  • There are many dangerous misconceptions about the relationship between skin cancer and how it affects darker skin. In this video, we aim to educate people of colour on the dangers of skin cancer, as well as address the systemic racism that is within the field of dermatology. There is an obvious lack of representation of darker skin tones (types IV-VI) in medical textbooks and this video aims to address these issues. The video then explains the ABCDE method of diagnosing melanomas and how this may be harder to diagnose on darker skin tones. The video ends off explaining preventative measures as well as self-advocacy advice to aid in reducing the risks of melanoma.

THANK YOU! MY MOTHER PASSED AWAY TOO SOON BEING DIAGNOSED LATE!! I'M SO ANGRY!! I'M CRYING still mourning my Mum and she passed in 2018. I'll never forgot an Oncologist telling her that it's not common in African Canadian patients (my family is Jamaican) and that's just BS! I need to work with you please because I want to create a non profit about this! i'm in Toronto, Canada.

Sun shines all yr round where I live and I have never heard of anyone developing skin cancer. Never. Maybe it's because most of us are black. Oh well.

Exactly. I wonder what the percentage of Africans develop skin cancer since the continent is closer to the equator. While that it isn't rare, but our skin was made for the sun.

Love this! Studying Med in Australia and I really hope that in the future there is more representation of the black community in these textbooks, because the way diseases look on our skin can be quite different. Hopefully by the time I am a doctor change would have occurred.

you'd make a good doctor, I don't trust most doctors these days especially white doctors and some Asians because I have caught a few of them out on a lie, I did some onto It research on the medication these doctors prescribe me with and due to many peoples comment, the pills doctors prescribe me with Is Statins, Statins causes memory lost and shaking from the hands. there were other meds that causes bad side effects.
I have a gut feeling a lot of doctors these days are big Pharma Muppets
