nice. Still have to paint match the rocker spoiler. Your looking at 3000 us for the mentioned parts and probably 500 bucks to paint match the rockers. That's alot of dough to spend on a new car. But if I do get one; it goes straight from the dealer to the body shop; cause it looks sweet when they're done!
@@Vecc-tq3fb never ever spend a dime on a wrx. thank me later. just a get a sti.
The most annoying video come to find out it’s a 2023 wtf
