Bharathi Bhaskar was incredible. It was like watching an unstoppable T20 double century knock. The way she laid to waste opponent arguments and not getting personal is an art form. It was sad that some of the debaters turned this into a political platform but Mrs Bhasker, kodu pottu adhu mela road pottuttaanga.

My one doubt is what will all these stalwarts do with the ponnadai .
They must be having hundreds at home .
Why don't we stop this habit of ponnadai ?
It is neither a saree
Nor a towel
Nor a dhoti
Nor can we make blouses out of it .
It is a waste cloth which cannot be used as a waste cloth also (to mop the house or something )
Time we changed some of these habits and just get on with the job .
In these days of eco concerns this ponnadai is another garbage which is going to occupy the house forever .
True. My grandfather was a great Carnatic musician. He had so many suitcases full of shawls. We grand daughters picked a few and used it for salwars !!
Don't Worry, Sivaraman sir is an expert in Converting All the Jarigai Ponnadais into Jibbas, Mridangam Glapes etc. Off late UKS sir has stopped draping costumes with Normal clothes. And he is in Direct Competition with late Sri Kunnakudi and more with Ananth Vaidyanathan of Super Singer fame..😂🤣😀🤔
To add to my earlier comment, the vaggeyakaras were all immersed in music and the nada form of the divine itself was used by them for their devotion. But, a concert held in a hall is patronized by connoisseurs of music and musical excellence is what they want from a concert. If it is soul stirring, it is an added bonanza. Very few like MSS could truly bring out the bhakti bhava in the compositions of vaggeyakaras straddling both aspects, living the life of a grhastha-ascetic(?), donating most of her earnings to causes dear to her. Another great stalwart Shri KJY concentrated on both but one was supreme at carnatic concerts and the other at his temple and ayyappa season concerts. His guru Chembai is known to have passed into the divine realm after a concert prior to which he prayed at the local temple asking for him to be released from mortal bondage.

sangeeta jnanamu bhakti vina sanmargamu kalade -Saint Tyagaraja. Post Purandara dasa and the trinity, Carnatic music compositions are 99% bhakti. But it is also true that the musicians themselves are driven by fame and esthetic expression of the art form.
When u r singing bhakti song, devotion is must. All songs may not be devotional. But singing devotional songs without bhakti is fruitless song as they have been composed by saints for God. Singing songs composed by saints and saying bhakti is not required for song is against the sentiment of song or raag.

Obviously, it is very glaring and Schemed as he almost finished his opening talk, Krishnamurthy, hurried to him to remind that he Ommitted Subhashree from the key note address, Poor man was over heard in the powerful mike🤣😅.. All'these, discards, unpleasant experience May be due to the Inglourious, Disgraceful Fall out of Subhashree from Jaya TV's "Margazhi Maha Uthsavam" that was organised and aired for more than a decade, due to Irregularities, Controversies in Administration, Organisation and Financial related issues and she was Ousted and thrown out of the program as the Chief producer, Organiser and Convenor.

Lord has created everything including bhakti music.In lords bhakti there is avery rasa ...maadurya vaatsalya saakhya daaysa saanta ,,, lords one small energy/art is music.. bhakti is supremely powerful , even it attracts all powerful supreme ,. So. music is great only in the service of lord otherwise the music that is not in the service is just a marana naaadam or frogs croaking inviting death of snake
Bharathi Baskaran is obviously a talented and charismatic speaker and performer! But her arguments are ridiculously weak and almost laughable. It's all performance and bluster.
- "Why kitchen adai and idly is not art?" Seriously?!! This is the argument? Of course culinary delights are also part of south indian identity
- Her Bismillah Khan's comment example about Ganges doesn't really illustrate her point. Khan sahib was talking about iyarkai (the nature, the beauty of the land) NOTHING to do with bhakti esp since he wasn't talking about religion at all.
- The difference between idly/adai and carnatic music is not bhakti LOL! It is the form. The better example is the difference between the audience attendance for nama sankirtanam (strictly about bhakti) and a traditional standard carnatic concert
- The rest of her arguments are just mocking Subhasree's manner of speaking. Sure it's funny/hopefully in good fun! But not really well thought through.
- Her whole point about "thiruppavai recitation events" vs "thiruppavai singing events" demonstrates the opposite of her position.
But respect to Baskaran ma'am!
