- The Edifier MR4 Studio Monitors are a budget set of near field studio monitors. They replaced my Edifier R1700BTs speakers I had previously, and have become a big piece of my 2022 desk setup. They don't have all the bells and whistles some other bookshelf speakers have like Bluetooth or a remote control, but can they compete in sound and other functionality? Watch for more.

I use these for listening to music, watching yt and play PS5, i really like them, both how they look and sound.
How do you have them connected to your ps5?
@@paulsamuel3226 i dont, i have them plugged in to my monitor
@@ludvigodling9947 ah ok so regardless of which input you change your monitor the speakers remain connected right
@@paulsamuel3226 well i just used the RCA to 3.5 mm jack (comes with the speakers). I plugged the RCA to the speakers then the 3.5 mm jack to my gaming monitor and it works great, then you need to change some audio settings on the PS5, its simple but i can help you if you want.
@@ludvigodling9947 hey no sweat brother simple stuff to look through, my psn is pforpol drop me a req :)
If you use foam mounts or some sort of Iso stand you can get more energy in the low end out of any monitor.
this is a great to know! I read a review of these monitors that mentioned low end is not so great. So your suggestion should help, many thanks!
I couldn’t agree more. Color may seem like a simple big decision factor, but it really is. Lately I have been trying to buy a new car and I have been very particular about it being black this time around. And I do believe depending on what shade of color you surround yourself with that will also greatly impact your space and your energy. I like these speakers a lot. I just might get them. But I will probably get the black ones. Thx.
The volume knob was indeed what I was curious about. Thanks for the video!
These look pretty nice for working with audio. I've been in a smaller space for the past year and had to sell my JBL monitors and have been using studio headphones, which have been good for mixing work and really focused critical listening, but do get uncomfortable after extended usage.
This is an awesome review. I was on the fence about getting this for my studio set up and the Amzin reviews were not very convincing but this review definitely helped me to make a clear decision. Thank you again!
Did you buy it?
These speakers are NOT for anyone looking for whatever but recorded sound. I hate the word "designed for" but there is a big difference between monitor speakers and others.
Monitor speakers are really designed to reproduce the original sound as objective as possible. Their point by design is fidelity. Hear exactly what has been recorded.
That's why if you're going to judge them, you can do it only against other MONITOR speakers.
Not talking to you, Kyle. Just explaining things.
wait so what doesnt clasify as recorded sound?
@@theodtrt
Recorded sound. Original sound.
I was thinking about getting these because my desk is small and i dont need those big speakers to clutter my space. great video
I clicked on this for the reassurance that these were good speakers, but now I feel like I have a pretty solid grasp on Mac users and what makes them tick. Fantastic video! =)
basically designed for unique melody lul, 100% synergy
I stumbled across your channel and liked the content and the way you present the information. As a result I have subscribed. I wish you all the best and look forward to your channel growing, peace.
And I do absolutely agree that the headphone jack behind the Mac mini is such a pain in the ass to deal with lol smh 🤦🏻♂️
You can get a subwoofer with these speakers too! But it cost alot more ! I am considering it.
How do they sound with a subwoofer?
Is this audio monitor good enough for music production? Record bass guitar and other instruments?
Im testing these now, they are good value for money only really falling short in the clarity department for dialogue in movies with a lot of ambient sounds going on, then they tend to loose seperation and squash it all together making sounds that shouldn't be loud really noticeable. They are certainly better than most sound bars which have simply abysmal clarity usually and that white minimal look makes them pretty well the only option in the price range to suit your basic white modern apartment nowadays. If they only were a bit more powerful with a bit less distortion for a bit more money and took off the tacky name tag on the front they would make everything else even close to the price irrelevent but for pc use at 1 meter away there is a LOT worse on the market.
Что можно еще похожее подобрать? Не худшее не лучшее
I have a pair of TEAC "bookshelf" speakers. I really like them but they would be SO much better with a headphone jack and the volume/power controls in the front.
Hey Kyle, thanks for the video! May I ask how you connect the speakers to your Mac mini? What cable did you use? I am not 100% sure what is needed to connect the Mac mini to speakers. Thanks!
Great studio monitors at a very affordable price! Since they're narrow field, don't forget to raise them up about 5" to get the bass effect if you're sitting down. Flat on a desktop the bass will stay below your ear level and go right by you! No BluTooth to lag your signal either!
You have amazing lighting.... golly
6:54 I saw Spiritbox there 😎🔥
Noticed it too, hell yeah
there are also meant to sit on a stand so the tweeters can be around a palm higher than your ear so you can hear the high freqs properly
Hello! Also useful for turntables? Thank you
Oh man, these look clean! Now I gotta dm you for some questions on these! 👀
Are these easy to connect to a PC? Trying to find some new speakers for watching CZcams, movies on my PC but I’m not really great on the technical side of things, thank you
Super easy, just use a 3.5mm speaker output on your PC
@@KyleErickson thank you very much very informative video keep it up
how is this thingy called behind you, the white panel with stuff on it ?

Are these better than the logitech z333? since the price is around the same
good speakers for ikea home designs
I thought this also, in a way these are too cheap - $109AUD or $74USD... Not elitist by any means but I'd rather spend a bit more and get something half-decent.
Got these hope they are good, $130 AUD amazon special, got them over almost buying cheap sanyun speakers.
They are horrible , crackling and no rear aux.
lol@@REPOMAN24722
@@REPOMAN24722the sanyun one or the mr4s?
What do you think of MR4's a year later? Centrecom have them at $109, I'm tempted...
I had so far * 3 years * the presonus eris 3.5
For using as playing guitar and some mixing with using behringer umc22 external sound card
Are those speakers capable for the same usage ?
hi Kyle, does the white color turns yellow over time?
How bass heavy are these? I will mostly watch talk shows, streams and stuff like that, will the speech sound too boomy to be clear?
I am looking for speakers for the same reason. Which ones did you get?
I ended up buying Presonus Eris 4.5 BT, because of the larger size, looks and bluetooth option, so I am not limited with the wire, if I decide to go with smaller speakers at some point for my PC and use these elsewhere with my phone or something. When I first got them they sounded a bit aggressive compared to my previous speakers. I think I was kind of disappointed with the quality, I though that I could hear more difference to my old cheap pc speakers, but the main difference was this aggressive sound. They were not boomy though. Speech is really clear and it just gets better if you increase the volume, unlike with my previous speakers. For music, I think I would want more color to the sound somehow. Although, I am really inexperienced with speakers, so I didn't even know what to look for. I am not usually impressed by the speakers anyway. One thing I noticed is that I started to like the sound of my sony headphones more when I got these speakers. I was thinkin that could it be because I don't like the sound of these speakers as much I did like the sound of my previous speakers. Although, I got a newer version of bluetooth at the same time, that may have also made some difference. I think the speakers look good and I think I am kind of happy with my purchase. No hissing sound or anything like that. I wish I could compare them with other speakers, because I think that is the only way I could hear the difference. I am thinking, if I should have gone with eris E5, because my speaker stands have space for them also. But they are more expensive and I like to have the power switch in the front of the speaker. I eventually skipped edifiers, because I got a feeling that it may be even more over hyped than presonus. I would like to try edifier bookshelf speakers and compare, if thouse would give the color I may miss with these ones. They may become more boomy though. @@fiudad
@@xvnbm on the matter of bluetooth, ill just add a simple bluetooth receiver for it
hi, i'm thinking of replacing two technics sb-ch515a speaker connected to a chinese mini amp of 50w per channel.
I was thinking of replacing them with these in order to have the empty desk by putting them on shelves on the sides of the monitor, the current ones are beasts and I can easily reproduce even 40hz thanks to their woofer so I'm curious to know if these here have a good acoustic performance maybe from 50hz up and especially if in studio mode the sound is flat. Thank you
My mr4 are cutting my sounds . When my bass is to loud why is it ??
Is this bluetooth capable?
Paint the speakers?
reincarnation of old sven speakers?
Using dac?
Can i connect them to interface audio? Have 2 jacks behind for monitors, but here i see jus RCA cables. Is there any small/white alternative to them? I would tove to put them into the interface to have all in one studio setup, thanks - great video, love it ;)
There are literally TRS balanced inputs on the back of them you can see in the video lol. The guy just doesn't have needed cables and audio card for that.
Will these plug into a HP Pavilion Desktop?
Direct connection to Mac Mini or via audio interface? Concidering these but I cannot be bothered getting an audio interface.
You can connect it both ways
These or the Presonus Eris 3.5 gen 2?
so which is better mr4 or r1700bts
Im having the same question. I currently have the R1700 but tempted to get the MR4s
@@francohic dont buy mr4 I had it and they are doing weird buzzing noise .
ok thanks @@kostek6536
Mr4 wins by a lot, I owned R1700bts before, Mr4 is on another level.
Excelent video,
Exactly what I needed to hear about those audio monitors.
Have you tried them via RCA vs TRS plugs? Noticed less hiss?
Thanks, your channel is awesomeeeee
I’ve just used the TRS input into the Mac, but there hasn’t been much noise at all with it!

I Will buy them 👍
@@KevinXolioHi. I just tested right now this Edifier MR4. Upon plugging to power outlet, when I put my ear directly to the tweeter, I noticed there's slight hissing on both tweeter especially when I put the volume knob in Max. I didn't connect any RCA or Aux cable yet. Do you think its normal or it's some factory defect? Thank you

hey - can i use them with amplifier?
Got one for 45 dollars brand new
Lucky. Just have to wait for 3 days
Are you happy with these?
Thanks for the great review. I want to buy it and I have a question about the sound card. Will there be any difference if these speakers are connected to an external sound card such as the Creative Sound BlasterX G6 or to the built-in sound card in a laptop? Usually a high-quality sound card is advised for speakers with an optical input, but they are not here. These speakers also have their own ADC-DAC. And I don't understand if I need an external DAC or a sound card for my laptop.
Haha, don't buy things like these
If you want a great DAC, use Apple 3.5 MM USB C dongle. If you don't like apple get Tempotec Sonata HDPro or Shanling UA1. But don't buy these so called soundcard
@@arghadeepmisra7865 That's just misinformation my dude.
@@OCX600RR Well I review audio products professionally. There's no need to buy sound cards in 2024
@@arghadeepmisra7865 Then you might want to do some research on the topic. It has made a tremendous difference on my end. This is coming from the best onboard sound available. The comparison is not even close.
@@OCX600RR If you want I can give you proof my friend. I do research on these topics, I reviewed almost 100+ dongle DACs and 50+ Source Gears.
I am sure that you found a very good difference, but chances are either the comparison was not optimal. I am sure you're right for your tests, but I have a very large sample size to back me up.
May i know what mouse are you using?
This or 1280db?
Edifier doesn't fall in the STUDIO MONITORS category they're just decent, over colored, consumer speakers
U just a hater
Don't care didn't ask
yep its just a good speaker...
If ur “studio monitor “ means completely flat frequency response and I can pretty sure there is literally no speaker in such price range can possibly provide, and if ur truly a sound engineer then you should know few decent way to calibrate to more ’trusty’ sound. At least mr4 provides a pretty decent hardware to begin with that no other product can give u in that price range ,and me personally don’t like using a total flat devise to monitor my work especially towards completing bc let’s be honest, how many flat studio devices u think the publics had? I heard to many mix that sounded fine on monitor and boomy as hell or shouty on standard air pods…..
so how high end monitors like genelec or neumann compared to this edifier in terms of sound quality?
sold!
Are those tweeters and drivers fragile? They dont provide any grills and I fear kids would pop em like bubbles.
Update:
Bought them, the woofer is of robust build but the silk dome tweeters are delicate, will have to keep em away from children.
Is there anyone here who use this monitors for recording electric guitar? I use amp sims for my guitar and i need a budget monitors like this. Thanks in advance ✌🏻
I bought these to replace Logitech z533s but they are nowhere near as good, loads of distortion for me when any sort of low frequency noise is present even at low volumes.
The volume the control knob was irritating to me as well, I loved the design and look as it went with all my other white stuff but I had to send them back
These really need a sub. What were you using to feed them? Also if you use foam stands or iso mounts you can get more bass out of them or any monitor. Ideally these should probably be crossed over at 60-80 hertz.
@@jelousjake3500 the Logitechs were £75 these are like £130 on Amazon
1/8th" headphone jack is not a good thing. All studio quality headphones have a 1/4" jack.
Hi! What mouse pad do you have?
currently I'm using an obitkey one
The Eris 3.5 are hot fucking garbage, they break after a year or so and repairing them cost more than the unit itself. this is in order now.
If you're trying to sell a speaker then why aren't you showing us the frequency response? It used to be that every single speaker would have it in every consumer would be knowledgeable enough to just look at it and at least get a bare minimum of what that thing will sound like. And now you're playing Fancy music and spitting dials and speaking in a soft voice when that is obviously completely and utterly irrelevant. Why don't you advertise your videos and tell people that the video that they're going to see is a complete and utter waste of time?
Clicked the Amazon link and it said “The Edifier MR4 speakers provide a frequency response of 60Hz-20KHz”
What Razer headphones are those?

wat
between the mr4 and Edifier R1280T wich are better?
Yes I wanna know the answer to this
@@Hyperactivs i have both and i prefer the mr4's, their clarity is just on another level. however you'll be missing out on the r1280t's bass, not that the mr4's lacking, it just doesn't have that same punch. i actually did a sound test and with the mr4's you can start hearing sound at 30hz, and the r1280t at around 40hz. and although the mr4's doesn't vibrate through your table the way r1280t does, it actually sounds fuller. let's just say if you're more into gaming, go for r1280t, and if you want a higher quality all around speakers, go for the mr4's. btw, after using for sometime the mr4's, i tried using again the r1280t's but everything sounds muffled/dull, even the bass!
