The kickflip into the weird gutter bank at 7:14 is probably my favorite trick in the video! nothing to flashy, a subtle display of skill and control that was defo one of the best looking tricks in the video!

I do not skate and never have but I’ve been watching Thrasher videos for years. I watch them for the artistic value. Even though I have no idea what these guys are even doing I am always blown away by their talent and creativity. Cinematography is great, love the feel and the skaters never disappoint.

Fuck yeah. Was wondering when this would come out. I was there when he was filming that back tail on that rugged six stair bank. I'm from Newcastle (the town where most of this was filmed) and I've never seen anyone skate these spots like Rowan does!
For real, that bank at the red 6 is rough as guts. I used to skate around civic a lot too. I’ve never seen anybody skate the fountain ledges and gap out down the stairs. That and I can’t believe we never thought to lift that drain cover up and use it as a kicker over the bar at the spot beneath civic tower! The gap to fs wallride and the hardflip were crazy.
@@numerum_bestia yeah man for sure, I don't think people understand how gnarly that bank is. I'm sure I've seen people skate the civic fountain ledges like that, can't remember if it was join the dots (wish I still had a copy of that) or something newer. I'm sure I've seen someone Ollie that rail from flat too never noticed the drain in front of it. Newy has some pretty rich skating history now that I think about it, haha.
YOOO I studied in Melbourne for a semester and I’ve skated a ton of these spots, I was pretty surprised that everything looked so familiar

I've watched this video now 3 times in a row.Loved Rowan's part,such a smooth part and interesting trick selection.I havent been on a skateboard in about 15-16 years but Rowan's part makes me want to get back on a skateboard.

@@blackseven4561 That's true.I still have nostalgia about the early to mid 2000's when i was skating.Even if i wasnt so good it was still fun times that i wish i could go back to.From the baggier pants to the VHS videos and magazines.Unfortunately 21 years ago,there wasnt any youtube and today any kid can just youtube trick tips.I dont think i would have been pro but i think i could at least be better because of all these youtube tutorials. My weight would definitely be an issue.I'd definitely need something like a Powell Flight deck.
@@Nekrocold I feel you. I started in '99 and even got 2 sponsors (well, actually one). But I only skated for about 2-3 years. Then everyone stopped. I was the only one to always have a Board and skate on my own occasionally. But I didn't develope anymore. Always regret that.
In 2019 I finally decided to start all over and force myself to learn new stuff. Though I lost a couple of tricks, I'm constantly learning new ones. It's hard at times, cause I'm still only skating by myself and we don't have any good spots here. BUT I'm having fun, so...
@@blackseven4561 I totally can relate to skating alone. In my teen years i found a rail at my school,spray painted it red in the garage and did so many boardslides on that thing in the back garden. My only regret is not skating in a group so i could learn and become better.Today's youth have it easier,cant land a tre flip just type how to do it on youtube,you even have skate lessons.I would totally have signed up for lessons if that existed 20 years ago.

Totally agree with you. Also I guess the fact that you can always film yourself nowadays or take photos so easily, has a huge impact on your motivation. Back in 2000 we were taking photos, then had to bring them to the store to develop them, and after 2 weeks and 15-20 Bucks (or Deutsche Mark) we got 'em back. Mostly you had 3-4 good photos, the rest was thumbs or tricks caught in the wrong moment. And then again you couldn't just watch any skatevideo you wanted. Whenever I got to see new footage I was so hyped! Today I don't even get to watch all of them, cause there are so many.

I grew up In Newy and have skated heaps of that amazing city. There are so many spots in this part that I have skated and wondered how could someone do something here that are out of the normal. You did exactly that. Love your style man.
Me and the boys would skate past that set at 6:25 back in the early 2000s and no-one was game to ollie it let alone session the bank beside it 😂 that thing is pure crust!

I appreciate the amount of digital content put out these days by companies. That being said, I sure as hell miss when you would see ads for a video coming soon, 6 months to a year away, get super hyped for it. And finally itd arrive. You'd either get the DVD for your birthday or Christmas, or just spend all the loot you had to cop it. Then that's ALL you'd wanna do, is watch that video over and over and over til it's engraved in the brain. The ten minute releases are fun, nice to watch at work or whatever. But the full lengths will always beat them. I hope to see some in the future..
